Title: Comeback Consideration
Post by: SlipKnt on September 17, 2024, 02:06:56 PM
Been doing a lot of flying in DCS and in an active MILSIM Harrier squadron there.

However, I am missing AH3 and the MA gameplay.

Thinking I may come back for MA and FSO again.

Just wanted to take a peek in here and see how everyone has been doing.

I live in the central US timezone.  It can be a bit boring in the afternoon, but the gameplay picks up around 4 my time.  If you like taking bases, the afternoon can get fun if you communicate and get your countrymates involved, but don't expect any big furballs during that time.

Glad to hear you considering coming back. Definately worth 15 a month to see if you can enjoy your gaming time here.  I'm still here after 25 years if that means anything.

It’s good to see familiar faces.

Something I’ve been looking into is creating a series of “how to” tutorials for AH3.

What I have noticed since stepping away is a lack of YouTube type tutorials for this relevant online game.  AH3 is on the easier side of combat sims out there but admittedly still a big learning curve.

I know people looking in from outside would look into AH3 and see a lack of content and shy away.  Where DCS, has a ton of content but the initial investment is a reach.

If people only knew just how easy it is to learn with a minor investment, could revive gameplay and a newer audience.

If I do go down this path, I will be looking for “costars” to help me with content.  Costars would entail me flying along with different squadrons doing different things like Monday Night Madness, Special Events, FSO, and main arena debachery.

If this sounds interesting to you, reach out.

Step 1 is setting up an account again.  I’ll be logging on tonight.  I have to figure out a best practice for GVing in VR though.  Haha!  My ground game came apart!!!

Dude, there is a scenario coming up Oct 26.

Scenarios are the greatest online combat flying in existence.

Come on in for the glory of an epic battle.  :aok

Spits, Typhoons, Mustangs, Mossies vs. 190's and 109's in coastal France, in preparation for D-Day.

We will be opening registration and posting the writeup soon.

I’m going to get my account set back up tonight.  I can’t commit this far in advance, however, if y’all allow walk on, I’ll do my best to show up and fill whatever slot is needed.

I have to rebuild all of my profiles for each plane again.  At best I’m just a warm body to shoot down a lot.  Hahaha.

It’s good to see all of yall.  I finally got on last night and had a blast.  I forgot a lot.  Mapping my new Virpil controls and setting up voice attack right now.

Was a great night last night and the time flew by.

Definitely not a bad idea. I seem to remember (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) it took me like 20 minutes to figure out how to get on a runway and, when I did, spawned in a hangar and taxied out to the runway.

Art? I’d consider more like patience. I’ve owned three planes with the little wheel where it belongs. Art is kissing it down and balancing it on one main in a crosswind.

Nice rig!

Needs more switches.

Don't let Iron see that.  He'll sprout wood.  ;)

My latest button box. 3 position switches, 8 each. The back 4 are latched and the front return to center. Long way to go to catch up with Mayhem.

Why? He doesn't even have a mouse pad or a dot-matrix printer. Pretty amateurish if I do say so.

My Deltasim mod for my Warthog throttle finally gave up the ghost so I put the miserable original ministick back on and ordered a Virpil throttle. They just went on sale. Will be here Friday.

Voice Attack only 10 bucks but I'd pay 50 if that's what it cost.

Yeah Voiceattack is great. Totally worth $10. I'd use it even without VR. It's so nice to be able to take weird 2 or 3 key binds and tie them to an easy voice line.

Same.  It's great.  Seems more games out to just build that in like VOIP.

Shown are the regular length Monster Tech Mounts.

Not Shown
My 3 Axis Trim Controller
I upgraded my monitors from Dell U2412M 24" 1920x1200 IPS to MSI G274QPF 27" 1440 Rapid IPS Monitors (I plan on writing a review-Will put in Hardware Forum)
I have a Large Monstertech Desk mount that is going in the middle that will hold my F18 UFC and 3 TM Cougar MFDs and I plan on putting my Warbrd Base/CM2 Grip to the middle.

I'm getting ....
one of the Monstertech Chairs (Probably the MFC-5 Night Falcon in Cordura as soon as my Wife's union gets a contract)
the Virpil VPC TCS plus Base with VPC AH-64 Collective Grip
I plan on adding one or two Virpil VPC Control Panels (#2 and #3 have #1-shown)
Keeping my trim controller, CM3 Throttle on the left with Panel #3
Putting Panel #1 with Panel #2 on the right and moving my CH throttle quadrant with mounting bar to the right.

Eventually I will upgrade my Stick to the new Warbrd-D base and Maybe the FLNKR Grip. If I do, I will give my Current Virpil stick to my Kid who inherited all my old CH gear.

I have my old Xeon Workstation with Triple monitors on the opposite side of the room.

And I just hijacked Slipknot's thread.
Sorry :(

My first flight up I managed 2 kills in my coveted Hellcat.  I died a bunch trying to get a M3 in but it was fun.  I see some things never change.  Like Tyfoo doesn’t miss often!  🤡

Getting everything mapped and committed to memory is my biggest hurdle.

I was looking for ya earlier.  Can’t wait to see you online.  Logan is another great dude.

My long game is piecing G3-MF back together and perhaps register for FSO again.  The concept of G3-MF was to act as a Mercenary Force.  No one specialty but a diverse group of pilots that in theory, goes to the side with the least amount of players at the point of login and work toward taking bases.

That sounds great. I am currently CO of the Sic Puppies MWK, we currently have 31 members. Our group has a broad range of skills, from great fighter pilots (not me), Bomber crews, and GV'ers. More than anything, we all have fun, and enjoy our time together as a group.

Looking forward to seeing you again. Hope the family is doing well. Are you a grandpa yet?? :)

Not yet.  Oldest just got out of the Marine Corps (4th Generation Marine).  Youngest is a Junior in college.  Started off at Temple in Philly.  Then switched to Slippery Rock U.  Now taking home classes and trying to start his business as a Physical Trainer / Nutritionist as well as looking at Police Academy or Fire Academy.  I don't think he will EVER know what he wants to do when he grows up.  My oldest starts diesel mechanical school in November.  For now, both are single trying to get their lives in order then (hopefully) they find "the right one" and start families of their own.  Its crazy to think when I started playing AH, the youngest was still getting diaper changes between my base taking exploits.  Now, they are old enough to be changing diapers.  LOL

I'll come slum around with y'all.  Sick Puppies have always had a nice assortment of talent.  I am STILL working out the buttonology and probably will be for a while.  Probably in my best interest to either run troops or try to CAP.  I have some slick ideas for setting up voice attack for bombing and calibrating.  Once I get my feet under me again, I'll probably start setting up MA missions to run.  We either take a base or we don't but we can hopefully start gaining a following running missions.  I'll likely move country to country (in the beginning) to say hey to everyone and hopefully have fun missions to do in the MA.  I tried to do some gunnery the other night and am falling short because of VR.  I used to never miss in the CA or BB.  Used to be able to drop fields in minutes from ship guns.  Now I am lucky just to hit land.  LOL

I have a squadron training night in DCS tonight in the Harrier but will be online after training.  See ya in the cartoon skies, Brother.  I miss our late night talks, my friend.
