Title: Expanding the Audio Call Functionality ("Check 6 !")
Post by: Vermillion on January 22, 2002, 08:38:23 AM
I have to say, two of the best enhancements to the flight sim genre (and AH inparticular) are the use of voice coms (RW or AHvoice) and the "check 6!" button.  They allow you to communicate with your teammates.

However there is a weakness.  Obviously, you usually are only on voice com with your wingie/squadmates, and the "check 6" function is limited.  And many people simply fail to read the text buffer at all.

How about adding several other pre-programmed audio calls?

For Instance:

"I'm On The Way"
"Dragging Bandits to you"

And I'm sure there are several others that I'm just not thinking of right now.

Just a thought :)

The two I think would be very, very useful would be

Break left!
&
Break right!

I don't know how many times when trying to rescue someone they will break in exactly the wrong direction for me to drop in behind the bad guy and take him out.

I would like a comm system like the one in Aces of the Pacific.

select target like the current check 6 call button. The moment you begin to select the target of the call, a little translucent menu comes up to the side of the text buffer with the choices:

1)Check 6!
2)Break left
3)Break right
4)On the way to help you
5)Dragging!
6)Drag for me
7)Dive!
8)Climb!

Since we have to let the thing sit on the "targeted' friendly for half a second before the call is sent out, during that time the player presses # 1 -> 8 for the call of his choice, and that's the one that gets sent.

Default call if you dont select any is check 6.

Good suggestion.   Such "macros" would be great for making coordination between wingies easier.

That sounds exactly like what I would like Tac - and maybe even allow the user to specify which message is sent with each command - so that you could arrange them as you would like.  I'd say put Check 6 as a number too - this would help with mis-fired check 6's that go to the wrong person - have the selection button just cycle through targets so you can be sure to shoot your command at the right plane, and if you choose nothing, have it un-select them after a couple seconds.

I'd give up one of you guys for this functionality.

EDIT:
Pssst! Hey Kampf - what's a 'Detornator'? :p

Well, you could add an option "0" for "CANCEL".. but I believe that leaving the check 6 call as default if none is selected to be better, especially in a furball. Those that would use the other options are likely to be their wingmen or semi-organized in a way... I sure as hell would not follow a "DIVE" call at 24k and I dont know the person sending it, but a 6 call I do take into account.. saves lives :)

Either way it would be a cool feature.

I would rather have the option to assign them to seperate keys (and therefore be able to program to a joystick button), rather than opening a menu and having to choose a number.

I have a full CH HOTAS setup, and I do not want to have to move my hands from my stick and throttle to make a selection from a menu.

Well, with the saitek setup, you could use SGE to map a button to one keystroke, then another, and record the time between the strokes too - I would guess you could do the same with your setup.
