Title: dump file crash
Post by: Shenzi on January 20, 2025, 01:54:01 AM
So I still have not even been able to get to the title clipboard. White screen. DMP file is included in zip, windbg says that it is trying to write in a memory location that is already taken. I dont have the technical ability to know what to do with this though. ALL suggestions previously have not worked so this is just another desperate shot in the dark. pls help :)

I had the same problem after re-install. There is a fix. I’m tryin to find the thread, but no luck yet.

In my case it was trying to DL the game file(s) about 1gb if I remember.

BigR posted the file I DLed for the fix

Maybe fugi can find it before I do.

The game is looking for the "stdshapes.res" file. It is just shy of 1.9 GB

This is the fix at one time, https://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,409354.0.html but the link doesnt work any more, Animl?

Another thing you might try is to navigate to the Aces High folder and find the "AcesHigh9.exe" double click that to start the game in DX9 version. This worked when I tried to install the game on an old laptop.

Evidently not. It’s BigR’s OneDrive server. He may have changed access.

The game DLs this file on initial install.

That was the fix in my case, which sounds like the same symptoms.

Edit: Sorry I typed this as you were typing.

Tried to upload stdshapes.res on my site, but no joy doing it with WordPress file type restrictions, I'll try to setup an FTP to get it in, which would allow the file type.
Meanwhile if anyone can upload it.

Would be kewl if HT had it available on the site for stuff like this.

However you get it it just drops in the main Hitech Creations\Aces High III install folder

Someone was kind enough to upload it at the link below.
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/x98vz49guk2729exc72jf/AFGReUEXJ1UhvDCTJ0L5enU?rlkey=s4c7narw6ralrmawp5th61i4q&st=nqzx2tw9&dl=0

No matter what the issue is, if stdshapes.res file is not there the game will want it there and won't run without it. Since it's like the first thing the game wants to do when you open it the first time you're going to get the white screen freeze. For some reason it's not connecting to DL the file.
Even if that doesn't fix it, it's narrows process of elimination having it there.

When it happened to me HT had just upgraded the server connection service.

As I said it goes in the Hitech Creations\Aces High III install folder.

Which Windows OS are you using?

Could also check your firewall, and maybe turn off VPN if it's on.

Negative, as long as it's there don't bother.
Yep it's 1.9gb

This issue is rarely brought up since I've been back.

I'm trying to remember, but I think the next step in initial startup would be video settings.

Do you make it to seeing the clipboard?

Virgle had an issue here a while back, iirc, he downloaded the game but couldn't get on. What we did to fix it was I sent him copies of the current MA map res. files. Virgle could better describe the problem on his end

no clipboard, steam version doesnt even make it to the whitescreen, non steam white screens then crashes

Ok, there are only a few things happening in that space of start up, that I know of. Establish connection, DLing files and video settings.
Maybe try JimmyD3 suggestion.

Seems to me, a center point of this may be something with connection, unless you saw a download screen with status bar it's not getting there. Sounds like you didn't make it to video settings either.

Again, this is rare, don't get discouraged. Process of elimination.

Edit: I might stay away from the steam version if possible.

Just wondering if a DxDiag output of the first third would help figuring out anything...

This is a link to my DX page.

Not sure DX diag works the same in Win11.
You can try flushing your DirectX Shader Cache just to eliminate other issues.

still nada, does downloading this game over wifi have anything to do with this? I read around a bit.

I might try uninstalling the game, using the AH uninstaller, rebooting and then downloading again. I can not think of anything else to try.

There's always a possibility a file can becomes corrupted during a transfer.  It's rare but possible.

There is a video cfg file that I think is created once you enter and set it. I may get the name wrong and maybe someone can correct me, but it might be "video8", in the settings folder.

Not knowing what all you've already done, at this point it might be considered to save the files you DLed from others, uninstall the game, delete the game folder (If ya have a reg cleaner ya might run that too.) and start fresh again. Re-DL and re-install the standalone version.

My fix was the 1.9g stdshape.res file.

Sure is being stubborn. Another player had similar issues too. But I do see new players so I don't think it's the DL or server issue. I've been wrong before tho.

Damn!

Maybe time for a PC shaman or witch doctor to intervene on this.

Sorry man, this sucks. I hope one of the nerd/gurus around here or yourself gets this one figured out. I'll give my lucky silver dollar from 1879 a rub for luck!

I mean usually I can figure this stuff out but Im not sure why its trying to write to a memory location that is invalid

We’re dealing with 2 similar issues in 2 threads.

New install in laptop thread we are going through video that may include you as something to follow.

How did you find out writing to invalid memory location?

Check that stdshape file size. Usually ya go past video settings and then DL shapes. I’m not sure we’re making it past or even to video setup

White screen is usually video or monitor related. In my case it was trying to read what wasn’t there. But if you have shapes and no change I’d be looking at video settings to make sure they’re in line with your monitor capabilities.

Again, process of elimination

Also in Win11 I think there is video troubleshooting app.

You can also look into Event Logs

Thats awesome.
I didn’t want to go the Windows settings route because it can be endless.

Sorry you had to go through that.

Welcome back ;)
