No complaint because this happens to all countries. Just wondering if there could be a bit of an adjustment.
Last night the bish and knits were hitting the rooks hard. It was exciting play most of the time. So, realistically the rooks were outnumbered 2 to 1.
The knits were a few players short of the rooks andd bish with the Rooks having the highest number by a couple. So auto-swap kicked in making the Rook side weaker while increasing the outnumbered 2 to 1 even more. This gets much worse when eny comes into play.
The two countries against one is quite common. Is the game capable of recognizing a two country against one attack? If it can, can auto swap, and ENY bee tuned to that situation?
-
I agree, I wish HTC could "fine tune" things. Im sure its possible, it just code after all.
On the other hand, last night was odd anyway. I know the bish were defending in the south against the rooks and finally started hitting 27 and white flagged it a few times but could never take it. Knights were coming off the big island pushing towards the Rooks as well. I know a few of us moved up north to fight Knights but the only takers left, one guy flew around from sector to sector for a fuel run but I never got an ID on him. Just a crappy night for flying.
-
The highest rank goes to country with the lowest numbers until numbers level out. :bolt:

Good points — I’ve noticed similar situations. The auto-swap and ENY system works fine in straight 1v1 balance, but once you’ve got two factions piling on a single side, it really throws things off. It would be great if the game could detect those 2v1 scenarios and adjust the mechanics accordingly, instead of punishing the already outnumbered side even more.
-
The two countries against one shifted twice last night. The knits just about had nothing left when I signed off.
The simplest measure to back off auto-swap and eny would be the decline of a single country as compared to the other two countries.. As an example slow or stop auto-swap, and eny if a country drops below 60% bases. Last night the knits had only 50% bases left. I have seen countries drop below 40% on bad nights.

Shout out to Bish and Rooks, who were ganging knits oretty hard. As soon as I pointed out knits logging they dragged up and went a fought each ither.
So kudos for that :salute

Countries need to do more teaming up.

1 of probably 15 examples I have
Tonight, typical lamer full country horde gang bang on Knits,..fighting with one guy one min, I'm fighting him on a opposing gang bang side the next minute. I'd hate to think players are that seriously lamer to switch to a horde.
I've brought up why auto-switch doesn't work as it should with low numbers a full country hording.
With higher numbers this would work better on breaking total country hording gang bangs. But the players have AH caught up in a catch 22. Ya need the numbers help with hording gang bang nonsense, but the hording crap keeps numbers lower, and the lower the numbers...more hording, the less numbers, more logging. Making the game suck. You will not get to critical mass at this pace. And you need critical mass and above to save it.
We'll repeat this convo with all doing it, and "ya that's messed up" not much changes, and recycle. I call that a brick wall.
Seriously stick a fork in it.
It's not the game, it's the players who excuses it all away and the game with it
-
Yep, tonight was ridiculous.
Last time I checked the roster it showed 57 Bish, 26 Knights, and 28 Rooks.
I upped to try and help with the Bish horde that was rolling bases, and logged after two sorties. That's because I counted 15 fighters and who knows how many GV's attacking the base I was trying to help defend. Lazer and toddbobe and others tried to up and defend, but with a swarm like that, why even bother?
Sure, perk planes are cheaper for the low numbered side(s), but quantity takes on a quality of it's own, and aside from high speed slashing attacks on the fighters, there wasn't much that can be done.
Take out their ords........great idea, however HT recently upped the ord required to do that. Easy thing to do when you have 15 or more fighters and bombers hitting a base. Trying it solo, knowing you're gonna be outnumbered while you make your run.......why bother?
I wish the perk multiplier and ENY would also affect the hardness of structures, make the horde have to work harder to take stuff down, make it easier for the low numbered country or countries to take down ords or VH or troops to slow things down.
I know some players think it's really a war.....just a game, folks. My hat is off to the Bish tonight........man, when they horde, they HORDE!
Sometimes I wonder if those who just have to fly in a horde would be the same people who'd cheer on the winning team if they put a huge number of players on the field while the losing team had barely enough to take the field or court.................myself, I like the challenge and competition......seems they want to take their bases and "win the war" no matter what it takes or how they do it. But...........to me it's still a game and not a real war, so we clearly don't think alike.
Thinking maybe it's time for me to step away for a while. Between the hording and invisible GV's shooting me down because they see me while I can't see them............just not a lot of fun lately.
-
These lg squads that bond and create a 52 player horde against 5-7 nits is absolutely ridiculous BS. Don't you dare talk about numbers.
At that rate the only way is down. It has absolutely destroyed game play....especially when the other side is ganging too. And even deeper into the abyss of nonsense they laugh about it.
seriously, stick a fork in it.
Anymore, the only way to combat it is to starv them out,... do not fight them, do not give them any kills,... make it as miserably boring for them as possible. It doesn't matter, play has already been flushed.
<SMH>
I'll fly the MA when it's not baby seal dweeb fest, and events. You have ZERO chance of growing the base with that, none.
-
Man it sure shows these guys rely on the hoard too... their flying is terrible.
My advice to you folks that play this every night in this type of situation, just log off. Let these guys run it into the ground. If flying in a mob like that is more important to these guys, than the overall health of the game... let them have it. They will eventually have to switch sides to shoot eachother, or their only targets will be toolsheds.
On the other hand, for flying solo most of the night in those odds, handed quite a few of them their rear ends. With a lot of rust built up.
-
Problem is the time it takes to fly from an adjacent base in an attempt to even fight the horde...who has time for that..
Maybe each base should have 2 or 3 airfields to up from to protect that bases town...
Somewhere about 1/2 or 1/4 the distance to where the closest base is usually set...
Too bad the game has the same boring objective...win the map by any means possible..

