Windows has so many options during the install process that require proper usage or your experience may not be what you want.

You can get around that by disabling network access (unplug catx cable, turn off wifi) before you start the install. When it prompts you for access, open an admin level shell, type this;

Open CMD (shift+F10)
OOBE\BYPASSNRO

Then reboot.

Exactly... that is what I have to do as Windows is not meant for business.

There were better game platforms than IBM in decades past. I knew the days of the Amiga (had a 2000) as the premier gaming PC were over when Origin released Wing Commander for MS-DOS in 1990 before other platforms. VGA and Super VGA made that transition less painful.

Discrete audio cards like adlib helped also.

Who here never owned a Sound Blaster? Don't raise your hand.

We have 15K Windows machines and don't have any issues with that.

I had an A500 and an A3000 back in the day. I actually started playing AW on an Amiga 500. I remember when I upgraded my 2400 USRobotics modem to a blazing fast 14.4 Linelink. I was so excited to be able to be able to connect to the "high speed" line of the Superboard BBS at 9600! Back when you had to make sure your UART was fast enough to support those "blazing fast speeds"

I miss those days. Guess I'm getting old.

I liked OS/2 Warp (don't shoot me).  It was a huge uplift from Desqview for multitasking. I was running a multiline BBS (partly for the BKs) at the time.

Computerwise, I started with a C64, then Amiga 500(?), before getting a 386. The Amiga kicked butt for it's time.

Definitely not looking forward to moving to Win11.  Been debating on how I'm going to migrate for a while.

btw I saw something on youtube yesterday that said the "Open CMD (shift+F10)
OOBE\BYPASSNRO" may have been patched into not working now.

I think there are still workarounds for creating a local account in Windows 11. If privacy is your concern you can create a gmail or other account with no ties to the real you other than IP association and use that for the Microsoft account. MS will register the license for the machine to that account so if you're concerned about the legitimacy of the license it could be an issue.

There is. As Jigsaw wrote a few posts above, opening the Command Prompt by pressing Shift+F10 during the first steps and typing "OOBE\BYPASSNRO" followed by Enter will restart the system and you'll be allowed to create a local account. Similarly to installing Win10 disabling the Internet connection followed by taking one step back may be required.

Also, if you already have installed Win11 using the Microsoft account you can either change that to a local one or create a new local user. After that you can remove your MS account from all instances in your computer and even disconnect your computer from that account through the Microsoft website.

Bought 2 licenses they worked fine.

Four of my computers were free upgrades to windows 11 from windows 7 and windows 8.

Microsoft said, as of maybe year or two ago, if I change CPU and/or motherboard again would have to get new license. Couldn't do the old switcheroo any more.

Now when I upgrade CPU/MB can transfer license to new hardware.

I am not giving up my Win 3.1. It has AOL and DOS is boss.
