My first guess is Yak-11. I'll actually have to go look it up though (I know I have pics) but can't be sure of the designation. I think it's the two seat trainer version.

Close, Sundog! Very close. But, no. When this aircraft landed at our field the tower called me up and said, "Come see the Yak!" It's not a Yak, though.

Here's another shot of it.  :D

AND, not that it will do you much good for identification purposes, but here is a shot of the front seat. You can see it has been modified for use in the U.S. with the addition of english standard gauges, and a GPS, etc.

This one is on the net. Not this plane (until now), but the type. The U.S. started importing them and they are being sold unassembled for around $60k.

In fact, they are mentioned on a well known Yak site.

I'm almost certain it's a Chinese Nanchang CJ-6. Not sure which variant though.

Here's an even nicer cockpit...

Solas, that jet is a Lockheed T33. It evolved from the F80 Shooting Star.

Post by: SOLAS on July 25, 2001, 09:00:00 AM
thanks , t 33 stands in the picture name but i was dont knowing that this is a lockheed. i raise in the former democratic republic and the company above my head was outnumbered by mig 21 , mig 23 and in the late 80s some mig 29. also much an 2 ´doppeldecker´ . and staga you are right with the properties but i am a lazy bone. your picture from this 4 engine prop plane is a miracle for me , its a german long range recon plane? or a british bomber?
please tell me i surrender , maybe i am to young. but anyway the next plane looks really sad. as i see the picture i notice a teardrop in my left eye.

Nope, It's B-17F.

Quote
There was one place where the B-17 did fly paying passengers--Sweden. During the war, sixty-eight B-17s flying over Germany had been forced to divert to Sweden when their crews found that they were unable to return to England. Since Sweden was neutral, these planes had to be interned and their crews sent to camps. A program was worked out in late 1944, in which the crews and other interned Americans were allowed to return to England. In exchange, the US government agreed to let Sweden "purchase" nine of the interned Fortresses for $1.00.

Swedish authorities converted seven of these planes into commercial transports for the SAAB airline, stripping them of their military equipment and installing airline-type seating. The nose windows were removed and the length of the nose was increased in order to make room for more passengers. These B-17 airliners were operated for several postwar years before being replaced by more conventional airliners.

The following is a list of interned B-17s converted as commercial transports in Sweden:

Swedish reg. Designation USAAF Serials

SE-BAK______B-17F-115-BO____42-30661

Man, my first guess was a B17, but the nose looked way too long to me. The thing that made me believe it was the B17 was the landing gear and engine nacelles.

Oh well, I figured you'd post some wierd off the wall only seen once before airplane rather than a B17. ;-)

I was really surprised too when I saw a story about those afterward converted B-17 bombers. Swedes got also very interesting other planes like J-21 and more neat types were in the drawingboards but because "JetTime" had already begun those Prop-Planes never saw daylight.

Is the J-21 that push prop plane that was also given a jet engine later on? Or am I thinking of a different plane (not the Shinden)?

That same plane.
Not sure but it might be only plane with such a history:
First it was engined with DB605 and later same frame-construction was converted to accept DeHavilland Goblin jet (same type as in DH Vampires).
