SiSoft Sandra (at the link posted above) is a great tool for identifying components.  It also allows you to run several benchmarks on the CPU, HD, RAM, etc.

The standard version is free.

Or hit start->run and type 'dxdiag' and hit enter.

Ok Sandra is a great program but it is a little more then I need.  Let me explain:  My company has a contract to inventory all the computers and computer equipment in a small hospital.   I need something that is quick and easy to use and takes no time to install.   There is about 200 computers in this hospital and I don't want to spend 2 weeks doing this :)

Thanks

seriously, if you are running windows 95 or better, try dxdiag, and then hit 'save all information'.  It might tell you everything you need to know...  it'll probably tell you a bunch of stuff you don't need to know too, but that can be easily deleted, and you won't have to install a thing.

Go to:

start/programs/accessories/system tools/systeminformation

(all windows versions, the XP version is much improved)
