the way it used to be was excellent. it did not adversly affect my computer either.
could you perhaps have an option that we could use to turn on the old style of flak?
-
HT,
While you're at it could you change the settings so no one can shoot me down using cannons????
Being shot down by all those cannon planes is really keeping this game from being as fun as it could be. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
Thanks

I was in an La7 yesterday in the vacinity of a both friendly and enemy CV's, saw no AAA puffs, but all of a sudden, Blam, I got the same sound as if I was in a Tank gettinh hit by another Tank, then zap, back to the tower.
No warning whatsoever. It was the AI since no kill was awarded to anyone :/

I don't know, Citabria. The old style of ack seemed a bit weedy - I don't ever remember being downed by it either in a fighter or bomber. I think I lost an engine once in a B17, but it was easy to escape in a fighter.
But I think there should be a compromise - a fast moving fighter changing direction even a little should be able to dodge it. For instance, the other night I was doing about 450 TAS and taking evasive action but still those gunners hit me and turned me into a flaming wreck. Several times I've been destroyed by one ping.
On the other hand, the 88mm should be very lethal to slow moving targets like buffs.
I get the feeling all this has been said before. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
Yup it has been said before, some people claim it does not happen, others cannot fly anywhere near a CV without getting killed rapidly even in wildly evading fighters. Buffs just sail through it mebbe take a hit and keep going, but surely buffs are bigger, slower and a high threat to CV,s so would be a priority target.
Anyway Cit do as I do refuse to fly anywhere near CV's its much safer (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
BUT if you must and you obviously suffer the same as me then keep below 3k and the flak stops, you just gotta avoid the weenie guns, oh yeah sorry they kill as well but at least they dont follow you out to 10k or stuff like that.
Basically tho anywhere near a CV and the CV provides an unpenetrable umbrella for the defensive fighters to grab whilst forcing you below it.
Now if the flak hit its own planes as well or stopped firing if you are near a enemy plane then I could live with that.
-
I have discovered that if you stay under 3k the flak won't shoot at you.
As to the speed of your PC effecting whether or not you get hit, there may be something to that. I recently upgraded to a P4 from a P2. Flak hasn't hit me since.
-
It's not as bad as being killed by one ping from the field ack NOE at 550 mph.

i think flak over the fleet is maybe a little too accurate but it needs it when theres large attacks on it.
acks though, it seems to me the randomiseing pattern the gun throws up or its dispersion is particularly effective and hard to dodge.
Its similar to having an F4c spraying at you from distance.
As it was before, it shot at you, tracked you, and you could predict where the tracers were going to fire next, i think as it is now, it fires in a general direction ahead of you and you have to guess more..
just a feeling i get since the change in acks.

Hazed, it still follows you no matter what u do but less accurate than when this BUG first came out. (Remember when the CV flak model was still called a bug, or is this how HTC wants it permanently?). Anyway CV flak serves no diret defensive purpose it doest stop dive-bombing fighters and its not too effective vs hi-level bombers. All it does is harrass and annoy enemy fighters dogfighting the CVs planes. Plus it doesnt hit/kill friendly fighters even if the enemy they are turning with is getting fired at and has flak puffs all around it. I knew they were proximity shells, but never knew they did instant IFF.....
Arghhh HTC team just fix/change/modify/make it better pleez. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Bulllllllssssssshhhhhhhhiiiii iiiiiitttttttttttt. I've been killed by my own flak when I was following a bandit and had a shot on him that would of sent him down in flames.

Swulfe, ive never been hit or seen a friend get hit by my own ack. In RL both planes would be murdered if the ack exploded THAT close (specially THAT flak tunnel of aggravation that pops up around you).
If AH ack was in layers (like in RL) , with gunners adjusting the alt according to the fighter's alt, THEN things would be much better. Buffs would have to change alt a bit before hopping to the bombsight, fighters would be able to dogfight above the fleet triple-a without worrying that a hammerhead or any turn would bring instant death as they bump into the nearest flak puff of the ack tunnel.

was in a fight many miles from my cv in a p51b w a 109g10 and a 190d9.
cv flak blew up the 190d9 and as i wildly maneuvered w the 109g10 flak shooting at the 109 hit my p51 directly and sent me to the tower.
no one had fun during that all thanks to the cv ai flak.
-
I have been fired upon and hit by my own ack. Many times I thought I must have stumbled upon the enemy CV, but a quick check of the map assures me it is indeed my own fleet fragging me.
-
Boy, those 88s sure put a damper on the fun you can have over a CV eh? Or the fun you can have over a large field?
Remember the good old days when you could hang above a field with imputence.. knowing that someone would have to come from another base to catch you. Knowing that you could outrun them easily if they tried. Knowing that anyone dumb enough to climb after you was going to die as they hung on the edge of a stall. Ah.. those were the good old days.
And howbout those times when you could fly through your ack trusting the AI to only shoot at the guy behind you. Knowing that given enough time you'd be cleared nicely.
Ah.. those were the good old days... eh Cit?

I was never killed by my own flak. On the other hand. I never spent much time hiding in it
