Title: Haircut
Post by: xanax on August 11, 2025, 01:55:53 AM
My hair has turned shockingly white since my dad was killed last October. It was dark gray prior. It turns out, the law is going to treat the perpetrator of his and his wife's murder accordingly and appropriately so I can rest a bit easier.
I'm going in tomorrow for a high and tight haircut consisting of maybe a 0.5 inch on top and maybe 0.25 inches remaining on the sides haircut. Talk me out of it.

I'd like to look like a recently retired 58 year-old man again who wasn't struck by lightning or a man who stuck his finger on a high voltage line. Seriously, my hair went from black/gray to Colonel Sanders white in a few months time. Nothing worse than a dude with white, curly hair that can be chewed in the front while the back reaches his shoulders. I look like a hipster-doofus, ancient surfer dweeb who sleeps in a dumpster behind the Tommy Bahama outlet on Redondo.

I'm thinking high and tight with some grey dye for age appropriateness. Talk me out of it.

I'm keeping the cargo shorts with flip-flops and bowling shirt attire. I wore hospital pharmacy scrubs every day for 34 years so comfort has become mandatory. I hope to never wear long pants again....none of you invite me to funerals or weddings please. Scrubs are amazingly comfortable but not a good look on the driving range or at the mall.

When my hair gets that long I shriek and run and get a bowl and my clippers!

Dad gave my brother and I crew cuts until I was 12 years old and his job had us move to Tynemouth England back in the early 70's..

As there were "skinhead" gangs in England back then we were allowed to grow a regular doo...

If your hair is that white, aren't you going to look bald if you get it cut that short?

Condolences for Dad and his wife!!
No talking out of it from me.  If you feel that’s the way to go, try it. If not happy let it grow out some and maybe by then you’ll have a different idea in mind.

No. 3 for me for the last 17 years. Do it myself and have saved thousands.

First and foremost I wanna say I'm so sorry for your tragic loss. I don't even want to imagine what's that like to go through.
I joined the USMC in 83 and have been high and tight since then...except for the goat tee I've had for 20 years. It was long enough to braid. Hair bugs the hell out of me. I got a urge this morning, before I read your post, and just cut it clean off. Karma dude  :uhoh
Shorts and flipflops is all I wear in summer and rarely wear a shirt anymore unless I go to town. I'm pretty much a redneck beach bum without the beach.

I remember cutting over 1ft off the first time. Was also glad I did it. Still considered a lil long but it is more better

I do a no. 3 all over then have some tapered clips for the sides. Takes me about 10 minutes and I'm good for 2-3 weeks. If there is an occasion I'll have my wife "edge" the back.

Thanks, fellas. The hairectomy surgery is scheduled at 10:00 today with the barber down the road. Getting one of those fancy straight razor shaves with all the hot towels, liniments and whatnots as well.

This morning is the last time I get to see the white Ronald McDonald clown hairdo in the mirror.

I'm having them rub in some age-appropriate color dye to alleviate the chance of my head looking like the US capital building dome. I'm hoping the hair stops coming out white.

Fresh starts.

Pretty sure that would be a first. Maybe not a first but rare.

That fast is stress. Stress is toxic poison to the body, it can cause a lot to go bad. I’ve suffered some health setbacks over similar stress. Ya gotta take more than usual care of yourself. Eat well, keep negative away, however ridiculous. Don’t allow someone or something compound what you’re dealing with. Get it gone.

Playing the game (or doing similar) will take your mind off it and give your mind a break.

Some know what I’ve been through, PM me anytime.

HTs issues may have been due to stress he experienced. One seems to follow the other.

I was reading on the AI tuned Google contraption that hair turned white from stress or other similar factors can revert back but I'm sure it's unlikely. Dye is cheap, maybe I'll lean into the "Ronald McDonald" or the "Stalin" quiff at some point.

Nutrafol deals with hair due to stress. But it does help health over stress.

Yup, riding my mountain bike, doing some fishing and hiking have alleviated a bunch of stress. With all the lawyer, law stuff and estate crap mostly taken care of, things are infinetly better.
I play some but while the weather is dry I like being out of doors. Rain season starts soon enough.

doing some fishing

As a kid I remember being told one time when fishing and not catching anything that: "you don't go fishing to catch fish" I think they meant something about peace and solitude. Being a kid I figured if we didn't go fishing to catch fish that we must be going fishing to feed the mosquitos.

Sorry about your Dad & his Wife dude.  Really am.

I got my hair cut about 4 times since I retired from the military in 2007, never shorter than just below my shoulders.  I've been steadily losing hair the whole time, on top, but keeping it tied back most of the time hid it well.  Then in the last year, wow... hair loss went into overdrive.  I tried cutting it fairly short on the sides and keeping it combed straight back for a couple months... until I caught a side view of myself with another mirror.  I looked like that dork trying to hide his bald by going around with a whisp of grey/brown smoke hanging just over his skull.

Buzz cut it the next day.  F'it, it was meant to be.

It seems like my head lost 5lbs of hair, a couple bird nests and I think a 4mm Allen wrench that I lost was in there. I went with AKIrons numbers and had them all individually cut at 2mm on the sides and 3mm up top. Feels good. It kinda looks like I'm wearing a white swimming cap. I ought to dye it black and roll with it or paint "USA waterpolo" onto it.

I try not to glance in mirrors often. "Who the Hell is that old bastard giving me the side eye?"

I'd post a photo but I haven't been able to find a filter that makes me look handsome. They all seem to think I'm a farm animal! So much for AI being smart...

My wife has cut my hair for years. The first time she was a bit nervous. I told her it grows back and to have fun. She did a great job and now can cut it really quickly.
