Just Built a new system..Athalon XP1800+ chip, 256mb 2100ddr,Epox 8KHA+ MB,Gainward Gforce 3,Soundblaster live 5.1,etc... The Gforce 3 was removed from my 1Ghz P3 system and was getting 50-65 FR in Aces High with detail setting on 1 . But with this systemI cant do better than 28fps no matter what I do (even climbing with nothing but blue sky visable) it rarely changes from 28... anyone have a ny ideas ??? btw I am also running the latest Nivida drivers and have updated them with no change..running DirectX 8.1..Win 98..nothing elese is runnig on the system either. I ran the 3Dmark 2001 test and came up with 5896 Thanks to anyone with any Ideas PropNut

Try earlier detonator drivers. The newest 23.11? gives me low FR as 21.88 works perfectly. I'm quite positive that will do the trick. Or then try even earlier drivers.

definately something wrong. I get higher 3D Marks with a GF3 and a T-Bird 1.4 in the same motherboard. What drivers exactly are you running? I'm using 21.83's which are the last official version before the current 23.11's I believe.
Also, what's the AGP aperature set to in BIOS? If you're at the default 64MB, up it to at least 128.

Propnut with framerate that low in AH, first thing that comes to my mind that you've set the framerate limit in video settings of aces high. That causes a permanent low framerate reading like you described.
Check your video settings and make sure you have the framerate limit at unlimited.

might not apply with the new XP motherboards but check if its via chipped and then if it is get their latest driver updates from
http://www.viatech.com
ps just to add the latest are via4in1437v(a) drivers
these drivers update specifically you AGP interface pci host bridges DMA support etc.
BELIEVE ME they can save you a world of hurt!
I had a 2 month nightmaare shuffleing drivers and buying USB hubs etc to get my USB adsl modem working and it was the via drivers that were doing it.They were also killing my frame rates with GF2 MX

Oh yeah, via 4in1 should be installed first thing when setting up Epox 8KHA+ board.
Official site is http://www.viaarena.com

Go into the bios and set the AGP aperature size to 128 MB. Now go into Aces High video setting and make sure you don't have the 45 fps limit checked.
One other thing you haven't mentioned - Have you installed the VIA 4 in 1 drivers? http://www.viahardware.com has them. These should have been installed right after Windows. The AGP driver in particular needs to be installed.

:) ...Thanks Guys. I Started by resetting the AGP aperature to 128 and reloaded the 4 in 1 drivers etc..but there was no change..the final fix was to force load the old Nivida12.41 drivers (forcing it to take the older files) rebooted ...and bingo 80+frames. I may try to update the video drivers again. Must have been something wrong with the drivers I downloaded or something happened when I installed them. At anyrate thanks again to all for your help. Another Update for those interested...I decided to go ahead and update to 23.11 drivers. rebooted...28FR again..so once again I reloaded the old drivers and FR is back into the 80s. Anyone else seeing this problem with 23.11 and Gforce 3?

Alot of folks reported this when 23.11 was released. That's why I stayed with 21.83's.

I had a weird experience with the 23.11 drivers. I would see fr of 50 something at the top of the screen but the updating was so slow it looked like a single digit framerate. Re-installed previous drivers the problem disappeared.
