Title: Franz Götz's Dora
Post by: Devil 505 on October 02, 2025, 07:56:50 PM
This was intended to be an adoption of Edbert's original skin, but adoptions are broken at the moment and I want to be sure this gets in game for October's scenario. I'll eventually replace Edbert's skin with another JG 26 Dora.

Fw190D-13 flown by Franz Götz, Kommodore of JG 26 in April 1945. Götz's mount featured a unique camouflage pattern with splotches of light and dark greens over gray. The black and white tail band of JG 26 had it's top over-painted with the light green. Götz also applied the Ace of Spades emblem of JG 53 under the canopy. Götz had been in JG 53 since the beginning of the war up until February 1945, when he was appointed Kommodore of JG 26, replacing Josef Priller. He would score 7 of his 63 total victories while in JG 26. Götz survived the war and served in the post-war Bundeswehr.

The D-13 was the most advanced Dora model produced, equipped with a variant of the Jumo 213 engine used in the Ta 152 and three 20mm cannons. Götz's aircraft,Werknummer 836017, was captured by Allied forces at the Flensburg airfield the the end of the war. It was one of the few Doras kept by the Allies for flight testing. It and a D-9 were to be displayed in museums in the US after completion of the testing, but unknown at the time, their wings were swapped. It wasn't until the 1990's that this error was discovered and in the early 2000's both planes were restored with their original wings returned. Götz's "Yellow 10" now resides at the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum in Everett, WA.
