I may not be the best pilot... but i have the fastest computer in aces high according to the benchmark page
http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/pc3d.cfm?Game=2 (http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/pc3d.cfm?Game=2)
I just did some upgrades to my computer including adding some pc133 ram and a 300 watt power supply. This allowed me to overclock to 1020mhz from 900 on my T-bird. Well I had to fire up the aces high bench mark to see where I stand and what do you know. For now at least, I am the fastest guy in aces (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) To see where you sit hop on over and try it out.

Dont get too high up on yer horse there.THere are several people that have much faster PCs that that here....thats nice though...now go practice your flying, so that you can brag about something that doesent make you look retarded...

Gunslayer,
I'm thinking about getting a GeForce card similiar to yours. What sort of fps do you get when flying through smoke at a field?

Wobble, I am sorry that you did not like my post. Many people enjoy souping up their computers and then comparing the results, just like the hot-rodders of old. The fact is that many people just cannot afford to go out and buy a ready made cookie cutter computer from a computer store. Many people. like me, have had to build their computer up from scratch and soup it up over time.
Yes, there are people on planet earth with faster computers than me. And of these people, there are most certainly a few that run aces high. But of all the people that play aces high, right now I am the one with the fastest system that has taken the time to run the aces high benchmark. A system is a sum of its parts, and just because someone has a higher clock speed does not guarantee their computer will perform a certain function (ie aces high) faster.
I have spent many hours customizing my computer, adding special cooling, optimizing the bios, streamling the programs that run in the background, overclocking anything that i can safely overclock, and just generally pushing my computer to its limits and beyond.
It is your prerogative if you don't understand or enjoy talk about such things. But as Pyro has stated in many of his post, its not necessary to turn the board into a flaming grounds. It reflects badly on you and the community. It only takes a few seconds to make a derogatory reply. But it takes zero time to not reply at all, and that is what I suggest you do next time you feel like slamming someone that enjoys something you don't.
I made this post not to get on my "high horse", but to reach out to other "tech heads" like myself in aces high and get them to try the benchmark. That is why I posted
"For now at least, I am the fastest guy in aces To see where you sit hop on over and try it out."
This implies that I know by tomorrow some guy with a shiny new GeForce 3 and 1.33 gig athlon t-bird is gonna kick my butt off the top, but for now I enjoy leading the pack (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
P.S. It is quite possible and highly likely that some of the people that read this board are either related to or know someone that is mentally handicapped and really do not appreciate the "retarded" comment.

Heya bowser. I would have to check to be sure, but it depends on how much of the field is smoking. If its one or two , i don't have much noticable drop, maybe 2-4 fps. If the whole thing is flaming, I may get around 45-55 fps maybe a few less if there are a lot of cons. These are just estimates from what i remember. Usually when i fly through smoke i am trying to strafe a Flak Panzer (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) 90% of the time my frame rate pegs at 75fps (my monitor refresh rate) unless I turn v-sync off. Then it can go anywhere from 45fps in smoke up to 165fps when i am facing the clear blue sky (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
BTW What kind of system do you have?
-
don't mean to bust yer bubble, but umm, i think greywolf and i are on top with 61 batmarks at 1280. If you can get past that score, THEN, and maybe then, you would have the fastest rig.

ULTRA's baby...

Actually mas my friend if you go here:
http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/pc3d.cfm?Game=2 (http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/pc3d.cfm?Game=2)
You'll notice that 1024x768 is the default benchmark. Your buddy greywolf ranks number 5 with a score of 63 at 1024x768. IF you look about 5 slots above that you'll notice a score of 78fps at 1024 x 768 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I can't seem to find you on the list? I think they chose 1024x768 as default because its a good balance between processor speed and fill rate. If the default was 640x480 it would be almost all processor speed, as the video card isn't having to work hard at all. If it were 1600 x 1200 it would mostly be video card as newer cards like the ultra and the geforce 3 have insane fill rates (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
1024 x 768 is a really a good balance between the 2 and really shows what the sum of the parts can do. Ultras are awesome though. Wish i coulda afforded one (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
63fps at 1280 is sweet <S>
Now if ya can get past 78 at 1024 , you will be the bomb (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
gigahertz t-bird baby (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
<ooops , i am a knothead. I just noticed that number 3 and 4 are my old posts from before i upgraded some. That puts your buddy greywolf in 3rd (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) >

