Are any players affected by the Cali wildfires? If so, we may need to band together as a community to render assistance.

CA is third in places I’ve lived and spent the most amount of time, cumulatively ~5 years spread over decades and dozens of trips. Yet, CA geography never ceases to amaze me… majority of the affected folk are likely not among us plebs, who knows…

Our oldest son lives in Pasadena since he works for J.P.L and is not in the mandatory evacuation zone, Red Cross set up shelter in downtown Pasadena so they figured
they were good since they were nearby, if you are not directly affected by fire the smoke is the next thing worst thing according to him, it was his Birthday today so
my wife sent him some brownies, they made it and were delivered yesterday believe it or not, according to a co-worker of mine that grew up there, the place
burns like every 20 years or so, this time it may be the worst they have seen, next thing to worry about will be mud slides when and if it starts to rain. I lived there for a
year and a half and love all the outdoors had to offer, hated their politics. Funny thing I think they will just scrape it all off and rebuild again with the same density or
worse, kind of like how people rebuild in flood plains over and over :headscratch:

Not in immediate fire danger but have lost power a few times and the air quality is bad enough limit going outside. Have received a few Evac notices, but they turned out to be mistakes.
Have some friends closer to the fire that have had to evac. One hasn't evac'd but has been without power for 48+ hours.

My son and his wife live in Westwood, near the VA hospital. He told us this evening that the evac notices are screwed up, with different people randomly getting different notices. But he also says there's an app that works very well.

Where are the videos of the fires in these neighborhoods actually being fought?
I see very few shots of actual fire fighting and much of the smoldering ruins after the fire has past through..
What are the stories of low and no water pressure?
Hoping for an investigation of the response but they will be investigating themselves so nothing will change..
Don't think all the stories of Hollywood losing one of their mansions in the fire are stirring the emotions some think it might..

100mph winds stop AC from dumping water.
Too much water drawn at the same time in many places for extended time. After about 4 million gallons pressure drops, ya can’t keep the water towers full which is where pressure boost comes from.
Another problem was people abandoning their cars in the middle of the road and FD could get by all that for hours, finally a bulldozer got them all out of the way. They say this delayed many in FD for 2-3 hrs.
The FD is saying funding cuts caused major problems. When ya make cuts to infrastructures you get things like this. Refer to top sentence. I.E. in IN they cut funding for roads, 10 yrs later major expressway bridges started falling. They spent x3 what funding woild have been to fix it all fast.
There’s no deep conspiracy here. Its funding and physics.
Pretty sure the thread is about checking in our own.

I have a brother in Agoura Hills. They were evacuated. The level of fire mismanagement here is astounding.

The upside is that my 90 year old mother may get her wish of him moving back to Texas.

I'm a little south in Orange county away from the current fires, but the winds were and are a big factor. (100 yr old spanish home on top of a hill) A few nights ago, up to 90 mph winds. 3AM I was putting drywall screws through the vintage window doors into the frame because the latch hardware screws were loosening. The winds enhance the fire and hinder fighting the fire.

Seriously, it turns it into a Kiln. Engines in cars melted, most steel items melted.
Pretty damn disheartening.

Also read on a few fire web sites that Cali didn’t allow 60 fire vehicles from Oregon to be used to help fight the fires because they didn’t pass their Emissions Rules. Come on that state sent their equipment and fire fighters to help and their equipment was parked. I hope the people in the area stay safe out there who live there.

If that is indeed true, whoever made that decision should lose their job.

Laser disregard about the trucks on the emissions thing they didn’t test for that. It was mechanical issues but they fixed the issue now the trucks that were held back are on the front line. I rechecked his FB and someone posted the link but I do not know how to do that with my phone.

Lazer
here is the Link where I stand corrected about the emissions part, it was for mechanical reasons that were fixed. We also had to go threw the same thing with Our ambulances when we made it to loiusianna before we were issued Our Temp Certifications to Operate as Emt's and Medics down there during Hurricane IKE.

misleading, trucks were checked to make sure they were sound to make the trip and allowed to continue 2 were found with worn out parts and waited for repairs. no smog check was done. 300 firefighters from oregon and 75 engines are on the scene right now.
just so you know oregon follows the same emission rules as california.

Thank for the clarification semp and i did not know that Oregon followed the same emissions stuff

Texas just sent a bunch of people and equipment to help out.
