Title: The Community Film Showcase
Post by: LCADolby on April 06, 2025, 04:42:08 AM
on the main page, this section has been monopolised by 1 film maker for month after month.

It doesn't showcase any other films from any other film makers of the community

For Shame

That is because there is no one really keeping up with the page. I have offered my services heck Ill even do the updates and send them to "Spikes" (I think hes the one with access)to check and upload to the site saving him time/work.

Well for a while (years back at this point) I was the only person making videos in AH. Animl started to make some so I put his up instead. That's no way to ask nicely. :)

I will say that the only criteria I look for is mainly short films. As a showcase I'd prefer to avoid films that for example showcase a whole FSO (even cut down, like 20+ min films I'm talking). I just don't think that's a good candidate for the homepage. Nothing against those videos of course, I watch them myself. Just not great for the prospective new player.

What else besides events updates should go on the home page? Perhaps if the MA gets a new map or something, we can post the strat/CBM.

Id pop up reminders for the MNM and Tank Thursday a day or two before. I wouldnt use the same  "ad" but make a half dozen to run through to keep it interesting. FSO and Scenarios Should get the same treatment, heck Brooke is like a televangelist when he's recruiting for a Scenario, more updates, a couple a week to try and keep up with him  :D

Top 10 lists like "Haggerty" use to do for most kills in each plane model. Release a few a day until the next tour starts, build interest in flying other planes.

Training video of the week, short videos on how to do things in AH. I know there are a half dozen or more at the moment on the training page, bring them out front. Im sure others could build/add more to the group.

Changing bits of the page makes things look active and ....still alive  :)

New maps should definitely be posted on the front page. All current events for the month. Maybe one or 2 videos from time to time. Just to let people know when they see the website that events are happening.

Maybe a mention of MNM and Tank Night could help. Even a mention of what the theme of the night is? That may be a bit granular though.

Perhaps mentioning one of the high scores for fighter, bomber, attack or whatever at the end of each campaign? Maybe mentioning only one category on a rotational basis.

A "squad of the month" or pilot of the month sorta blurb. "Xanax was shot down over 1000 times this month. Here's word from the pilot himself" type thing. Of course it should be a positive accounting.

I don't know, stuff like the above to show there's still activity and fun behind the curtain. Just spitballin' here.

I made an observation, I wasn't asking for anything.
I called attention to it, someone can do something about it or they sit and do nothing.  :old:

I think these are all great Ideas , definitely new players seeing guys names that are top the list for scores,  kills per plane , rank whatever. Then, they try the 2 week trial see a few of these fellas online, get to meet talk makes it seem like the game is alive and fun.

Good point on the 2-week trial, BigDawg. That needs to highlighted and emphasized along with the no CC required part.

Also: maybe some links to some of the AH-centric Youtube channels. Get the Fugitive, Animal, Horble, Steely and other's channels pointed to.

Curb appeal is a big part to getting potential pilots to click stuff I suppose.

My opinion of course, but I would think it's best to only post once or twice a month to the homepage itself. I don't have access to other pages but maybe could get it if we wanted to update some of the help/training pages and add stuff like your videos. For instance updating the "Useful links" page and  I assume HT would prefer to keep the homepage for "News & Announcements" type stuff.

I can certainly add MNM and Tank Thursday to the monthly event posting, probably in a "Mondays at X" and "Thursdays at Y" capacity since I know sometimes they get cancelled, albeit not often.

Agreed on 2 weeks to 30 days. Anything deleted too early for room could be missed.
Avoid info overload, helps important things be remembered.

Thanks for the effort.

I am scheduled to have lunch with Dale this coming Monday, if it would help, I could broach the subject with him. Maybe suggest getting some more players to assist Spike on the web site. Let me know so I can put it on my list.  :D

This is where I assume you, or him is wrong.  Any sign of life would be ideal for new people visiting the site.

Be it big news, or small news is up to the community now.

Even skin updates should be posted to in my opinion.  Guaranteed 1 post per month.  And they show off some great work.

Careful of too many fingers in the pie. Only takes one person to update the home page.

I can hear the favoritism accusations on YT page links now <shrug>

Perhaps, but if I go and look at 10-15 various game websites it's usually just announcements and stuff, it doesn't look like a Facebook feed. Daily announcements of happenings would be better off for...a Facebook feed.

New map posts would be few and far between (not meant as a bad thing).
Events posts would be once a month.
Skins posts would be once a month.

Mi think you’re on the right track. Not that my opinion matters.

Suggest not just the top dog. Interview a regular player in a good light. Can be a down right serious interview or one off the cuff and funny. Spread it around.

Events as soon as they come out, skins delayed a couple weeks?  Add in some player created content and you have 3 to 4 updates a month.  I'm not sure how much it would help, but it's a step in the right direction.  I've got a feeling the gameplay for what people pay for has dissolved to the point of no return.
