Most realistic depiction of basic training I’ve seen. Granted there were a lot of things that never would’ve happened in real life, but still. I went to army basic in 91 and it surprised me how similar USMC boot camp was to army basic. Some things were ridiculous, it’s tv after all, but quiet a few things we’re exactly as I remembered.

I watched for 10 minutes. Up to the part where the boy said he was gay.

watched the whole thing. I went though boot in early 93s, navy not marines but a lot of overlap.
Same methods, same progres, same goals being achieved. Same metamorphoses.
I served with gay people, despite "don't ask don't tell" being in effect. Many of them made finer shipmates then quite few "streight" folks.
Somehow who and how they diddled someone after hours didn't affect their professionalism in my experience.
as for series, it shows boot camp in quite realistic fashion. Gay expierience is an additional challenge, new for me, but it is presented tastefully. Shows dilemas, various roads, decisions and personal development. While i'm not a target audience, i enjoyed it. And explaining the slang and bootcamp roles to the wife was an added bonus.

Yes, because watching a movie about gays turns you gay.
Just like watching movie about women turns you into woman, or superhero if you watch a right one.
Now go fly aces high, it will turn you into a pilot...
You'd be funny if you weren't so sad.
