Simple question...well?
For those not familiar...it was a pure & simple dueling arena involving all 3 countries. ENY wasn't a factor. There was no land conquest involved; just dogfighting. No AI or air spawns...you had one 5k base to lift from.

100% remember this and loved it… it’s nice to get a map in the MA every once in a while where TT/Fighter Island is busy and all countries agree on not taking it. Having furball island back would be a nice place to run to when there’s nothing else
-
:aok I'd love to see it back!

100%
Just make a separate area in the current match play that allows for free fight. Like in the canyons or something. Or just make a 100 free fight fighter bowl with no bases and airspawns only all on one team.
I've made multiple threads on it alread.

What was the reason the old one was removed?
Didn't HT say population had evaporated?

I dont think there is enough air to air pilots left. GVers and win the war types out number "fighters" by quite a bit.

It was the water depth perception issue that stalled it for a lot of players at first. But then HTC decided to change it completely, and changed it into something very complex but at the same time removing free fight. The airspawn duels and AI fights are fun, but need an area for a free fight bowl where it isn't possible to be ganged or vulched.
The dueling aspect needs a lot of work. Unfortunately what the match play turned into was a way to complex for the time needed to make it fully work.

furball lake was a blast even when i crashed into the lake :bhead

That was a bit of a false positive. The numbers were dropping anyway in the background, and many of those players were older and/or only played AH (and only played it there). While AH3 was in beta it was clear they'd have to update their PCs and many didn't think it was worth it. Some Furball Lake squads left en masse. Quite a few did go over to the MA but the opportunities to improve your flying there are very thin nowadays.
Of course the old DA was a $ arena while the MPA is free. :old:

I forgot to add the fact that bringing back Furball Lake D A might be priced on two tiers:
1. Included in the monthly $14.95 subscription price
2. Be made available as a singular $ arena at $4.95 +/-
One problem with Furball Lake was the occasional beatdown of newbies by experienced pilots flying ENY rides. That might be curtailed by offereing what used to be the Mid War plane set, which many folks deemed to be a well balanced offering.

I'm no longer a Spring chicken myself old chap! :old:
Almost a decade ago. Felt sad when I heard about Rowdy1, Bentnail and Molerat's passing. Haven't seen Griff, Firebal1, Hlbly, Slimmer, Redbul1, endless others of the regulars since then. TA57x was in the MA a bit. Also good old Shakey61 and some of TA's other squaddies.

Yep, would love to see it return. I was very sad to see it go. For me, the Match Play Arena was a very disappointing replacement.
No need for an either/or situation, the Match Play arena could remain as it is now, as part of the free package, for those who like it.
The old DA could return as it was, as part of the $ package, for those who preferred it. I would use both.
I enjoyed the old DA so much I would be happy to pay extra for it, if that was required to get it back.

Just started to unwind the cords for my stick and throttle before but what is the point?

There may be "more" win the war/gvers but there are still plenty of fights to be had. A few Rooks squads do nothing but fight. It may look like they are after a base, but if its a bunch of ponies, its the chicken tail and they couldnt care less about a base take. The same goes for the BT's. See a bunch of YAKs, and it has pretty much nothing to do with a base take.
Fights are there, you just have to look for them more than you use to. Use to just fly to a front and you'd find a fight, now adays, not always, but they are still there.

I sit here and a 1/4 Century later after first turning this SIM on I have grown into some of the "Best Friend" type of fellow relationships with players who taught me what it is like to feel a few real G's in his kickass stunt plane...
Aces Hight for me was never just one of those games I would forget about.
Rob showed me how to take off and land his planes... Show me ANY OTEHR sim out there that guarantees the same sort of friendships for the players.
I have several friends that I've made over the past few decades.
As far as any other flight sim out there for me there is not yet one that even comes close to Acers High!

I wouldn’t call anything either one of those squads do as fighting. Running until it’s 4v1 or just running period is more appropriate.

Yup, just re-open A1, A2 & A3 as well is all that's needed. If you want to go crazy get rid of the score and the daft System kill messages too. Different environment entirely.
The densisty of the kind of fights-per-hour I liked was simply way higher at the furball lake. With the lower player numbers and specialised base-takers the MA is less appealing the ever. Wasting time chasing ghosts just disillusions you with the whole hobby. You'd only need one or two other Furbal lake players for a dozen fun fights a day. Way more than what is available right now IMHO*
*Possibly skewed a little by my EU Timezone

That's why I've always wanted furball lake to be a FFA with everyone on one side and air spawns. 1v1v1 is much better than 2v1. Or if 10 players, there is no ganging by teams.
-
I am sure everyone knows it, but there is a "Furball Lake" with 3 bases at 5k, air spawns to each base, and the center of the lake, in Match Play. Other options in the arena exist for other, skill sets.

Well, the furball lake is now AI Lake. Which is nice in it's own sense for practice, but its not suitable for PVP.
You can't go fight in the canyons any more with a bunch of people. Can't choose who to fight 1v1 if multiple people want to 1v1 at once. Can't choose starting alt, 2v2 and up doesn't work, the map breaks after taking off, ect.
So there's just nuances that need to be worked on to make it a better overall arena.

Wonder how deep the lake is. I have personally put more Ki-84s in there than were ever manufactured
