ive always felt curious about this plane, but never bothered to look for info
what was its role? how did it perform?

Must have performed pretty crappy if "G10 potato" wants it in the game.

Although I have heard that there were some of these in exsistance in WW-2, this is more of a Korean war era airplane if you ask me. Thats the only time they saw combat (as nightfighters I beleave).
Hans.

Think I'll go double check but I think it was responsible for the 1st kill in the Korean War...I'll get back on it.

The quality of the box matters little. Success depends upon the man who sits in it - Baron Manfred von Richthofen

What would happen if those two guys disagreed on which way to turn? Would it keep on flying straight? Would the stronger pilot win? What would happen if they brought that into AH, and sat Lazs in the left seat, and Hangtime in the right seat?

Looks like another one of those crappy American copies of a Superior German Idea™... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

...and besides range and speed, it would offer nothing.
-
These A/C didn't roll off the assembly line until Sept. of 45. They supposed to be long range escort for B29's over Japan, but the end of the war came and they never used them.
Edit: 'never used them in WW2 combat'.

Were the designers taking the p*** or did they just run out of ideas?

The Twinstang did get the first US kills in Korea; I think the first 3 kills, all of Yak-9s, go to the F-82. While it resembles the stang, it's an entirely new aircraft. 130/150 fuel gave it better performance numbers (slightly) than the monopony, especially with the later Allison engines (I think the last Allison 1710(?)s went in them, the 143/145 in the G model. Plus you could sling a radome underneath that SOB.
Nice BIG planform target for a 37mm cannon.
