Title: Free lifetime National Parks Pass for Veterans.
Post by: Mayhem on September 09, 2024, 01:43:19 PM
PSA:

As of late 2022 Honorably Discharged Veterans qualify for a Free Lifetime National Park Pass that gets a vet and everyone in their car or up to 4 other people into any U.S. National Park.

There will be shipping and handling charges ($10).

I recently got mine for a trip to Mount Rainier national Park and the Olympic National park I took last Memorial day.

It does not cover other expenses and some parks require some sort of registration or wait list to get into the park.

As it should be..... with much much more.

Nothing for the illegals.... spend that on our Honored Vets!

Texas has some great benefits for vets. The Hazelwood Act in particular.

That is awesome.

I wish Texas had something at the State park level.

Texas Veterans dept has some other good programs though.  I could see them doing something similar.

All Texas vets should checkout the Texas Veterans Land Board stuff.  I got my land through them in a closed auction at what I believe substantially below market.
Also, for the auctions, those are defaulted properties, so you don't have to put any money down.  You just take over the payments and the interest rate was very low for unimproved land.  It's very difficult to get a commercial bank loan for unimproved land and the rate would normally be higher.  Since this was basically guaranteed by the State, the terms were very favorable.  There were two phases to the auction.  First auction is closed and only for vets.  If the property doesn't sell then, the next auction is open to the general population.  The closed auction is where you would get your best deal.  And you are helping the VLB.  These are defaults so you are getting them back off their books and the money from the sell funds loans to other vets.

When you pay off one loan, you are free to bid again on other properties.  There is no limit, just one outstanding loan at a time.

[Edit]  Sorry, my info may have been out of date.  https://tpwd.texas.gov/newsmedia/releases/?req=20230906b (https://tpwd.texas.gov/newsmedia/releases/?req=20230906b)

Awesome.

Now, about that fishing license...

I'm lobbying for Jury Duty being voluntary for vets.

You could if you want, but for vets it should be volunteer only.

Last trial I sat on shouldn't have gone to court. The judge asked for comments after. I told him it was a waste of everyone's time and shouldn't have gone to court. He said justice is never a waste of time. I haven't been picked since.  :D

I'll let you decide. A guy was charged with theft. He lived in a mobile home park that had a section for people to keep their boats. He noticed a boat that had been there a long time and had some faded unreadable sign stuck on. He asked the park management if he could take the wench off the trailer since it appeared the boat was abandoned. The person he spoke with didn't know. He took it. Turns out the boat belonged to a cop. They prosecuted. We found him not guilty.

I wouldn't have taken it without explicit permission but....

The last time I had to show for Jury Duty it was for a Pedo.  Unfortunately I had surgery the previous day and with the meds, I had to bow out.  Well, that and I was planning on bringing a pitch fork.

As for NPS... can't stand'em.  Any of them.  And a wait-list seems to imply lots of people.... gross.

Another reason I need to go to the DMV to fix the veteran status on my license.
