Whelp;, my pal's gone. Passed away last night, foot of the bed.
Laid her to rest down by the water.. good view; lotsa mice.
Gonna miss her; never thought I'd say it, but yah; I loved the foolish critter. Writing this is hard.
You guys knew more about the critter than anybody else. Cats arn't much of a topic of discussion down at the pool hall.
I guess one word can be found for what a cat can teach an old man..
Dignity.
Hairball; I'll miss yah. Best co-pilot a guy could ever hope for. <S!>

Sorry to hear of your cats passing, amazing how close we can get to an amimal. No, not you animal! get your arm off of me, you perv.
-
Im sorry to hear that hang.
i know how it feels to lose a friend.
its a funny thing the way cats grow on you.
they allways find a way into your heart.
-
Personally, I've never had a cat longer than 8 years, seems they always use up all 9 lives before their time, you're very fortunate to have him as long as you did. <S> Hairball...sorry to hear about your loss.
Anyone for a Volcano dive for this one? I always find the gather of many enemy over a designated location as a 'group hug' of sorts. :)
-
Geez, that sucks.
My roommates cat lies in the hall asleep for 20 hours a day, only getting up to eat, crap, and take another nap. Hard to tell if they are dead sometimes actually, they act the same. Now that's the way to live.
Cats are the toejam.

Loosing a family member is always tough. God bless ya Hangtime and the rest of your family.

Oh, and my last cat I had to leave with my Dad cuz i moved to California. It flipped out, and would destroy every screen door in the house, leave for 2 weeks, then come back and do the same thing all over. He gave her the black needle pronto, there was no remorse, so don't feel to bad Big Gay Hang. :)
-
Hang sorry for your lose bro. It is amazing what we don't realize we take for granted till it is gone. Cats do their own thing for sure but it beats having nothing around.
Hairball ya gunna be missed around here that is for sure.
Take care Hang

Animals are a hard thing to lose. Dunno why, they can be and try to be annoying as hell and their goal in life appears to be to piss you off.
But when it counts they are always there and are some pretty funny creatures.
I have a cat and a dog (I've posted pictures of both)... the cat has feline diabetes (had her since '90/'91) and the dog, well it's just a dumb toejam.
Sorry about your loss Hang, she's in co-pilot heaven now though.

Sounds like a nice long run for a cat. I could tell from your posts that Hairball had all the love a cat needs or wants.<S>

Well that rots... sorry to hear that. I have a dog... mini pincher w/out the croped ears. He looks like like a damn bat ie batdog. When he goes it'll hurt like hell. Pets sure as hell can make some tough times alot more bearable. You have my condolances

Hangtime, my heart goes out to you in your time of loss. I'm still grieving the loss of my dog Buhd several years ago. But now I'm at the stage of fond rememberance. Hairball was a lucky cat to have someone love her so much. I hope this brings you some peace:

My wife and I have two cats and are very attached to them. I do not look forward to the day when I'm in the same situation you are in. :(
It may be too early for you and she could never be replaced, but do you have plans on getting another furball in your life?

God Hangtime, thats awful. I'm so sorry for your loss. My first dog was 19 years old when we had to put him to sleep (cancer)- after that long it is as bad as losing a member of the family. Take heart, your sadness will fade eventually, and you'll be left with fond memories of all the stupid things your cat did that made you laugh (well, at least that is how it is with my dog). Best wishes and good luck.

Sorry to hear about your loss... Was thinking of that old "Hairball wins one" post just a few days ago when I suggested to use a "screaming cat" sound from Hairball for sirens on a Ju-87. (I edited out that reference after reading this thread.)

My condolences Hang. :( Know what you're going through. I've got cats myself, and I've lost a few over the years (some dogs too.)

My condolences! It's very tough to lose a pet. But it sounds like Hairball had a very long and good life.
Just last year, in May, I lost my favorite co-pilot (would sleep on my lap for hours while I flew AH) "Egbert" to a coyote, after 15 memorable years. An indoor cat his entire life, he'd snuck out through a cracked window at around 4am. My wife and I had a very tough time dealing with his death.

Anyone else think this thread is getting extremely depressing?
Hang, really best luck to ya getting over your loss.
After dealing with so many deaths of family/friends/pets in my (short)life time, I can honestly say that the best way to bounce back is to go out and have fun. It's a pretty rough road, so it's best to get over it quickly.

Hang, your buddy was a class act! Seemed like a true personality. Made ya a good person too. I hope ya don't turn into an ahole now, or else we'll get HB to come back and haunt ya!! :)
My condolences for your loss!
We have a great cat and when she passes my wife will be a nut case for awhile. And I guess, so will I.
Take care, Hang!

is food. :)

Or bigger too Funked. I used to have a Tabby that as a kitten would go out in the "woods" (read: recreational area that simply couldn't be developed) behind our house in DC and catch rabbits.
The damn things were twice his size but he'd catch them and bring them back to the front lawn... little guy was viscious.
He died two years ago from diabetes, old age and somehow getting outside during a windy cool night on the chesapeake bay.

Having personally had a pet die in my arms I know how you’re feeling. I’m glad to have known about Hairball and the times you spent with her.
I have a dog and 2 cats, my youngest cat “Tang” (as in the drink, can you guess what color he is?) loves to sit on the top of my high back desk chair and watch me fly.
Humans could learn a lot from animals....

