Hi all,
I haven't flown AH since the beta, but given all the cool new things I've heard of AH lately I've made the plunge from the other sim (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) to here.
Some questions...
There used to be a way to skip instantly from tower to hangar to map etc without sitting through the annoying runabout-the-field routine, couldn't find it in the docs, how do you do that?
Love the fuel options (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Is there anyplace that describes what planes have what internal fuel tanks? I've been flying for a week cursing the 190's short range before I realized that it _also_ has an AFT tank (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Is there a way to get this info besides trial and error running out of fuel? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
What's with the dang N1K2! Haven't seen something that spooky since the old WB P38L UFO days!
Love the high lethality! Gotta get used to it though...
What's with all the freakin' alt-monkeys? Jeez, spits at 25K? I'm used to being the lone 109 in the stratosphere...Another thing I've gotta get used to (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
My gunnery sucks rocks. Another thing to get used to (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Lastly, any tips on getting the hang of the FM transtition? I've noticed things are WAY different in the dive and accelerated stalls seem to come much faster. Anything else?
To all that have been shooting me down the past two weeks, salute! Hear my words though, I won't be on the receiving end for long, that next 30mm round through your wing will be coming from me! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Pull up your clipboard and hit SETUP. then GUI. You can adjust the walk speed from there. I have it set to just be instantly in the hanger.
To see what tanks you have hit shift-F to scroll through your tanks. Go until you see A before the tank name .. this indicates auto fuel selection and it will pull the fuel from the correct tank first.
Gargoyle great to see ya back!

The difference in things in the dive might be due to combat trim being enabled. Go to setup-flight and disable it and see if it's better.

1. The option to set how fast you transition to other airfield buildings is in the Setup menu, under GUI. There you can set automatic clipboard stowage, the transparency of the chat bar (MSG Alpha it is called), and the speed of the movements.
2. Fuel useage.
3. N1K2 is a fast and manueverable plane. It is what it is. The real planes had reliability problems, which is why they're not as famous in real life.
4. Altitude is speed, and speed is life. 22,000 feet is normal here. It may have something to do with airfields being 25 or 30 miles apart over WarBirds 15 to 20 miles (you have more time to climb to alt).
5. The only thing I suggest to get used to the flight model is to use some damping in the Pitch control, which for me is 25%. I can ease my plane into a turn just fine with the pitch, but I always seemed to have a wild ride whenever I released my stick back to center. It would jump all over most of the time if I didn't watch what I was doing.
Damping slows down how fast your controls move compared to your stick.
Experiment. See how much damping you like, if any.

Hans tha fuel table is *great!!!*. Thanks!

Gar from 13th TAS in WB?
Dog out.........
-
Wow, thanks guys! Especially fuel table, excellent!
Nope, I was/am "grgyle" in WB, flew with 1st ACG under "-mrmo-" and 82nd AAF under "kiljim". Seen many familiar names here (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I was noticing that the aircraft aren't the obese wallowing wheezing slugs over 20k here that they are in WB. That could explain the higher alts in AH. It's nice being able to fly a _climbing_ energy battle over 25k (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
grgyle out.

FWIW, I find the N1K2 one of the easiest planes to kill. It is my favorite bird, so I know exactly what its weakness,s are. If you are having trouble with a plane, fly it for at least a month.
BTW, the 30 mm has the worst bullet drop in the game. Switch to 20mm until you get use to the deflection.

I updated that fuel chart (and the non-MA as well) when 1.06 came out, where I added the new planes.

Welp,
I would say the fuel table minimums are optomistic pie in the sky at best.
I love the butt pucker factor of no radar, realistic ammo and fuel settings (as well as vis confirmation of a bogey) for a scenario, but find the unrealistically low arena fuel settings plus the radar porkers makes game play frustrating to say the least.

Yeah man... I loved it in WB when you could get a SpitV with 25% fuel and fly around the arena 10 times before you had to think about landing.... (http://www.ihs4ever.com/~cwm/otn/funny/rolling_eyes.gif)

Snefens, I assume those fuel charts are based strictly at Max power (no WEP).
If nothing else, they are a good relative comparison between aircraft. Though someone in another thread pointed out the F4U and P51 (I think) have the same internal fuel yet the P51 has a much farther range. On WEP the F4U sucks down the fuel.
-
ROTFLOL Wulfie, your sarcasm along with that smiley just got me laughing hard, thks!
-
Yes I did the tests at max continuous power.
They should only be taken as approximations, since I of course increased the multiplier to reduce test time. I don't know how altitude affects them either. They were all done at SL.
They can be quite useful tho I think. Especially in planes with multiple fuel tanks where it can be hard to estimate remaining fuel. I just start a timer when I take off and then compare it to the total time I know I then have available (about 45 min in Ta152 with 75% on take-off for instance). Usually it don't differ more than a minute.
For scenarios I use the other chart (fuel mult. x1) and calculate the time from there since it is often different than MA's x2.

Hey if you don't mind chasing your bellybutton around for nothing go for it, obviously the time not fighting gives you time to work on your sarcasm, keep it up eventually you will get it.
Many apparently think this air combat simulator is named "AAH-Aircraft Avoidance High". If all they want to do is avoid a fight and land "perk" points then it suits them to a T.
On the other hand, if you like to fly the whole plane set (and not just those with drop tanks) and aren't worried about landing or points the lack of opponents at times is, as I said before, frustrating.

The only bellybutton I chase around is girlies, and I don't chase that for nothing.

Get what? Your point? If you had one, yes I did miss it. Maybe I should go out and buy a "Find Someone's Point Amidst Their Whining" magnifying glass? (http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/funny/pityfool.gif)

Yeah I've noticed this too... but what's that saying we have around here? Oh yeah "It's their 30$ and they can do whatever they want with it!" That and the fact that if they are running away, then why do you even bother chasing them? They're RUNNING AWAY FOR A REASON!!! (http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/other/puzld.gif)

Yeah, that's why HTC threw in that nifty lil' innovation called "fuel management"... you can reduce your throttle and RPMs and amazingly you save gas for your return trip. And the wonders never cease.... (http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/other/11doh.gif)
If you aren't worried about landing, then why in the hell do you care about fuel? 75% tanks, you can find a fight and merrily die in it.
I play Aces High because it offers system's management in areas no other game offers. I like the idea of a PERFECTLY SCALED DOWN FUEL BURN RATIO rather than the "25% round trip" deal.
I flew the La5, La7, C205, C202 and other planes that could not carry a drop tank. You know what I found out? With a little bit of fuel management I could stretch the range of those planes farther than those charts indicate.

I remember those same words from my mate when he first came to this sim . I will take your warning to heart . I hope u have one hell of a lot of fun . We do mostly .
Yep I don't like the Nik's either (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) but I do love to shoot their chutes (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ( only one I will shoot btw ) The only way I get them easy is wingman tactics . Hardly ever see two flying together , thank God (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Take care
