According to the article I saw he was 95. A Marine Veteran as well as a fine actor. RIP.

Can never trust the "no faul play" narrative any more, however this appears from the outside most likely carbon monoxide leak.

That's what I was thinking too.

This just got real interesting, because now they are saying their other dogs were alive and pill bottles scattered around... hmm
-
I'm wondering if a tornado got 'em.

When ppl become ill they go to medication, pass out and die while trying to find it.
If its carbon monoxide it depends where the leak was and where the other dogs were located CM hangs closer to floor. If they were at another level of the home they wouldn’t get affected.
Now if we’re going off deep end, someone could turn in stove with no flame and turn it off after death.
As soon as the cops opened the door the gas leaks out or dissipated before they arrived

I've read in one article that it's speculated that his wife died first and that he had Alzheimer's. He was 95 and looked pretty frail in the last photos of him.
I'm wondering if his wife got sick/died/suddenly dropped dead and then he wasn't able to do anything. Maybe he fell and got hurt and was unable to get up. They say there was no gas leaks, but that there was a space-heater in one of those rooms.

Amazing how our brains garb the fastest connection/answer, right ir wrong, when an answer is missing. The brain prioritizes fast answer over correct answer.
IMO, this is how conspiracy works. An active brain wants the answer right now, to move on, any one will do.
-
I don't know. I don't jump to conclusions about stuff or present things that can't be known as the truth. Just speculating.
-
There is not enough info out to have a reasonable hypothesis. The pill bottle (and only one was reported) could have been aspirin for all we know. Carbon monoxide is a valid theory but the autopsy will say one way or another. I had not heard of other dogs at the home. Were they inside of outside. My guess is outside if any, otherwise their bodies would have been at least partially consumed instead of being reported as starting to mummify.
At this point I'm content to wait for the investigation to get done. Not a fan of useless speculation, or as I call it, mental masturbation.
-
Reading several news articles, several mention that his wife was in a "state of decomposition" and her hands and feet were starting to mummify - but they only say that Gene was fully clothed and it appeared that he had fallen and do not mention what his condition was.
They also say that there was a space heater next to his wife's head that "may have fallen over when she fell suddenly" and that there was an open pill bottle with scattered pills on the counter and next to her.
So , who knows. But if that stuff is true, I can picture here going for her pills and collapsing.
-
Of course we need to wait until all the reports and information are in, but there's still an outside possibility that a tornado got to them.
-
All of this premature speculation is dangerous. Just. Stop. This is how more people get hurt.
I'm figuring it's an inheritance scheme by his grandkids.

I wanted to pass this one along. It's from a person on my forum who has a military background.

Someone could have come down through the chimeny, upside down, you know like on a cable like Tom Cruise does... then blowgun with tree frog poison darts. If tethered with fishing line, the darts could be pulled out and removed... all without having to put tell-tale footprints in the carpeting. Definitely a sophisticated hit job.

I don't like speculating, but did New Mexico reintroduce wolves? I'm just wondering if it's a possibility that Gene could have befriended a pack of wolves and got them to the point where he was feeding them in the house when they suddenly turned on him. I mean I'm just throwing that out there. That's probably not what happened.
But coming down the chimney to assassinate him is a real possibility. And old man is right, they would go for the dog first. Give the dog the first dart. But it's not like it would have mattered if the dog alerted anyway because the dog was in a kennel. So the assassin didn't care if they were alerted or not by the dog.
I've been reading the history of tornadoes in Santa Fe and it's looking less likely that it could have been a tornado.

I read he lied about his age and joined the Marines at 16. Later, he was at an acting school along with Dustin Hoffman where they were voted "least likely to succeed." He didn't get a sustaining role until he was 37. at one point he sold pots and pans door-to-door.
He was one of my favorites and I'd love to see what happened to who was voted "most likely to succeed" at that school.
-
He was a really great actor. He was absolutely fantastic and Unforgiven.
-
That was a great movie.
-
That movie gets better each time I watch it.
-
In all seriousness, he was a natural actor.

Excellent actor, full life, bizarre ending...RIP Gene
Odd they can't provide an answer..like other things these days, it'll just fade into the very noisy background to be replaced by the next bizarre event

Probably the poison tree frog dart assassin got them.

gina is correct it's all over the news. however 1 specific detail is missing, he was in the late stages of dementia, probably why he didnt notice his wife was dead.

When it's a blessing and not a curse..
Sad way for any to go including the dog
Rat turd poisoning causing the lungs to fill with fluid very very fast has to be the strangest cause of death I have heard in a while..
At least he has his mind, wife and dog with him now

In all seriousness, even though we now know that they didn't die by the hands of a poison-dart assassin coming down the chimney upside down on a cable with fishing line attached to the darts so as to retrieve them, thus concealing all evidence .......
It's still a good idea to know karate. I know karate and I do have some Ninja capability JUST for that very scenario. Nine times out of ten I'm going to liquidate any threats coming down a chimney in that manner.

I get what killed Hackman. 95 years old, lots of previous heart trouble.
I do not buy the story that his wife Betsy died solely from Hantavirus. Like pneumonia or any other respiratory virus, the onset is marked by flu-like symptoms. No one interviewed who had interaction with Betsy that day and the day prior noticed any signs of sickness. You simply don't drop dead from this virus, like out of the blue. There's a steady decline, marked by serious symptoms which would surely motivate her to get medical help. If Betsy was deathly ill, she would not have been running errands the morning she supposedly died. If Betsy had a serious heart condition, maybe, but the autopsy did not reveal heart disease. According to the CDC, "Most patients experience progressive evidence of pulmonary edema and hypoxia, usually requiring mechanical ventilation".
It seems that an awful lot of folks buy into this, without researching the disease.
Also, keep in mind that this is the same Sheriff's Dept. and lead investigator that completely bungled the Alec Baldwin/Rust investigation.

Howdy Widewing!
I thought the same thing but I guess the explanation was enough for the family who are counting their inheritance $$$$ by now...

They say that fatal lung/heart issues can come on very suddenly - within hours. Organs can shut down quickly. Those symptoms occur in the late phases of the illness - 4-10 days after initial symptoms.
It can also cause low blood pressure - which does not have mnay apparent outward signs. People can die very suddenly from organ failure.
-
IMO both should not have been at their home. If she had a confirmed diagnosis of Hanta she should have been in the hospital. Given his frailty and severity of dementia he should have been in a nursing home / hospice. They might both be alive or not at this time but at least they would have been at a place for supportive care instead of dying separately in their home and not being found for over a week after he died.
-
He has long been among my favorite actors. Saw the recentish paparazzi pic of him and his wife and it was obvious in that he was mostly gone.

95 years is a long run. My Father died with Alzheimer's at 84 and my Mother will be 91 in May. Her mind is still capable but her body isn't. At 70 I think I'd like to go with both my mind and body functional but if you want to hear God laugh tell him your plans.
