Title: Samsung tv voice command hacked
Post by: Eagler on January 30, 2025, 07:21:48 AM
https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/tv/voice-command-translates-english-to-russian/td-p/11511548

The father-in-laws samsung tv is affected by this hack..

When you speak a command it's interpreted into Russian which the tv doesn't understand

Seems samsung uses an external server that handles its voice control which seems to have been compromised

I used to have all Samsung electronics in my home. That stopped when they failed to stand behind a big screen TV I had where the chip was bad. Started getting white dots on screen. They fixed many and would not stand behind mine. Had one of their techs tell me their TVs are designed to last 5 years. I posted that all over back then.
I now have all LG. Even all my kitchen is LG.

Yup, same thing happened to mine. We bought our 2018 QLED 75" off the former owners of the home when we bought it in 2021. Lasted 1 year before it started turning off and on and off on its own due to a failing chip... freaking cheap bastages. They actually got sued for that but won the case..

I told them I wouldn't be buying their garbage anymore.

Fixed this morning.

Samsung got control of their server again as voice commands are in English and working properly

Father-in-law is happy again

I'm everything visual is Samsung, everything audio is Bose.
Been using Samsung for over 20 yrs. All but one TV lasted well past 5 yrs.

As I understand it, Samsung use to, or still does, hold some main patents on flat screen technologies.

I use NOTHING that listens. I don't even leave my headset plugged in. Siri is disabled everywhere, it's not even setup for my voice, no facial logins. I make purchases in cash or rechargeable cards. I'm not paranoid, things are just way out of hand and stupified.

Yeah, you are.

Nope. Its just not right.  Marketing is the excuse. If I’m having a private convo I expect only two people are listening. I don’t freak out about it, its just creepy or intrusive against my will.

These things listen non-stop for your voice, so they are always on.

If you want privacy these days limiting it is what ya have to do. <shrug>

Even if nothing is used it still creepy lol.

I used to have rotting goat heads and candies in my living-room,… now its done in a sound proofed walk-in closet. Its potato peelin annoying.
