Will we ever get a Spit, that can compete with the fast German, American, Russian, Jap, Planes that we have in AH now.
Or is the Tempest the "Fast Spit" thats us Brittish Pilots have been asking for?
Just asking thats all, not wanting to upset all you LW/AAF, prima donnas out there.
Marcof 56RAF,

373mph is fast? The Japanese have no fast plane.
Even the best Spitfire, the Mk XIV would still be slower than the P-51D, La-7, Me 109G-10 and Fw 190D-9 below 20k anyway(La-7 below 10k).
But it would at least climb rather well. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

C'mon, give the Brits their due. It is time for the Spit XIV.
-
Yes Yes, Give the islanders their Mossie and spit XIV..think they produced about 1,000 of those XIV's. They should have a late model spittie.

Juzz,
The Spit14 is hardly the best WWII Spitfire. The Best WWII Spit is the Spitfire F.Mk21. Giving the British the Spit21 would be like giving the Germans the Ta152, which has been done. The Spitfire MkXVIII is also better than the Spitfire 14.
Giving the Brits the Spitfire MkXIV is like giving the Germans the Fw190D-9 or the Americans the P-51D, except that it was in service months before either of those were.
For me, the Tempest is not usable. I will never fly one online again (I did once and after being hit by 1 round, fired from a 90 degree deflection angle, I lost 1 month's worth of perk points), so until we get a perk Spitfire, or maybe an A7M2, my perk points will sit unused.

Cant compete?
You need to check your skills
I can compete with every plane in the arena with my Spit9, just fiiiiine.
I wouldnt mind a new spit, but please, if you cant do well in spit9, something wrong with you. Its a superb plane.

Animal-
Be a little careful- the Spit IX is very good, but it is weak in many areas too. In terms of raw performance they are totally outclassed by many of the competing countries' a/c. If I am in a 51 or D9 I choose when the fight starts or ends. Even the G10 can safely egress from a Spit at about any time.
I can compete fairly with the IX if the other guy decides to mix it up; should he decide to run I have no choice but to watch him escape.
-
Yes we need some more Spits badly!
Mk. I, 1938 - Battle of Britain Classic.
Mk. II, 1940 - Upgraded Mk. I, the Spit that all those mean 190's picked on in 1941.
LF Mk. IX, 1943 - The most common Mk. IX by a wide margin. Many had clipped wings for greatly improved roll rate. Merlin 66 engine gave over 4500 fpm at S/L and speeds up to 20 mph faster than F. Mk. IX (current AH Mk. IX) below 18,000 feet. With 130/150 grade fuel, the Merlin 66 could produce 2000 hp for even more fantastic performance.
Mk. VIII, 1943 - The plane that the two-stage Merlins were intended for (Mk. IX was V with a two-stage Merlin wedged in there). Extra internal fuel in the wing roots, fully tropicalised, retractable tail wheel. According to Jeffrey Quill (chief development test pilot) the Mk. VIII was the best Spitfire "from a pure flying point of view". Built in F, LF, HF variants with similar engines (Merlins 61, 63, 66, 70) and performance to Spitfire Mk. IX variants. Used primarily in overseas commands (Asia and Africa).
Mk. XII, 1943 - The first production Griffon Spitfire, a modified Mk. V airframe. Single-stage engine made it a low altitude specialist. No match for the Mk. XIV but still a great performer.
Mk. XIV, 1944 - Simply the finest air-to-air fighter to see service in WWII. A Spitfire redesigned to handle the power of the Griffon. Two-stage supercharger gave it superlative performance at low and high altitudes. Despite immense power, it retained much of the carefree handling and responsiveness of the earlier Spitfire Marks.

Animal,
The problem with our current Spits/Seafire isn't that we can't kill with them. Its that we have to kill everybody in order to survive, and that's a tall order on a Spits ammo load.
I can take off, find a melee, dive into it and kill until out of ammo/energy/altitude but I can NEVER egress from a fight unless the other guy lets me. It is always at his whim whether the fight continues or ends.

Just like the 38 Karnak. I think we can only outrun zekes =( Maybe that's why animal does so good in that spit *shrug*.
I care less if they put a new spit in or not, I hate all sissyfires and their endless turning (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
so u want the super ultimate plane?
Something that outturns most of the planeset AND outruns most of the plane set?
Looks like a chalenging plane to fly to me. We all want that one time to another, but I like the current rule of thumb : U can turn better but I can outrun you. Or his little brother: "you can outrun me but I can outurn you".
Off course, in a P47, it's rarely true (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Anything stills turn better at slow speed but have a better accel. Lot still have a better top speed (F4's, LA7, 109-G10/G6, ponies, thyphies...)
The worst is the Yak, turns WAY better than me, top speed about the same and accelerate good enought to be able to pass you HO, loop and cathc you if you are not at your top speed yet.
Life sucks as a P47 pilot when u are not higher than ur opponent, but that's where the fun is (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) <kissing big red nosed R2800 cowling with love>

No fair, Frenchy. This whine thread is the exclusive property of the Spit advocates. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) <G,D,R>
Seriously, I used to think the XIV would be too much like many others did; in this plane set I now feel it would fit right in.
-
I'm just protecting my assets (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I start to see more and more plane who turn better AND are faster than me, I'm scared.
-
Frenchy, some of us just want the planes flown by "our" historical units during the war. For me this means Hurricane I, Spitfire I, Spitfire II, Spitfire LF IX, Spitfire LF XVI.
And since we have a 1945 uber arena, it would be nice to some of the Spitfires XIV that were available in January 1944!
If you want to fly a crap plane and expect to be competitive, sorry. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I just want historical rides!

Like I said, P47-D30 in a 1945 low alt uber arena is not good, when more and more plane start to outrunandoutturn me, I'm worried.
I love the P47 so much that I will not give it up to rack up more kill/hour but in the other hand, starting to become an "ez kill" for anybody who knows a bit about dogfighting, is painfull (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Lol frenchy,
We all know you'll get your M or N model some time (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Yup, its time for the Spit-XIV. Spit-IX is a great ride, but it cant chase and cant run.Would make for some interesting 190 v Spit fights.
