Title: New Cpu
Post by: FX1 on April 25, 2025, 08:53:02 PM
Looking to start back and need a new cpu for the ranch. Nothing crazy but to run this game on the weekends.

I just bought a new box. this is what I got https://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,410729.msg5445782.html#msg5445782 I used my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti from the old box, but that is a pretty good card and more than enough to run the game even in VR. Im pretty sure my 1060 can still run VR, but the game runs fine with everything turned on so a Nvidia 1060 is plenty of card.

In the end you can get a used computer for under $600 that will have no problems running AH.

In the old days when I thought I knew everything I would have made a hardware suggestion. These days realizing I don't I would recommend watching "Crater". He has a bunch of builds on YouTube.

Here's some real world experience that will most likely go against all the bottleneck calculators and people who think you need a 14900 to run pong.

I have 2 12100Fs that I'm using with a 4070 super and a 1080 TI with Quest 2. Somebody told me that I needed a way more powerful cpu to get full performance out of the 4070 super so I got a 12700. I replaced the 12100F in both rigs with the 12700 and saw minimal performance differences in WT IL2 GB and AH3 so I sent it back.

The 12100F is currently $71 on amazon:

In my opinion it's a pretty good deal for the performance you get. The 13100 or 14100 or whatever might be a better deal. I haven't priced them. I only have direct experience with the 12100.

It will help too if you choose VR or monitor with or without TrackIR up front.

I built about 9 systems for AH in the past couple of years, usually at the low-cost side for 1080p resolution (i.e., no VR).

Here's a list like a few machines I built, with some different options for graphics card, amount of ram, amount of nvme:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2FTTGEKPLXTPK?ref_=wl_share

About $440 will do it if you want cheapest to get 60 fps with decent AH settings*. (Choose 16 gb ram, 500 gb nvme, gt 1030 graphics card.)

About $610 for 60 fps at max AH settings or so and run numerous other games decently.  (Choose 32 gb ram, 1 tb nvme, rx 6600 graphics card.)

Those prices don't include monitor, keyboard/mouse, or battery backup.  I put candidates for those in the list if you need them.  It doesn't include price for getting windows.  There are win11 pro key keys available from gamers-outlet.net.

*"decent AH settings" in the above for the cheap system means settings at default -- then do the following.  Slider at "none"; disable reflections, shadows, pilot mesh;  enable post lighting, bloom, star burst; set to max: object detail, ground detail range, terrain detail.  Leave slider for tree detail at default.