Not even sure limiting bases to 12 planes can help this mass dweebery.
They aren’t winning the map, they are winning the game itself, because they will be the only ones left. One way or another, starving them out is about the only way. Make the game suck for them like they do others. Give them nothing to kill but stationary objects.
At least AKs switch countries every month and do solo missions with their own squad and not whole country hordes.
I’m not going to “get over it”, I’m logging off.

Hey, look in the bright side, you may get your two country game without HT touching anything. Of ciurse you’ll lise 1/3 of your base, but hey,…success!!!

Hording. I always break guys balls about it in a fun way. Especially when I'm flying for a country in the mornings when it's literally 25 v 5 at times. But, it is what it is. Where I see the drawback is when new guys ( some just callsign changes) insist on ramming or HOing you when you choose to fly into the fray. They have 10 fighters over your base against your 1 big slow mossie ( and yes, the 262 is fun ) and it's not only a waste of time flying over but speaks to their lack of skills. You see the same pilots on later in the afternoon/evening without the horde getting smacked around with no skills most of their sorties. They'll never improve unless they go up against others 1 v1 or without just ramming. ( note: I do appreciate the AKs for swapping countries monthly and doing the missions they do. I wish other squads would do that.) For those who have always been a Bish, Knight or Rook and act like it's a mortal sin to change for the better of the game. Even daily/monthly. Get over yourselves. They flight hours you accrue in the the horde with nothing to shoot at or vulching 1 guy over and over are killing your skills as fast as the game interest is dying. Me personally, I enjoy going up against pilots like Haggerty, J0KER, Eagler, etc...... I may get it handed to me and I should probably learn how to fly anything faster than a mossie, but I learn and try to get better. Sometimes I actually get a kill. If you are going to insist on hording. Do everyone a favor..............STOP HOing the 1 guy trying to defend and STOP speading out to 10 different bases at once. Stay together at 1 base....... at least it gives us a sporting chance to kill 1 of you before the other 9 jump in.

They dont want to get better. They want to game the game and chase everyone away like the cowards they are trying to kill AH.
Thats right I said it.

I told knits last night, you can’t beat them with at 52 vs 6-8, take the loss, drag up and band together somewhere else. They gonna take it either way, why waste resources. Starve em out.
They gonna roll it either way. At least you’ll get a better fight on a single front while the others shoot beer cans.

STOP HOing
I'm kinda surprised anybody would HO a mossie. lolz
I started flying the mossie because of the whoers. Anybody that looked like they were thinking about Hoing would get it in the face. It seemed that it cut down on attempted HOs.