LOL Gunslinger. U GO, man. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Hang (hopes the bum gets a speedin ticket with that thing)

Gunslayer,
For my system specs, I'm down in the benchmark table at about spot 15. I'm happy with my performance, except when flying through smoke, so I'm considering upgrading my video card.
I notice people with similiar systems but with a GEForce 2 card get about 10-15 more fps then me. Maybe they can also confirm that fps is maintained in smoke.

Gunslayer...don't bother responding to WeebbleWobble, he obviously has computer envy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I love the fact that you have toppled Mason and his ego off the top of the mountain (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Sorry Mason.......looks like your computer is a COAL BURNING POS like mine after all!!

You're right in saying that 1024x768x32 offers a good indication of system/graphics performance, howvere that benchmark is a little on the harsh side (it needs to be though).
I play Aces High in 1600x1200x32 with a monitor refresh rate of 75Hz (time to get a new monitor I think). That benchmark gives me low 40's for that. In the cockpit of the Yak9U (where I seem to spend most of my time) I get a respectable 60-70fps so I'm happy =)

ahh, well if you want to play in the low res, i see yer point...but if you want to play with the big boys 1280 and up, yer not as fast as you think.
and no, i'm not posted, but i have run the test.
-
1600... 32bit 50-120 fps
anti-alliasing on
-
Hrmmm guess I should go run that test when I get home....I'm up for a good pissin contest, I just can't help it. I too am proud of my machine but you don't see me trying to rub it anyones face.

Bah. Time to overclock my GeForce 2 another notch. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I doubt that everyone has put up their results on the page (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Hmm, just 1020mhz, I bet theres alot of people who has more.

Why would you want to make a nice crisp 1600x1200 screen blurry with anti-aliasing? =)

Graywolfe <tim@flibble.org>

Yep, I agree with Fishu..
There must be many around who play aces high at or over 1.5Ghz nowadays.. =)
I for one intend to be one very soon.
-
OH, you mean you plan to buy a P4 Mr. Sid and go slower. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Because of it's FAR superior FPU the Athlon series processors will top that benchmark for some time to come. For Ah at least 1.1 Tbird = 1.5 P4.
As for me, my monitor is what limits my frame rates. It's stuck at 85 Hz Max, which means that I get 85 fps pretty much all the time.

I suggest you update that results page, wonder what happens to the 1600 res result you send in, as it does not show it.
Btw mine is 44fps at 1600 res with these test conditions, of course in flight its much higher and maxes out at monitor refresh.
Now back to our regularly scheduled broadcasts,
TAKA TAKA BOOM !!!
Hiya Bloom, that test referred to is run with V-sync off so the monitor refresh does not come into the equation.

Doesn't seem blurry to me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
21" monitor for these old eyes though..
and I still can't see squat ! hehe
-
Man, I gotta get a bigger monitor. 21" , i am jealous (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
21" is too big for a desktop monitor! My mates got one and because you have to sit that much closer to the screen you feel like you have to physically move your head to follow the action! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) i got neck ache trying to see everything that was going on hehe
Seriously tho it looked good but was just over the top in screensize for me.Plus the thing is a huge size and takes up half a desk !
19" is my limit unless its flat screen

No Bloom in fact I'm planning to build a watercooled t-bird system and hit the 1.5Ghz mark. If I'm lucky enough to get a decent cpu that is..
-
And Bloom: I thought people turn vsync OFF when benchmarking.. don't they?
-
I had a 21" at work for CAD stuff and that thing drove me nutts, i dont want anything over 19" EVER.
its hard to explain why but mess with one for a few weeks and you will know what i mean.
that damn thig was GIANT too..I just know it gave me cancer.
