Title: Steam stutter
Post by: haggerty on March 01, 2025, 10:55:29 AM
Was there ever a fix for this?  I thought it was resolved last time I was playing, but now that I'm back I get it regularly enough that its going to be a problem.

What is a Steam stutter? I'm guessing it has to do with Steam VR?

DX9 version of AH3 doesn't suffer stutter as far as I can tell and that's the only fix.
I don't think VR can be used outside of DX11..

yeah, I remember the older DX9 not having the stutter, I thought Steam made it mandatory to use 11 or 12 a few years ago.  I'll see if I can get it to launch in 9.

Edit:  Doh, in my searching for a solution it looks like I was trying to run DX9 version from Steam 5 years ago...looks like Steam only has the DX11 files in the game folder.

I might suggest not using steam.

Are you still at Misawa? I was stationed there for 6 months in the late 80ies at a NAF there. Not sure if it still exists. I have never seen so much snow fall in one day as I did there and I've never seen clouds so close to ground level as I did there. Definitely an interesting place.

If you are not  running VR, you could try moving the DX9 version of the execute to the steam folder and rename it DX11.exe. Steam looks for a file name, I dont think it searchs the file before it runs it.

Just a thought

Steam version no longer has both DX executables, just a single Aceshighsteam.exe
I could try downloading the non-steam version and see if a DX9 executable will work, but I doubt it.

Playing without Steam and using DX 9 SHOULD work.

DX9 did work great, but Hitech had to remove the option from the steam install over 5 years ago.
