The above seem to make CV groups almost redundant. Is it a numbers thing ?
I would like to see the CV as integral not just convenient to taking bases over water.

these days CVs are both easier to kill (bomber skill) and harder to defend (low #s)
TGs should be basically supporting, not main invasion force for this reason, so having cross water gv spawns (far from land base support, requiring CV proximity for air support, etc - but not parking on the beach for the above reasons!) kind of represents the invasion fleet landing.

(low #s)
??
Looking at films from the early attacks on Midway prior to the Carrier engagement Ngoumo's fleet seemed quite easily to manovre out of the B17 strikes as in turn the CV when the bombs were in the air and without a high fighter cap. Maybe we have lost the skill :headscratch:
Back in the day I remember with great nostaligia all the guns were manned, there was a fighter cap of a couple of fighters hoping for easy kills in C HOGS and there was a captain in the bridge ready to manovre.
The Captain had no sympathy for "Keep the boat still I can't take off" and the skilled pilots had full flaps deployed and could take off anyway.
It was intense :D

Some players have so much experience in sinking TGs...and it's made easier if the TG is parked too close in by sending a lemming stream of kamilancs... hell, even TU's can take them out. The BBs are a bit tougher.
The defensive (cap) #s are not there - very few willing to cap/defend the TG compared to past.
On the flip side, if a TG can get into decent visual range of a base, it can 100% take out all hangars, ords, dar, and wf the town (and then maybe can get an lvt in for a take - not easy.)

Sorry I added while you were posting.

CVs don't matter when they are sent to the same exact spot every hour on thehpour.
