This forumn seems to have a great deal of historical grudges than amount to basically: "I am right and you are wrong because I am clever and you are stupid" :old:
Is this inevitable when people get together with spare time ?

I think the jerk to nice guy ratio has changed for the worse. Do I think it is inevitable? Depends on who we are talking about. :aok

The endless purse fights in the old folks home over who HO’d who twenty years ago are part of the.. charm.

I dont think so at all. You have a half dozen jerks here and a couple carry over into the game, but for the most part we have a good group playing this game.
I have a good time when I fly/play. We have a great bunch of guys and it is non stop laughs. Always a good time. I ignore the crap on the boards, and help out where I can to those looking for it.

This.
I’m not sure where I float in the picture, but I have a damn good time in game.
I could be having my butt handed to me, nudge the villain, laugh about it, move onto the next clock-cleaning.
I think I even took a drubbing from you for shooting down your wounded P-47,…disparate people do desperate things. <shrug><innocent smile>
I look at it this way,..competition is healthy, you see it in every backyard baseball game, where the word ‘cheaters’ is said during 5 of 9 innings. You’re playing tomorrow too, after the BBQ together.
If there is no competition, no level frustration in it, the game is no longer working.
Taking a sim/game serious is good, be engaged, but if you’re not having a good time it may be a sign you went too deep and critical. Pull back a notch. Don’t take anything too seriously.
A lot of us had those days too. But also, most times, found our way back to the fun part.
A community protecting their tuff and game is a normal human reaction. Even for those who complain about it.
Never read too much into the rants within a seasoned community. Some have been a part of each other’s lives for up to a few decades.
That said, my words are not confined to me. :)

I'm generally helpful when I see people asking... having said that... :bolt: :neener:

It will never end until people understand how to draw lines for their own sanity.

The comradery in the game seems pretty good to me in the little bit I've been playing lately.
My skin isn't thin enough to let some random person on the internet, who lives their life here, to really change my gaming experience.
If it got to that point, I would just use squelch/report.

It seems all forums have dissidents who rage against what they consider an ignorant or miss informed majority some of whom then decide to take this personally and the lines of battle are drawn.
I think it is in our nature to want to get at each other. It gets subtler as we get older and perhaps is at the heart of the game.
I think it gets nasty when someone reminds of us some residual injustice or injustices that releases bile and then they become the focus of that.
In my opinion this is found in our basic organisation into groups which inevitably find allot but not all solidarity against some other that is not us. The unpleasantness come from a sense of exclusion as well as injustice. The contradiction is in co operating in order to compete.
"War is the continuation of politics by other means". We should be mindful of others mental health and saying "You should bet help" which we know is said as an insult not out of a desire to assist a fellow traveler through life :D.
When I compare European to US culture the US side priorities: self self reliance, family and personal freedom more than the European over a sense of the collective but we all ultimately do depend on each other and have to try and get along.

Is having a thick skin a good thing ? I don't mean to criticize but it can also mean one could be considered insensitive and oafish :bolt:
I am not saying you are but I think its a valid point. AH ideally should be a relief from the battle ground of daily life not a Bear Pit :uhoh

I think we should help them with that. I have noticed some tortured souls out there constantly railing against others.
Back in the day I remember someone coming out with a burst of expletives and another simply saying "We try to treat each other with respect here". I was very impressed and it was very effective. I thought what a great place :aok :D

I think we should help them with that.
Everyone has their own limit. Some more than others and it should be up to the individual to say enough...and log the minute this game is not fun.
Maybe its also perspective. I fully expect people to be rude when you kill them. I expect every sortie to be picked, Ho'ed, vulched or rammed. Then when I find that 1 out of 10 with someone that doesnt, it makes the day much better.
