Being different than most folks regarding most things, I am curious regarding the following.
When each of you roll down the runway, what do you consider to be your main objective for the sortie experience (not specific to mission objectives ie. jabo, bombing, etc.).
Do you want to land the sortie or perhaps achieve a goal of X number of kills, or just GO OFF and fight like a wild dog (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

It depends.
Some nights I pretend I am a real pilot. I put on my leather helmet and goggles, point a high powered fan at my face, and I try to survive at all costs.
Some nights I drive tanks.
Some nights I go to vulched airfields and drive M16's.
Some nights I do whatever it takes to take fields and hurt the enemy's facilities. I'll fly escorts, jabos, BUFFs, goons, tanks, halftracks, you name it. On those nights, I don't worry about dying, just helping my country.

My main goal is to try to be of impact to the cause of the Knight war waging on. First I look at map, and decide what strategically would help the Knights out, then I choose a A/C or vehicle that will help to accomplish this goal.
That's 90% of the time. 10% I just like to fly around, scrap, and try to live to get home again.

To knock down a couple of b17s in my single cannon G10...he he...

"or just GO OFF and fight like a wild dog "
That describes my M.O. most often. Although I will try and participate in a field capture if the enemy is contesting the battle decently. Otherwise it's take off, dogfight, try to get kills before being killed. Landing usually doesn't enter my mind unless I find the enemy contacts are all gone for whatever reason and my option is to auger or land.
On squad nights I am the water boy for the squad so whatever they says goes on that night (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

My sortie is based on:
A. What are my squadies up to.
B. What will help Rookland.
C. What's gonna be the most fun.
Not necessarily in that order. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I lack the desire to live that I once had in the WB's HA. I usually just try to kill as many enemy fighters and/or bombers as I can. I usually leave the strategy up to the other guys (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif).
I just enjoy the heck out of killin' planes in general. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Great question rude.....
Personally, I like to try and fly to maxmimize the effort, but minimize the cost. In other words, I try to pretend that it's a true "one life" simulation and fly to achieve the mission, but return the equipment and myself in one piece to fight another day. Unfortunately, I often see one of my buddies in trouble down low and screaming for help, so I usually wade into help him and die in the process. It would be an interesting real life dilemma.

I fly to live! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
But, during squad nite I want to accomplish the mission, regardless of what happens to me. So, if I'm in a buff I have no fear. If, I'm in a fighter, I cover my wing. If, I'm going to get shotdown, I try and run or shoot the first available weakling down! :0

My main goal these day, is to not be gang banged by some squad.
-
Main goal? If there are organized ops to capture territory, I will assist in those but most of the time, Im just looking for a good fite. I want to get in and mix it up. Enemy higher than me? Who cares...maybe I can turn the tables.
Im finding better fites in the TA lately than I have in the MA. No worries of gangbanging in the TA.

I fly with the FDB and as you can see by Mason's post we don't take it too seriously. We will sometimes co-ordinate and do some good in the arena.
I take off telling myself to be patient and fly smart......then I see the furball and I start to drool and fly stupidly into the middle of the furball getting shot down in the process!

Go up, get one or two cons and then RTB.
If they are three, better.
If they are 4 I feel like a 5 year child with his new toy.
If they are 5...5...whats that... a number? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Roll down the runway?
I thought this was some sort of fancy IRC thing...
-
Hmm... it's funny... rtb'n never occurs to me when I'm taking off. That thought usually pops into my head only if I'm outta ammo or fuel. Call me a fly & die dweeb, but I just generally look for the sector that has the most chaos, and try to contribute to it.
When fields are close to capture, or if someone comes up with a devilish scheme, I'll turn on the strat part of my brain and try to do what's neccessary.
This is the MA. Scenarios, OTH, are another story completely.
-
Things I think about while rolling down the runway:
1. How I while die:
A. Will I go down in flames?
B. Will I be killed by 1 ping?
C. Will I lose the tail or the wings?
D. Will I die because of a fire?
2. Will I make it down the runway with out killing a sheep?
3. Will I run out of beer?
4. If the toliet in the back of the plane will clog?
5. That I will actually find good enemy porn on the cockpit TV.
6. If I can hit Hangtimes house with a bomb?
7. Trying to remember if I packed ammo or not?
8. If I can light a fart on fire?
9. If I can actually climb out the window while flying at 150 mph?
And 10. Hopefully I'll make off the ground.
Thats Letterbeefs crappy Top Ten list.

Now, having said the mushy stuff, I'm goin to do my best to bounce all of ya (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
