Title: Another Sim on market Combat Pilot
Post by: Prayer on April 26, 2025, 06:37:42 PM
Seems it could be far from coming together. Combat Pilot that is WW2 based is being worked on. Seen a interview with the developer. It is supposed to be Pacific based WW2 aim. They have their own channel on youtube, combatpilot. Who knows if this will catch any wind to take off, looks pretty interesting. Anyone have any inside tea to spill?

Ya, we've chatted about it here some time back. A lot of variables that will decide if it's a great sim. I saw a cpl interviews. Most here don't care for the strictly Pacific. Kinda of almost too narrow of a game. What will the FM be like? My guess similar to IL-2
Your basic choice for using an FM
Standard Flight Model (SFM). Defines a more data-driven means of achieving flight dynamics, in conjunction with some scripting.
Advanced Flight Model (AFM) and AFM+. An AFM uses multiple points of force application and calculation on the relevant flight surfaces. This simulates edge of envelope conditions well and avoids scripted behaviors as used in an SFM. This system also partially implements the aircraft's flight augmentation systems.
Professional Flight Model (PFM). This is generations beyond an AFM/AFM+ and is based upon: * Use a wider array of wind tunnel tests CFD methods for aerodynamics parameters calculations. * A higher level of aircraft construction details for forces calculations. This also includes such items as a realistic simulation of airflow along the airframe due to the propeller or helicopter rotor thrust. * Realistic simulation of Flight Control, CAS and Autopilot systems. * Realistic simulation of Hydraulics, Fuel, Electrical, Engine and other systems influence flight characteristics. * Unprecedented access to test data packs.
External Flight Model (EFM). The EFM uses only a part of PFM - rigid body physics and contact model. What forces and movements are applied to this rigid body from aerodynamics and any other sources except the contact forces is up to EFM developer.
We really may not know for a while as it's still got about 2-3 yrs of work to get the doors open, that I know of. New games like this expect 5 yrs. AH was a exception, they had this up and running pretty darn fast. So ya never know. I'm one turned off by strictly pacific.

It won't be like IL2, they are completely different devs. The guys at Combat Pilot sound quite ambitious, I asked them about it and said they plan to build their own physics engine to tackle the drawbacks of all existing flight models in other sims as best they can. Hopefully they can pull it off.

I guess as long as they have the drawbacks of other FMs down. Players will decide. I just can't get past PTO only. And frankly, I didn't leave AW until THE last day with EA.com, it took me a lil while to come to AH, a lil bitter, Tumor dragged me over. Prolly would take the same for any other sim. Again, it will be a while. I could get bored with PTO only.
Every sim has it strong and weak points. I'm settled in just fine here. I snivel from time to time, but that's because the game is still working.

Tumor! There's a name I haven't seen in a while.
While we're on the subject, IL2 GBs new product is Korean war. I think it's a misstep for them. I think that it is too limiting on the planeset etc and there are other sims/games out there already that have the F86 and Mig15.

They just want to start in the Pacific and branch out from there from what I gathered. Seems money is a problem for them moving forward in the now spaced out category. We have so many so many options, can see how hard it is to please a crowd.Everyone will not be happy, Even if theater was not a problem..... price plan would be next or graphics, flight model ect ect. Back when AH started people didnt have very many choices for online play.

True, a great game could get lost in the mountain of games, many not very good. Kinda like incredible local music artist never get heard.
Makes promoting AH difficult.

No more tired Eastern front, and the PTO is pretty much ignored in every other sim. I’m paying attention.

Unfortunately this i still years away. The video in the OP is over a year old. I have seem a couple other videos with some interior shots of a CV and I think an F6f. Most of these videos are just modeling with no skin/textures yet.

So they have been at it for a couple of years and they have 2 planes. They could probably get it out sooner if they didnt bother trying to set it up like DCS..... first stage super charges, second stage super chargers, only use a single system in the hydraulics at a time blah blah blah blah blah.I wont hold my breath for this

The measure of a really good game is straight forward. How fast does time fly by when playing the game. IN AH, most of the time, hours seem like minutes.

Good water is hard to do I think. Looks good in that up to the land, then not as great. Well, repeating patterns in the water kill the immersion for me too and they are there. Obviously they aren't finished with it so I'm not judging.
Repeating patterns in the landscape killed the immersion for me in Falcon 4. We're talking over 25 years ago there.

Early games/sims left objects/terrain with untextured polygons to the players imagination. I wasn't repulsed in the slightest but rather amazed at what could be done with a computer. Early attempts at texturing were mostly just plain ugly and repulsive. I preferred untextured polygons to that. We have come a long way in the last 50 years. Who knows what the next will bring.

Been a while, but I remember being really impressed with they did the water in the channel in Cliffs of Dover.