Im usually taking the offender with me when I die.......... :)

Last night was alot of fun, autoswitch kept me busy defending against hordes. Going into battle with 1 or 2 other guys against 10 was a blast and we were generally very successful at stopping the hordes. Unfortunately it can get hard to recruit a GVer to stop the m3 spam that comes with it, so eventually you usually lose. One tank can go a long way in preventing a horde from winning, but you need those 1-3 plane to keep the bomb****s honest to keep that tank alive too.
-
Just another idea. Would it possible to limit a countries base capture to 20% or 20% + 1 per country? That way if one country gets pounded by both sides they can survive.
Hordes are part of the game. Been in hoards and been horded. Both can be fun.
I do agree the up in ammo bunker damage has hurt more than it helped. What about lowering the damage needed for destruction but set the down time to a constant 15 minutes like a VH or fighter hanger?

The problem is some prefer settings playing wack o mole because they don’t want to change their behavior. Sooner or later they find a work around requiring yet another tweak.
If this continues and critical mass is not an average during winter, count your days. Numbers breed numbers, low numbers breed low numbers too. If masses actions are making players log off its just a spiral. Laugh now, wale latter
-
I will confess, I have been trying to get Hitech to limit the percentages that a country can take for several months now. :rock
-
Everyone has gotten so good at taking bases that 2 people can roll a base in one sortie if there is no opposition. We upped the hardness of ords for what reason? Its rare for people to pork bases these days, but if you are getting horded that makes it harder to slow them down. It would be nice if towns were setup in a manner that a single set of bombers can't WF it in one pass. I'd venture to say it would be beneficial if a single set of bombers cant WF a base no matter how well it drops in multiple passes...save the heavy stuff like Lancs and B29s. We are min/maxing our base captures and our ability to sneak them in seconds kind of defeats the build up of any fight. Even without re-designing towns we can up the hardness of the buildings to prevent them from dropping so easy. I think limiting the amount a team can take from another is a bad idea, many maps have bases beyond the 20% that help with keeping those 20% a great deal, if you are forced to stop at 20% then you'll often leave easy counter attack avenues for the enemy.
-
Reduce the length of the down time for town buildings to 15 minutes and increase the damage needed to all structures must be down.
-
How about some players just stop being dweebles?
These bases settings make no difference with a 25-50 player horde. Unless its indestructible its coming down.
And its not even a land grab issue, its things like throwing 52 at 6-8 is Ftardsville. They aren’t logging because land was taken, they log because they are fed up with 5 or 10-1 odds. Yus guys are walking around the point.
Hiw about just stop being pathetic?
-

resup spam is bad enough without lowered downtimes
-
Also can be adjusted accordingly.
-
None of that will stop 5 or 10 - 1. None of it, the answer is on the players. That setting does not exist, nir can it.
Anything but change yourselves, right?
Stop avoiding it or kiss it good bye.
This denial is part of the problem.
I say just ignore the red flags, play innocent, and open the drain.
-
The need is to balance the game between air and GV as well as to balance offense and defense.
-
The need is to balance the game between air and GV as well as to balance offense and defense.
I agree 100%.
Dunno how much would be involved, but either make the GV icons visible at like 3K, or reduce the aircraft icons down to 1K when GV’s are looking at enemy planes. They were 6K way back when, and Inagree it was too much, but the pendulum swung the other way when people whined about their tanks getting bombed, and I watched and listened to a few squads when they did they had enough…..and poof, they left the game.
Balance is the key.

The problem is the constantly changing numbers and who is fighting who. Changing one setting may work with 100 players all fighting on 3 fronts, but those same changes wont work when its 2 teams vs 1, and if you change something to work for a 2 vs 1 setup then it may not work in a lower number situation. Its all just too fluid. With much higher numbers things seem to even out on their own better, or you just dont notice these issues being more busy/active in the action.
A fix is to build a "watch dog" program that watches a number of parameters such as ganging one side, hording, side switchers, ENY of a team getting ganged, and so on and have it auto adjust these things as needed. A big horde is hitting a front, watch dog sees it, adjusts how much damage a town building takes to drop , and displays a system message " Knight town building hardness has been increased 10% on the Bish front." Which like ENY would make it harder to drop the buildings, but if the horde breaks up Watch Dog would see that and return the hardness to normal levels with a new message. That way the fixes are as fluid as the arena. Would Hitech want to invest that kind of time? Dont know.
Id love to see the old AH2 towns added to the maps in a random way, but I think the town are "part" of the compiled map so you couldnt change them on the fly. Only way I think it could work would be to make 5-6 copies of a map, change the towns out and and recompile it. Then when the war was won and that map came up next you could set a randomizes to pick one of the 5-6 maps and present it as the new map. This way maps would have surprise town setup....until everyone memorized them  Just another little "spark" to keep things interesting.
I think the old Dot dar should be brought back. This "know all" radar does cause a lot of "ganging". Also the GV site difference could be closed up a couple hundred. After all a stopped vehicle is nearly invisible as is, gives you a chance to spot them better while they are moving.
On the other hand almost changes are going to cause issues and that would lead to more changes, or just more complaints.

