That sounds about right as about 4 out 5 people (80%) have had their personal information leaked to internet and dark web.

My Doctor, My bank, My Government (Local State and Federal), and Facebook, have all leaked my information.

I have had my Credit reports frozen for years. One good side to doing this is it eliminates or at least reduces the number of pre-approved credit offers your going to receive in the mail.

The biggest downside is to Get credit, change credit, open a bank account, or just about anything else that requires a credit check you will have to "Un-Freeze" at least one of your reports.

It’s 2.9 billion documents not individual accounts.

Some of the news outlets did not make that distinction, I guess.

Not really. If you use Experian it's a simple flick of a button. You don't lokc your card you lock credit checks.

On another note, I don't know how people survive waking up afraid and angry, usually about things that will never touch them. Trust me, we don't have to look for trouble, it chases us. Best savor quiet time,.... for the soul.

Took me nearly a week to get them to un-f* the "lock" I put on.  Can't remember the details as to why.  Something didn't match something, or something.  Another one of those things where you get punished for a mistake they made.

Wait!!

2.9 billion "records" including SSN means they have at least 11 documents per resident of the united states........or there are a lot more social security cards out there than residents.

The question is what kind of information was on the server?    Simple identifying documents or people's  entire "permanent record".

The numbers are looking strange here.

Do you actually think the government has accurate numbers on anything?

Have you seen the average government worker?

They can't even keep voter registrations accurate...

Yes I do.

as I always say,to know what's wrong, one first know whats right. This stuff is computerized dude.

People who are programmed to beleive the government can't do anything right,... then what is the answer? It's rather unfair to point out a problem without a solution. I just hear a lot of sniveling with no one presenting an answer......doing nothing is a LOT worse.

There seems to be a kind of clickbait/scam where someone gets as many data leaks as they can (not new ones, just old data breaches that everyone knows about), lumps them together to get a big number then issues a press release/puts up a web site saying they've got the biggest data leak ever. It's been happening for about the past year or so.
