Got a new stick, Yea, chicks will dig me now.
everything has gone fine except the twist rudder is not even showing working in AH.
It twist but doesn't alter any data in Map Controllers in Z Rotation or anywhere else
Haven't seen anything pertaining to enabling it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Does it have a twist access showing under windows game controller info window?
Does it work in IL2 or dcs? ... just joking

Actually not much registers there

I have a VKB gunfighter so I'm familiar with the software. It's a pain to deal with but incredibly powerful.
The thing with their stuff is there's a process in their software for flashing the firmware, setting it to default (important) and then calibrating the stick axii using ONLY their software. DO NOT use windows to calibrate or test their stuff! It'll tangle it up on knots.
I'm on my phone so don't have links to send but there are vids on the VKB YT channel that show the process.

Thanks Drano
I used windows Cal just to see if it's doing anything. First 4 times nothing,...played with Dev Config app. just looking really, it popped a note to use Windows.
Suddenly I have rudder.
Suppose to have an 8-way hat, seems more like 4-way
Haven't really used the Dev cfg to do much of anything. I was told I don't need it for AH, it's the only sim i fly,...but seems I might somewhere a long the line.
So far I got all 3 axis rotations working. Yet don't know how. Now X and Y work but don't show working in Windows.
Evidently I need a tutor.
I DLed the firmware update but too new to know where ya load it.
Since I only play one sim I just got the NXT WWII model, I can change out the grip later if needed.

Crap I have rudder but now X and Y are full or 0....i porked something up
-
UGH!
Now I have all 3. I calibrated in Dev Cfg
Goin to take a break and jab a pen in my eye, several times

Towards the end of this vid details the calibration. After that, AH should see it in all its nudity....err...glory.

Awesome thanks, that really helps.
Sheesh, been 30 yrs since I had a new stick. I got my x52 used from Tumor in 2001, so it's more than 16 yrs old, evidently I flunked 3rd grade math, 24 yrs old. Sure got a lot of mileage out of that beast. It was going totally porked. With hands off it the AC swayed like it was hangin on a string. Lucky to have hit ANYTHING.
It will take some flights to get it tweaked in. Thanks for the convos and help, everyone.
Seems I have to leave the Dev Cfg open?

No, shouldn't need to leave it open. Just be sure to configure, calibrate and save. After that it should be fine in AH. After setting up the way you want, save a copy of those settings in AH in case you lose everything-which happens sometimes no matter what equipment you are using.
After that and you want to get a little tricky, go watch some YouTube vids on how to tweak the VKB software, there's some pretty cool stuff you can do with it.
I gave my VKB HOTAS rig to Leisure (or whatever name he flies with) last week for watching my house a bunch this last year. I ordered a new HOTAS from VKB but a Fighterstick Ultimate included this time. It's probably overkill but I don't care. It should be here Friday, looking forward to tweaking it before dying a bunch with it.

Yeah these new sticks ain't like the old ones. Can't just plug em in and go. Devconfig goes on forever. You can set up stuff to do with a button press I'd never even think of using--but it's there. You don't need it for AH as the mapper there works fine but you do need the stick to be ready for AH to use. That's where Devconfig is needed. You have to update the firmware (or not--yours may have the latest installed already), click on default and then calibrate all the axii.
TBH I have both a VKB stick and Virpil throttle. Both of their softwares are over the top and not at all user friendly. I have both of those set up and calibrated basically with their softwares. I then use another software called joystick gremlin that ties all my controllers together with different profiles. But that's generally just basic blank profiles that I can switch using the 5 position rotary knob on the throttle. I have those set up there for different sims. It's also pretty powerful. You can set curves and macros, etc. The only other software I use for mapping is Spad.next for MSFS. That sim is kinda crazy the way every stinking button knob and lever in a cockpit is coded (literally) . There ain't enough keypad commands to cover it! It's a different animal for sure.
I haven't messed with either of the VKB or Virpil softwares in a long while. Reason being with these sticks is the profiles are saved directly to the sticks so once that's done, you don't need those to be running.

Ok makes sense now, firmware is onboard the base/stick. I dind't go through all cals just trying to get rudder going. When I saved to reg is just saved a bunch of blanks on the other stuff... so that's why I have to have dev open for all to work.
I DLed the firmware update, mine is not current.
Thanks for the info guys.
I have some re-kick starting to do.

Once you get it set there's no reason to have the program running.
Look on the VKB downloads site. There are testing apps there you can use to make sure you're stuff is working. Just be sure not to go into the windows joystick applet for these sticks. You'll be sorry!

1st flight, second pull on trigger, first kill with it. Yup different level for sure
-
When I got mine, I had a 3 kill sortie first time out. It was all downhill after that with multiple yard sales with P-38 parts hanging from trees.
It'll be an interesting time while I learn to use pedals. Line up for the easy kills, you murderers!

i was gonna buy one of this sticks, hearing about your troubles, i'll stick with my logitek

meh, my troubles were me. Just needed a kick start on how it works. Workin very good now, very happy.

Using the VKB WW2 stick, pedals and throttle...haven't run into any issues, really love this setup. Switched over from Logitech G940

Part of the thing with these sticks is the ability to swap grips on a base, definitely not a bad thing. Because of that, you have to flash it with the correct firmware for whatever combination of grip and base you have connected. For example, I have a Gunfighter MKI base with the MKI black box and an MCG-Pro grip. There's a slew of different firmwares for the Gunfighter MKI including different ones for the MCG-Pro w/twist and non-twist like mine. Gotta make sure you're flashing the right one for everything to work. Then once you've done that and calibrated it's pretty much set it and forget it (tm Ron Popiel). Like I said, I hadn't even opened Devconfig in a while. Looked late last night and I haven't updated it or the firmware in over a year. Filed under if it ain't broke.
As I said, I'm not using all these softwares to map things at all once I found a way to consolidate all my controllers with a combination of vJoy, HIDhide and Joystick Gremlin. One profile for them all now.

I certainly didn’t mean to give the stick a bad rap. It was me being feeble minded.
When I saw how easy the first kill on the first flight second trigger pull I was glad i finally bought.
The rest of the night I was fighting 20k groups so, can’t expect much from that in kills. Dolby ended up saving my butt being ganged in 262.
Once I learned all I had to do was calibrate in Dev Cfg, I didn’t need it anymore. Totally happy with it. Changed the springs to #10, tweaked the damper screws, dumped the nose bounce, I’m in the ball park now. Tiny tweaks to be done after using in it a while.
I couldn’t justify Virpil fir one sim, but I’m good
Killer help AS USUAL, kudos!
-
Still trying to adapt muscle memory to the new stick. Still used to trying to correct over-steering of the last stick. But its falling in place. Since I’m not fighting the stick so much I went back to manual trim adjustments, using more rudder and flaps.
The VKB NXT Gladiator base saw s the smoothest gimbal I ever felt in a stick. Virpil may be smoother.. For me, its perfect. I changed springs to #10, tweaked the analog damping, $120 was well spent.
Now if I can just work on my skills instead of fighting a stick.
Tip:
Not that I would know ANYTHING about it <innocent smile>, if you flash your firmware wrong, here is the steps to clear the set the firmware back to default.
Disconnect the USB cable from the BB (Base), run the VKBDevCfg, press and hold the button on the BB, re-connect the USB cable to BB; when new device shows up in Device List release the BB button. Try to re-flash this way.