I was gonna go there
A setting for sleazy dirty sheep horde would crater in normal play when heads aren’t up butts. Wack-a-mole settings are basis for firing.

How is autoswap enabled?
-
Any game that allows people to make a choice, someone is not going to be happy. The absolute only way to fix it is if we have no choice and play where the game puts up, in what the game puts us.
Almost everyone would be unhappy then. It is not the game, it is human nature.
-
How is autoswap enabled?
Go online, bring up the clipboard, select O'Club, select Change Country, check Automatically Select Smallest Country.

I've said this from the get go, but guys say they like flying with their buddies. But if they had true buddies it wouldn't be a problem. I suspect the real reason is 75% of the people in this game want protection from their dozen or so wingmen every flight. It's all about them and not the game they care about.
-
I somewhat agree with last few post.
I think if the masses gad a guide to whats too much they can try to follow it. Unwritten rule of sorts.
30 player hirde could gave been 3 good battles. Each side, 10+10=20, is a good battle.
If you’re taking 20 to get a base you’re probably going overboard a bit.
Ya don’t need 4 large sqds to equal 30-50. 50 could be 5 battles across the map.
If you’re throwing 20 at 5 defenders its just being dweebs.
Say 90 logged on, somewhat equal sides. 10 per side, thats 4-5 20 player battles across the whole map. Instead of 2 countries with 20-30 player hordes beating down one country split in two, at 30-15 or less odds, at best. It gets worse when that banged country logs down to 15. Now you’re at 30-7 odds. Thats messed up.
Consider 10 as a to battle a base, thats one bar.
The only way I see to battle these massive hordes ruining the game is bases 2 sectors apart 12 plane limit per base. That would seriously blow.
Huge hordes are a blast and healthy UF they were somewhat equal sides.

I agree. But I think this gameplay is a result of players playing for yeaaaaaaars and has concentrated to the point that each side has gathered a personal vendetta towards each-other. I can log on any prime time and I can tell who (in red) is flying and what to expect from that player just by looking at the map. Some are just over competitive and do NOT like to see their name in lights unless its attached to landing kills. It is just the way the game evolved. Some like Oldman/Trog show great sportsmanship if you give them a good/fair fight even if they loose and yet others could care less and would rather use their LAs as battering rams to get you in the tower.
-
I know change does not come easy. If no change is made I can live with that.
Iracing runs about 17000 online every hour, everyday as an example. It cost less than AH per month but lots of members. Undergoes change every 3 months to improve the simulation-game. Very large staff where I think Hitec is all the AH staff.
-
Good luck to all, I have said all I need to say.
-
Tonight was basically fair fights across the map. 110 online last time I looked, 107 at 10pm CT.. hitting critical mass.
Just PLEASE keep the mass hordes (30-50) down. It's a much better game.
Knits don't really have any large squads, it's like nomads.
-
Had another one of those nights. Rooks were pinned in a conner when I logged on. I think this time the Rooks contributed to the problem by engaging the wrong country early in prime time. These things happen on all countries.
Why would you want 25% of another countries bases anyway?

25% is relative to the number of total bases. The number of bases between 20% and 25% could be as little as zero.

Interesting.... rook bases are generally not maintained as well. That makes selling them a chore and the profits are less. I agree, why have 25% of their bases?
:rofl

Well to each their own I guess, doesn't help with low numbers tho. Otherwise I just go to source bases. Usually don't come home, so wheels are needless.
My take is SA must start to fall off. Always relying on other eyes, check 6 calls. SO that MAY be why they may have a hard time alone. It's really starting to appear to be a dependent crutch. <shrug> I'll go 5-1, usually do. I just see it as a game drawback for retaining players. Probably nothing more discouraging than being new or rusty and wiped out every flight by gangs, or just great pilets. Too hard to get over the hump. I have doubts anyone new to sims would ever get there in AH without formal training. Ya really have to be up to par to even enter the MA.
Full country hordes of 2-3 bars is just ridiculous over-kill. Not in the old days but certainly now. I fail to imagine fun in no true resistance. For me, the entire reason to attack a base to start fights, kick the bee hive. 15 or 30 vs 6. <smh> <shrug> it is what it is.

