Some say DX11 has nothing to do with the stutter. Yet when I run the DX9 version of the game I don’t experience the stutter. I’m curious what others are experiencing with this issue. Which version of the game do ya’ll run?

Vr players don't have a choice..we have to use dx11

I have been getting the same stutters when I play IL2 single player careers. I don’t do their multiplayer so I don’t know about that.
They started the same time the AH ones did so it’s leading to me to believe it’s either a windows update or a nvidia update.

Big thread on it here....

You may be on to something. I’m running Win 11 and a RTX 4070 with default settings. Tweaking the card made no difference.

HiTech said he has heard or observed other games suffering the same issue. A graphics card cache cleanup or something to that effect iirc. Alleviating the effect likely varies with hardware and settings. DX12 may not suffer the issue which would make it unlikely a fix for DX11 will be seen if inherent to that version.

Thanks, I found Hitech’s responses in the other thread. It seems best to run DX9 if you can.

has anyone tried with an AMD card?

My old Windows 10 system had the stutter with DX11 but not 9. When I built my new Windows 11 system last year I tried using DX11 and no stutters! Sadly about 2 months ago (not 100% sure on that timeline) the stutter returned and I had to go back to DX9. This time the stutter seemed different - previously it was random and seemed like something was making it happen but now it almost seemed to happen on a regular time frame. Yah I know that sounds crazy...

Yes, i think for most of us, it happens in 10 minute intervals.

I'm curious, has anyone noticed whether the plane has continued to move while the screen is frozen?

Yes I am pretty sure it does. You are not quite in the same place after the stutter but I haven’t filled it to prove it.
Reminds me of the book “Time Quake” by Vonnegut.

If it continues to move and accept control inputs that would suggest to me it's not network related. Maybe give it a good yank on the stick when it happens and see if your nose moved much when it resumes.

HT and I agree we’re convinced its Nvidia & DirectX related, wiyh something Nvidia recently implemented.
.
According to HT they’ve had this intermittent problem since the DX exe was put out, predating ISP upgrade. My driver updated at similar time to ISP upgrade.
I’ve read of other full screen games having similar issues. The common center point tends to be GPU and DX. Nvidia being the most common card used in gaming. I have yet to see anyone with AMD complaining.
I’ve been experimenting with Nvidia settings. I got it gone going off default settings. However, got it back through experimenting with a combo of settings. The difference now is its super quick, minimized from 2 seconds to 1/4-1/2 a second.
The point that I get reactions keeps me on the path of Nvidia & Dx 11.
About 2 months, give or take, is when the updated driver for my GPU came out. The problem with this concept is a player on an older system his driver hadn’t updated in quite a while.
Nailing it down seems to be extensive experimenting. With about 20 settings a combo igs a hard find.
I had one person still get it on DX 9 still get it, but not sure its the same exact issue.
For now, if you don’t use VR use DX 9.
The difference is posted on my AH Tech Hanger site.
I also added how to flush the DirectX Shader Cache on both Graphics and DX pages. I’ll also add how to use DX debugger.
Even that said. My next experiment would be to role back the driver and look for results.
But seriously, using DX9 exe should help.

Sorry to say its probably a HT problem. The guy is an amazing designer and visionary but he is way past his prime and probably needs an outside/3rd party to fix up the game.

Again, other games have similar problems, so that is not the issue.

Im sorry, ive played countless games on a 6-7 year old PC and i've never, *never* seen the issues AH had exist anywhere else. Im sorry, its just a delusion you want to believe to make you feel good. The game just needs a fresh set of eyes.

I just go off what I read on other game forums.
No doubt the game could use a polish. But also consider, HT is alone now, thinking the game would not last this long. Pyro has passed away. HT has gone through some intensive health issues, and other personal struggles.
You're not wrong.
