Seems there are those that will fly hours off map to achieve their goals.
At best,I would like to see something like an automatic disco for leaving the boundaries of the map - or at least a downdraft off map that prevents altitudes above 5,000 feet.
Thoughts?
-
Are you sure there aren't any films of you doing it?
Not saying it out of disrespect but I was going through my old films from 2014 and found one of me doing it.
I used to love hunting people off map.
-
Off map flying should be off limits OR have your icon appear as if you are on radar to other teams.
I see some that rely on flying off map to avoid any interaction and its just silly that nothing has been done about it.
-
I never understood why the maps didn't have 80k walls on all 4 sides. Not sure how easy or hard that would be to implement.

It's not hard to do, just tedious.
I think there is a limit to the height of map features. It seems to be 32k (or something like that). The map I am currently working on has a 25k+ wall on all four sides. Also a couple of my maps have high mountain walls near the strats to prevent NOE off-map strat raids -- maybe the lamest gaming of the game.
-
Been thinking about using the Cloud editor to set an overcast at each strat, with limited clear skies. With Fronts functioning on an hourly cycle you should be able to set the overcast duration to what ever you want. Not sure that is the best way or not. I like the idea of high mountains for blocking, off map access.
-
That sounds like a ceiling.
-
Yes it would be, but it would vary with the Weather Front movement, Overcast skies, to broken clouds, to clear skies. Then repeat.
-
What if players actually decided to defend their strats?

It is done a lot more nowadays. More often than not the only thing keeping is if ENY is to high to take a jet. It is almost impossible to catch B29s at 30k even in a TA152 if you fall short of meeting them at alt.

I like the idea of the high mountain walls around strats but the 25k will not keep those that take heavy fighters off map.

I actually proved a point many years ago by shooting down a 28k b29 with an I16.
Once I found out B29s were in play, I usually made and ate lunch and watched their progress so I could vulch them on landing but many planes can catch B29s.
P47 D-11, P47M, P51b and possibly D model, a few F4u models, a BF110 without the cannon bulge on the bottom and no rockets, a mosquito fighter, P-38s, multiple 190s and 109s, Spitfire IX and XIV, TA52.
All planes listed have no trouble catching a high B-29 but it requires planning and patience......both of which are lacking in the arena.

We have a plane capable of helping players defend their strats in an emergency state, it’s just not been adjusted to correlate with the HQ changes = making AA #1 strat target. For some reason it’s also restricted by ENY even though it only be flown from one base.
I forget what it’s purpose is under these restraints. :headscratch:

So you vukched an empty bomber? The cool thing to do these days is resupply strats. As big of a non fan of that I am, it would be more effective than your approach. A little less tardy too.....
-
Yep.....shot down one at 30k feet in a spit XIV, lost a machine gun on left wing, and rearmed so I could chase him 5 sectors deep into his territory at 6k feet. While he went on at 30k I was below him.
He whined for help but theP47 couldn't save him when I found him next to his strats.
I wouldn't have done it if not for his smack talk.
You have to send the message that milkrunners will not be getting home.

A milk runner is someone that flys around in buffs bombing towns without intent to take them. A milk runner is not someone bombing a strategical target in the game.

That's your definition.

I would enjoy seeing a video of someone killing a B29 in a I16. At 30k that makes it even more insane. Must have been a total newb. They are so tough to shoot down, even if they aren't shooting back, which I haven't found one who wasn't.
The b26 should be perked too. Just saying :old:
-
I might have that video.
-
This has been and is one of the most egregious game issues going way back. I say if you fly off the map, then all your ordnance is immediately expended. :aok

So it seems the majority believe "off-mapping" should be stopped. Many great ideas on how to stop it.
I have no idea if HiTech reads these ideas. Any thoughts on how to implement a change through him?

Not that Im defending the "off mappers" (I hate them as much as anyone else) but nine players posting on the thread does NOT make a majority.
We all have things that other players do that just drive us crazy. Why park under a tree for 6 hours to make a base flash? Why climb to 30K+ to make a bomb run? Why resupply a town instead of defending it? Why turn into a HO every single pass you make? Why hide a CV group instead of using it to produce fights? And so on and so on and so on.
Play the game and enjoy yourselves and try to ignore those things that drive you nuts. Hitech isnt going to change things just because 9 players complained together.

I apologize for the misstatement. I should have said, the "majority" of the responders. I suspect the MAJORITY couldn't care less.

Not true. I would argue that a vote would win with the majority of players.
"Gamey" aspects (feet dry spawns/ off map flying) can and will at some point be stopped. Like when the IL2 used to have external view and players would exploit it. Off map flying is gamey, cowardly and really degrades game play

Thanks to Kong, this is easily remedied. I am going back on my original maps and correcting this issue. Hiltech has also fixed the Map Room collision issue for those located on an airfield. It will be functional on the next update. :D

I would argue that voting would be detrimental to the game. If we actually voted on everything, in a couple weeks you’d have unlimited ammo, fuel, and nukes. None of which would be good for game play.
Sometimes the stupid gamey stuff just needs to be put in check (dad need to get his belt out) because it’s bad for the game as a whole. The singular point of this game is simply to engage other players in combat. Flying off map contradicts that very premise.
There are going to be people who chime in with things like “you want me to play your way” and BS like that. That’s not true. What I want is for you to play with the rest of us. If your goal is to avoid other players to the extent that you need to fly off the map, I will argue that this community won’t miss you if you lose that ability.

Feet dry spawns are historically accurate.

That is NOT a "feet dry spawn". That is a group of transport/supply ship who have made a possibly harrowing pass from the main fleet off shore while maybe being bombed by hvy attack aircraft while dodging possible gun fire from mounted artillery guns along the coast.
The point being they had to fight their way in, where as a feet dry spawn is a freebi landing with no fight, and possible no indication an enemy was even there. Much like flying off the map to avoid fighting.
-
Every spawn isn't feet dry in game but you can bet your last dollar plenty of LVTS came ashore on LSTs.

Map room collision?

Make them go poof if they're more than a keypad off the map :old:

Map room collision?
Todd
With the current version of the game, air bases with the map rooms located on the base are not solid. By that I mean you can drive a gv into the building and shoot through it. In protecting the map room a normal technique is to fire an HE round at the door, at the described locations that does not work, the round goes through the building and only detonates on impact with the ground (or a gv inside the map room). :aok

Once I took some beer, snacks, TA152 with max fuel and lots of time to chase offmap runner. Took long time to catch it, was lone B29 around 30K, without wingmen. Finally at view, I attacked it from high 3 o'çlock, as I was in about 32K. Before I even got to shooting distance, came one burst from its top turret and my 152 was blown to smithereens.

If our bombers guns were this accurate in ww2 the drop tank fighters would not have been needed
If the accuracy were historically correct no one would fly bombers

Very true.

This happened to me the other day...had 100% fuel JABO for 2 sectors, but the dog insisted on going out. I came back to a gliding 38, 2k over water somewhere off map.
Was not intentional, but it happened. Basically, stuff happens.

Back in AW I fell asleep while flying a B-17. Woke up quite some time later and not only was I off map but I'd been transported to Boston and now I was in the outfield stands at Red Sox game!
It coulda been all the cough syrup though....

Definitely was the tincture for me :rofl

Flying off map should = insta-tower
This is already enabled in the DA furball area. Something similar should be added to all MA maps/settings. The offenders will probably go hide in a tree though.

It will be functional on the next update. :D

Yes, he does.

2k off the map ya get towered. Simple.
