Title: Numbers?
Post by: hazmatt on May 01, 2025, 11:55:50 AM
I saw in another thread that the numbers had dropped to 70ies in prime time but when I went to reply to ask about it I noticed the thread was locked.
I know there is a drop during the summer, however, I was under the impression that the numbers were getting close to 130 less then a month ago. Are the numberrs I have accurate? Was there a 60 drop in one month?

The numbers are down about 25% early prime time. Note though, it is closing in on school year ending. Spring is here. Lots of things happening.
The numbers will rise again because we have a base group that almost always logs in.
What makes it worse is number of players logged in but not playing.

I see. It seemed like a drastic drop in numbers even with it being summer. I guess when a couple guys quit for the summer and log out all their shade accounts it can affect the numbers lolz.
Ya, AH3 is the only game I've ever heard of that doesn't have a timeout/logout for inactivity. I know it's one of those things that has been asked for for years. I guess the right people haven't asked for it yet. :)

Numbers are dropping, but not exactly as suddenly and radically as your example seems to indicate. It's basically comparing a good day in winter (which is generally the better season for AH) to a bad day in spring.

Ah. That's good to know. I was concerned because it seemed a bit out of the ordinary. Thanks.

Maps like Oceana are killing any increase in daily # pickup. You can see very little # pick up mid day with that map, and I noticed even fall off of #s since more left without more coming in which use to be rare after 2pm or so. People log in, see very little action, or no battle, or a gang of one side by the other 2, and log out. I simply cannot understand why this map, crater, and bowlma are here when they create lame mid day gameplay that don't provide solid battles and pick up #s.
As I've said for years, if you don't build up midday #s and keep them in the game longer with good battles on the map, the #s stagnate throuout the day. Same for later into the night. The bigger the battle, the longer they stay. The further the flight with less of a battle, the quicker they log in the evening.
Primetime is about 110 and maybe 120 on Friday before FSO.
Generally mid day is about 40-60.
It sucks, but with the screen freeze issue (among others) all that's really left are the insanely addicted folks like me.

Ya, I think the buzzkill map is another one that seemed to make a bunch of people log. The numbers don't sound as dire as I thought they were. I thought it was 70 in prime time.
I really do miss the game and some of the guys but not enough to justify the cost. I would play some if there was like one 40 eny plane and tank for free but that's obviously not going to happen.
I wasn't aware of a screen freeze issue?

The many other games that actually have a limited FTP set actually have good online numbers. I know thats not ever going to happen here, this game is on a death spiral unless the owner actually wants to make an attempt to being in numbers rather leave it on autopilot until the numbers are gone

I agree 100%. I admire those who do what they can to keep it alive but there's only one person that can make real changes here.

I wonder if AcesHigh could be ported into the Unreal engine.

Short answer is Yes, 3D game assets and projects can be converted to Unreal Engine. You can import 3D models, textures, animations, and even scripts from other engines into Unreal Engine. However, some aspects like scripts might need to be rewritten or re-implemented to work within Unreal Engine's system. Any C++ might need re-written.
You still need a great MMP type server
Poly count conversion would be a question
Buy the game and servers and go at it. It would absolutely compete with IL-2, WT, and to some extent DCS.

Yesterday at around 5pm EST I saw there was only 21 people in the Main arena… I went to make some AH videos instead of logging in :uhoh

Wednesday and Thursday’s are the lightest nights. Thursday is always 70 or less usually.

No it was NDIsles2. When I logged in after 930 est there was 70+ playing
Okay so he probably could have seen the #s right after a new map reset. I know Oceana was up a couple of days and it's a very hard map to win that can stay up for days, which doesn't benefit #s. Espcially right after CraterMA which is another huge map with small daily fights. I haven't seen below 30 past 4pm.

And we're still stuck on it. This is one of the harder maps to reset, but if players leave FT/TT alone, fun fights can still be had. But it is very difficult to reset with lower numbers - it usually involves letting whichever side gets enough bases to continue rolling, if they leave FT/TT up.

The map in this video was up Tuesday, not sure if that’s what was still up yesterday or not, doubtful.

High eny and maps like this recent island map kill the will to play. The #1 issue in the game today is filling up the MA. For the sake of the paying community I hope ENY gets addressed and maps that do not promot equal action between all 3 countries should be removed until further notice.
We should not be penalized when we show up and others do not. No one should be stuck in +20 eny planes all because they want to play with their friends while their enemies enjoy real life. Rooks have showed up this week. Most nights they end up with +25 eny for 2-3 hours right in the middle of primetime. It has been a shame to watch. It creates unbalanced fights for everyone. You end up up putting the high numbers in less quality planes while the other country rides low eny ubber planes and rack up easy kills left and right.
We should not be forced with 70% downtime of flight to and from action for 30% of action. Maps where everything is spread should be temporarily locked.
Let the maps roll. Reward those who show up by not working against them please. RESPECT THE COMMUNITIES TIME INVESTMENT.

Equal the numbers per side, equals no ENY
RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE AND EQUALISE THE SIDES RATHER THAN CRYING ABOUT ENY WHEN YOU ARE GANGBANGING THEM AND BEING A HYPOCRITE ABOUT YOUR TIME INVESTMENT.

And when I do I shoot my friends down. That creates an issue you seldom had. Your speaking on things way above your pay grade.
Nobody is obligated to do what your suggesting but they are penalized if they don't. You don't offer a realistic solution that preserves the game where its at today. It actually breaks up da squads and groups who play together often. Good luck with all that.

You do? So why are you crying about ENY?
Don't be ridiculous, I've had to shoot friends down, people from; TheFew, TopGun, LCA, KN, Freebirds, C-Hawks, TheGFC, and a whole host of unaligned squadron-less friends.
They are penalised with good reason, gangbanging single cons with 10 people is the one of the fastest ways to cause someone to log off with crappy gameplay. The realistic solution is to equalise the numbers by switching sides and giving people a better chance of good gameplay via even odds.
Preserving the game as it is today as a gangfest of ENY cry babies that are too daft to switch sides and engage in friendly competition isn't going to help the game survive. Rather than the mundane repetitive; horde base land repeat (that is the leading cause of AcesHigh burnout), start encouraging switching sides, engage each other in combat. Give yourselves some bloody gameplay.
And if they cannot take being shot down and it breaks up a squad, the bond of friendship was never strong anyway.

I guess I'm confused about the "shooting friends down" I for one like fighting with friends, they usually give you the best feedback on how to improve. Is there something taboo about shooting friends down?

Since I started to see some of our squad members on the enemy side, rather than looking at the situation as "not friendly", I found it is also fun talking in our squad channel ( also with other Rooks ). Therefore, for the good and fairness of the game, I will start using auto-assign.... ZE

So you're openly admitting to talking to players on the other side in a voice channel?! The audacity :rofl :rofl :rofl :noid

I understand your concern, Banshee, but my integrity to fight fairly for the nation I'm in can assure you won't be compromised. Checkertails is a very honorable Squad (which I'm proud to be) who would never accept that dishonest behavior. I was a knight for years and now a rook for years and never shows that despicable betrayal to the game and the players. My only goal is to improve the game and give a nation with fewer numbers another fighter on their side.
Banshee, I always have you in high standard and a good player. Hope this is just a misunderstanding on my side. Please don't take it the wrong way, but I just want to clarify my position on this and also, as I already explained in another post, still have concerns about shooting down a squad member... :salute :salute ZE

I once changed sides and shot myself down to keep things even. You have to be quick to do so, though.