Well, as far as pets dying in arms, I've had to 'put down' 2 dogs myself...you see, we lived in a very rural part of the country, on a farm growing up...a Vet was something you called for your horse or cows, not for your pets...when we had to put our two beloved hunting dogs down (one due to severe hip displacia and the other due to the same thing, but age as well) we would do it ourselves, (our dog, our problem)...there ain't nothing worse than putting a gun to the back of their heads and doing it yourself..but looking back on it, it taught me at a young age about how valuable life is...that its okay to cry as a guy (first time I'd ever seen my "Stone-wall Jackson" father cry, and haven't seen him cry since) and it taught me about love and compassion for animals. Both dogs *knew* it was time, from the moment we carried them to the trailer attached to the back of the tractor, to the point we laid them to rest on the ground prior to putting them out of their misery..."Tony" actually licked my hand once I set him in the field, then lay his head down with the back of his head facing us (he'd seen us shoot cows for butchering, that we consumed in our family)...it was truly a sad moment...something I will never forget.
-
Rest in Peace, Hairball. <S>
Hang, you were as much a gift for Hairball as she was for you. You were both lucky to have each other as pals for so many years.

What banana said!
I should get so lucky as to be able to come back as a cat!

This is a very sad subject :( My prayers are with you and HairBall.
I think that God has a place for animals,... and you will meet HB again.
Best of wishes and times to follow for you Hang. You will see your friend again. <S>

Hang,
I have two cats, or they have me...
I can't imagine right now loosing one of my buds.
It is a loss to you and I feel a loss of a citizen of this comunity though I never had the pleasure of meeting her.
May she rest in peace. My sincerest condolances Hang.

Hangtime;
Haven't had the pleasure of "meeting" you and hadn't heard tales of Hairball 'til today... Sorry I missed you and the tales of what was obviously an outstanding cat!
Its' funny that a little critter can get so deep into your heart...
We got a kitten for our kids (11&13) this Christmas... they love her- and so do we!!! We had cats for years. It is good to have one again.
This evening the cat hissed at my son (its' 95 degrees and we don't have A/C-do ya blame her?). My son was truly hurt... like I say its' funny how they become a REAL FAMILY member!!
Take care...
Damned Augie

Ouch Hang, that sucks :( really sorry to hear about your loss.
I hope you feel all right...I know that you will say that you'd rather get a shark bite than it, but I'd suggest you to get a new cat... just to fill the space Hairball has just left empty in your life.
<S> Hairball...
-
Actually, Ram has a good point. Getting a new pet will help fill that empty space. I know after we had my dog put to sleep (I was 20 at the time, and I still cried like a little girl), it felt really wierd around the house. I ended up convincing my parents to let me take a friends dog (he was 4, now he is 7) who had bitten a child (the previous owner did day care) that followed him into his kennel. I was very close to this dog as well, since I was a friend of the family and had been playing with the dog since they had first gotten him. They either had to get rid of him or put him to sleep, and I wasn't going to let him be put to sleep ;-). I actually think it will help you get over your loss a lot more quickly if you get a new pet, but it really is your decision to make.
-
I can't stand critters. I hate almost anything that walks on 4 legs and has more fur than I do. That's why my wife and I have a dog, 2 ferrets, 2 cats and are looking fer a dog fer our dog.
Hang, Hairball mises you too and will keep you in mind just as you think of him. He's just in another place and kickin back. He ain't gone as long as you remember him.
<S> Hairball and <S> Hangtime.

S!
I've got a big male. He's fixed, but that doesn't stop him from kicking the toejam out of all the Tomcats in the neighbourhood. I think he was castrated late and he's pissed at losing his berries. (I adopted him at 2 years) One good thing, at least he doesn't spray, anyway not inside. His territoriality got him in trouble last year. He got into a fight with a raccoon. By the time I got outside he was a mess. Although there was no sign of the Raccoon and there were clumps of brown and black fur in the back yard where the fight was. He almost died that night, but after two weeks and $700 worth of Vet bills, he was almost back to normal. Lots of scars though. At least he didn't lose an eye.
For a while after that I kept him inside, but after getting woken up 3 times a night by him sitting next to my face and yowling, I broke down and let him back out again. I guess he will be happier determining his own fate.
When he crawls up into my lap and starts up that rattle trap purr, I almost think it's worth it. ;)

<salute> Hangtime.
Sorry to hear about your friend and companion. :(
My condolences.

Hangtime:
sorry to hear about your loss. :(
but always remember the good times,
Like when hairball made a bunmch of nose in the bathroom that sent you flying to see what it was and you knocked your monitor on the floor with the tower as well.
Salute Hairball.

I'm sorry Hangtime ... I lost a beloved cat after 14 years in Aug 1998 .. she was my friend .. and I still miss her, burried her out back and planted a plant .. every time the plant flowers, I think of her.
I have new cat now but I forget sometimes and call her by the wrong name. The new cat is wonderful and a friend, so I have been blessed twice.

Hm, I lost my Max, a labrador retriever, earlier this year. He was 14 and struggled with heart problems in the end.
I know what you're going through Hangtime

Hey Hang,
Really sorry to here of your loss. An AH Icon has passed away :( , Being the proud friend (Not owner, because I live with them not the other way around) ;) of 2 cats, 2 hamsters, 2 rabbits, 14 fish and occasional nursemaid to what ever the cats attempt to dismember out of the farmers field I can feel your loss, 1987 - 2001 not a bad run though.

Hangtime,
I know that mere words aren't sufficient to convey the feelings that surround the loss of Hairball. A ready wit, a great stick and one of the few cats I could actually like. Paraphrasing a comment above, if we don't forget Hairball then we can't lose her.
