Heyas,
I've thought a little about trying out a Jet sim just for toejams and giggles. Whats the best modern flight sim out there? I've heard Falcon 4.0 is great, that the consenus? There other good ones?

Hard to beat Falcon 4 with all the patching and add-ons available. Janes F/A-18 is pretty good too. If you're interested in a chopper sim check out Enemy Engaged - Comanche vs Hokum.

Janes F/A-18 is outstanding as a modern flight sim but as AKIron mentioned you can't beat the updated Falcon 4.0. Although another good one if you can find it is Janes F-15.

Updated Falcon 4.0? What you just download patches and stuff kinda like Operation Flashpoint?

If only it were that simple. There's about a gazillion modifications to/for Falcon 4. If you have it or pick it up let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

If you want an avionics/cockpit sim, yep both Janes F/A-18 and Falcon 4 are it. Falcon 4 also has a pretty good dynamic campaign engine. Huge selection of community-made add-ons including updated game engine, additional aircraft, terrain, graphics etc etc.
If you want flight/combat simulation with hi-action sea battles and carrier landing, intense Air to Ground action, and ultrarealsitic flight simulation, Flanker 2.5 is it. Flanker 2.5 has no campaign but has a very powerful mission editor. You get to fly the Su-25/27/33/39 and the Mig 29.
PS - I own both Falcon 4 and Flanker 2.5 for both reasons.

Vruth I had forgotten about the Flanker series. Did you know they are releasing a new version of Flanker 2.5 with all the up to date modifications and patches? It is supposed to be sent out on CD for around $10 in retail stores.

Falcon 4 is it.
And its not so complicated -- you just download the 1.08 patch, and the SuperPak upgrade. Thats it.
As for my favorite, I have to say Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs Hokum, though its not a jet sim. It ROCKS.

I saw a display of jewel case only, but new (They looked to be repackaged, so manuals would be in the jewel case) PC games for $10 at CompUSA.
There were some flight titles, including Jane's F-15... might check your local store. I got Jane's USAF boxed there for $12 about 6 months ago. I think I played it for about an hour before I got completely bored with killing airplanes I couldn't see. :)
