Title: Holy Cow.....
Post by: Shuffler on January 20, 2025, 11:15:49 AM
3 to 5 inches of snow expected. Extremely rare. Even snow expected in Galveston Texas.
LOL we are closing the shop tomorrow and Wednesday. We don't drive on snow and ice.

Pretty wild.  They're calling for 5-8 inches in New Orleans.  3-5 in Pensacola and 2-3 in Tallahassee.  Not enough cows farting this year, I guess.

The dogs freak out as most have never seen snow.

You'll likely see poorly made snowmen in every other yard.

Those of us that live in the north tend to laugh at the havoc a dusting of snow causes down south.

Snow day for folks that don't have 4wd/AWD sounds appropriate

I've lived in the north and south. Even in the north come that first big snow and ice storm you get idiots in 4 wheel drive trucks driving like they can stop better because of the 4WD. They cannot and do not. I had a 4WD Silveraydo so know this first hand. You see one coming up to a 4 way stop better wait for them to stop.

I only have 4wds, and because I have lived all over the US and Canada, I know to keep it in 2wd on snow and ice.

True.
I blow by 4wd trucks up here. They kinda timid, many have never seen dirt. Ya know 46k investment an all keeping up with the fad.

Galveston is one of my favorite little towns right after Pensacola. Can't imagine snow there.

Power outtages might make this a much bigger event.

Unless everyone stays home you're gonna see a lot of vehicles, especially trucks, plowed into guard rails along the roads. Happens in the Dallas area whenever the roads get icy.

The worst is on bridges. Some drive along too fast thinking this is not bad. They come to a bridge, start sliding, and hit their brakes. Only experience teaches you don't do that but they have no experience.

Yesterday was cold, never got above about 37 here with a low of 19. Today the low was 24 and there is a light dusting of snow. The precip didn't arrive in my area until well after midnight so the light snow stuck on the ground. Sun is out now and even though it's still only 26 it's melting on the street. I didn't hear the school bus so I think they closed the schools down due to icy roads. Yeah to the north it wouldn't be any big deal but no one here has even snow tires much less studded tires or experience with ice. Better to just say stay home and resume operations tomorrow.

So far the grid has held up. Got my fingers crossed some moron doesn't take out a power pole due to stupidity and ice. Got an all electric house here as gas not very common in my town.

Minimal power outages at this point in Texas. Snow is 6 inches deep on my driveway. I am about 30 miles east of Houston. It is still snowing but has lightened up.

I have a Generac. Promised my wife, no more outages here. Did that after the big freeze.

Made it to work this morning. Wasn’t so bad but I took the quiet route to try to avoid the majority of the idiots. Some guy wiped out his Corvette near work and another guy ran a red light in front of me. All the airports were shut down. Even Hobby and Intercontinental.

Subject line had me thinking this was about Shuff's margarita induced conversion to Hinduism. However this global warming event has been caused by the malicious cow farting in the wind. Another reason to eat more beef, and fire up the coals to cook and stay warm.
Think the kid's are out shoveling snow for cash?

You forgot to include the part about pouring oil on the road and your dad owning a collision repair shop at the next exit.

I was in Tuscon AZ in 1988 when it got a nice blanket of snow.  It was pure pandelerium I tell you!

I was in Tucson at that time as well, working for the city on a motorcycle. Snowflakes hurt at any speed over 35 MPH. There was another significant snowfall about 2010 I think. We were wintering in Tucson while living in our RV full time. The RV park at DM-AFB got hammered pretty good. Fortunately we had plenty of propane.

Was that the reason for the crazy floods around that time?

Here's myrtle beach with 5 inches of snow.

Lots of fun to be had in the snow and cold..

Ice fishing
Snowmobiling
Sledding
Tubing
Skiing

I enjoy living somewhere where I can experience all of the seasons.

When temperatures drop below 0 it can get kind of annoying, but even here in Wisconsin that is getting pretty rare in comparison to when I was a child.

Lived in Kenai Alaska for 25 years, worked on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline for 21 years, from Prudhoe Bay to the Valdez Terminal. I have had enough snow and and -40 deg. temperatures.

Anyone who’s lived in our 3-4 state area, and old enough, have noticed a definite climate change. When we used to get 2’ of snow that would stay on the ground through the season 20 yrs ago through several snow storms, now we’re lucky to see 4 inches last a week. We haven’t even had 3” yet this year.

If you look into whats happening to the polar dome that holds the cold air in the arctic, the warmer air blows over it now blows through it, and the jet stream is pushing it further south turning humidity into snow.  It didn’t drop anything on the way, it was just the cold jet stream pushing further south than normal.

Since wind usually blows from the west if there is drought out west it tends to limit moisture for our snow.

Most deniers live in the south where they notice almost nothing. The rest if it notices. More and harsher hurricanes because of warmer water isn’t breaking through. So for people in the north think deniers are bat crap crazy on the subject.

The precipitation in your area is being affected just like greenland's ice sheet.

The water that used to evaporate into the winds that pass your area now evaporates in southern california and then goes out to sea instead of passing over you on the way to greenland.

It's not fossil fuels that are the issue, it is greed and gluttony

How can anyone believe gore or Kerry when it comes to anything let alone their "facts" on our climate future..