Sometimes I think HTC should just auto switch countries at every map rotation. At every reset then they just take on a different country name (Rooks are now called Bish, Bish are now called Knights are now Rook after every map rotation) I have always wondered how that would affect game play as now we have such die hard country loyalists that practically have their chess pieces tattooed on their forehead they play so much you would think it was their full time jobs.
Not saying to separate teams, it just means you would be called a different chess piece after each map.

I dont think the "names" are all that important, I think its the players people are flying with. Im part of a pretty big squad (Sik Puppies) and many of us are still active. We run a mission and others know us and join in and before you know it we have a horde. Heck some nights our squad makes up a third of the Bish on line. Call us rooks, it doesnt matter. We are the Pups and we work well together and others like to join in with us because we get things done.
The issue is we as a big squad, and any other squad with decent numbers should have to evolve with the game. In the old days 15-20 guys together wasnt even a quarter of the team, but these day its closer to half of a team. 15-20 guys couldnt be a horde in the old days, but today its an overwhelming force. Tactics need to change. If a squad of 6 guys on the Bish sees the bish fighting the Rooks with anything close to equal numbers that squad should take it upon themselves to hit the Knights front instead of adding to the fight on the Rook front and causing an over load. The same goes for our squad. Some nights we ARE the horde, we should switch tactics and split our force and hit both fronts. I think it would be more fun, not only for ourselves, but for the other teams as well.
Will tactics change? I dont know. It is hard to turn the group to the other side when they get rolling. I know we are getting better at not taking 30-40% of a teams bases, unlike some others  but taking it upon ourselves to regulate keeping the sides/fights even/fun, could be asking a bit much, but I think that is what is needed to evolve with the game.

You are talking prime time numbers and our usual problem players face is 2 vs 1 pile up on a country. I have to say EVERYONE goes through this every once in a while. I think all depends on base and country layout that is more in tune to why both sides bash 1 side.
What I am talking about is the usual la de dah crap that happens in the early mornings where 1 side (Bish) outnumber both sides X2 combined. This has nothing to do with game metrics but everything to do with player choice and an every day occurrence. Doesnt bother me as I am usually on at night and if I do log during the morning hours, I will expect to face stupid numbers but it can be sometimes fun as most in the morning are just very easy kills.

Winning the war perks is a big factor. That is obvious when 20 bishops (of the 22) don’t log back in after receiving perks.

I always find this excuse funny. Why would they be hunting perks? If the group that is doing this is most often under ENY restrictions they never get a chance to use perks. :D

MmmmmMmm coffee.... oh never mind. :D
-
Fugi is right. Most of our players including my myself have perks in the multiple thousands anyway.

Don't they lose thier perks when they change to a different handle?

Yes if you change handles it wipes your perks. Which is dumb.
-
It doesn’t make sense until you get players who change their name every day with malicious intent or just mocking the option. IMO Removing the score discourages it. We all know someone who would or did do that.

There are very few that change their names that often. Most that do are irrelevant :aok

Last night was one of those AH nights that was high in exciting play. The Rooks were mere seconds away from winning the map. My hats off to the knits and bish for stopping us. Even though we did not win the map it was a lot of good, hard, team play none the less. Oh so close.
That is what makes AH so much fun when hours of fighting gets down to a few seconds.

Yes it was fun night. I logged on and the Bish were getting hit from both side. Puppies decided to try and work the Rooks side and we almost got one of our bases back but where held off. We switched back to the Knight front and slowed their attack by grabbing a couple bases quickly. The rooks got A7 by the skin of about 2 seconds. Last troop made it in with less than 2 seconds of a building popping to clear the white flag.
The Knights had lost a couple bases down south as the Rooks were going for the win so the Puppies switched fronts again a took A8 back from the Rooks dropping them to 17% of our bases. We pushed for another one but by then players were logging off on all teams. So we didnt get any more base, but neither did the Rooks and the battles goes on.
Fun night!
