This is how stupid things have gotten.
A pack of cigs in IN is $10.40 now.
Or
You can buy a $60 cig packer, a bag of tobaco and cig tubes for $10, and make your own for 75 cents per pack. Same exact product.
1.5 cartons for $10 to pack your own
1 pack for $10.40 at a store
($104 per carton)

Now reason out why that is...

Now reason out why that is...
Because its all taxes on a pack.
A bag and tubes is just normal sales tax
Brilliance
Edit: a pack in Chicago is $18, or 75cents to pack your own

you almost got it.
-
Is it an attempt to get people stop smoking by making it more expensive? Lazy people won't take the time to roll their cigarettes.
-

I don’t need to get it
I passed 4th grade math

True enough
Only takes 5 min to make a pack
I don’t promote smoking, even tho I do.
Just sayin (tm Pasha)

Even more stupid
Go for a physical with my new doctor
“ well, your blood flow sounds excellent, lungs sound real good, …I think your lungs were just made for smoking.”
<blank stare>
ok you’re fired, even I’m not that stupid. Never went back.
He makes a lot more money if I get cancer
Stupid is the new fad

Gave up smoking over 30 years ago because I was terrified of lung cancer. Lost a friend to small cell lung cancer and I saw the pain she went through the last few months. Scary.
-
My habit is fading now that I’m retired.
It really cranked up when you could smoke inside
Being on stage for concerts, the adrenaline was so hot I’d rip through 1 pack in one concert time 90-180 min. Sick. Never realized until it was over and a pack was empty I was 2-3 packs a day. Same thing when I was programming, prolly didn’t actually smoke half of them.
Down to .5-1 now. No effort its just fading.
-
The gubmit makes billions in tax revenues from cigarettes, you really think they’re eager for smoking to go away? We’re going to make vices go away by earning money from their trade. Yeah that’s the ticket
-
The more they tax this. The higher the crime rate in stealing.

Oh ya, robbin cig stores is a thing.
Used to stand outside for a cig at work in Chitcago. During one cig 5 people on the sidewalk would ask for one. Leave them in view in your car, they would absolutely break that window to get em.
Its more of a revenue stream than getting people to quit. If everyone quit the state gov would lose that tax revenue, that they probably embezzle. Its a medical revenue stream too. Too many fingers in the pie for them to actually want you to quit. IMO
-
Good thing they weren't successful getting rid of fossil fuels or they would need to sell/tax more cigarettes.
-
No one I know smokes cigarettes these days...
Good luck kicking it Animl-AW :aok

Smoked twenty years, took chantix three times before it finally worked. I haven’t had a cigarette in 12 years.
-
I got colon cancer. The Dr. said colon cancer is closely associated with smoking. I don't smoke any more. I used Chantix and another drug to kick the habit. I have never felt better! When I smoked nothing got done. After I quit, my dishes are done, yard mowed, toilets clean, laundry done, bed made, and the list goes on. One person joked that I replaced smoking with OCD. Another pointed out that smoking is OCD. If you smoke you are not well though, you may think you are.
Last thing, Colon Cancer is not fun!

Cigarettes cost me a bladder and I'm on oxygen now.

I've been told lungs will heal. Hang in there.

Yeah the Snake Oil salesmen on Facebook have ALL kinds of stuff that cures anything. :devil
-
If you're smoking weed, beware screens.
A stainless screen will become hexzavalent chromium and you don't want that in your lungs.
-
I quit smoking for 4.5 years, it was great and all, but then I started living too long. Started again.
-
Sad fact is one will never quit unless they come to terms that they want to quit.
I have smoked for 30 years and though during that time, if I was able to be lazy and take a magic pill to cure my cravings, I probably would of went along with it but never made a serious effort to quit during that time.
I quit for 2 years from 2016-2018 then made the mistake of having special occasion cigars then go back to full blown usage. I quit again for about a year and a half ago and still smoke free. I have come to terms that its just not an option anymore. I suffer from high BP , extreme sleep apnea (I stopped breathing about 120 times per hour in my sleep). Happy to say that even when surrounded by smokers, I have no urge to go back and yes, I look and feel much better.

So sorry to here this.
The thread is about pricing insanity, not promoting smoking

Quit about 30 years ago. Best thing I ever did.
Cold turkey worked for me after I realized I need to watch for brain lies like, "I can just smoke one to make me feel better."

Yeppers. On the other hand, I'm not going to tell anyone to stop smoking.
I don't believe the idea of increasing cigarette prices is to stop smoking. If that is true, then the governments must want us to quit working.
