I had forgotten how much I liked the game. Over at our message board we were talking about games that we wanted to trade. So I was thinking about games I still had to trade and decided to install something my parents bought me for Christmas 2000....."Star Wars: X-Wing Trilogy". It has three games in it; X-Wing, Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. I have been playing Tie Fighter for two days now and beating the hell out of the damn Rebels.....:D
-
Dude, Tie Fighter and X-COM: UFO Defense were directly responsible for my withdrawal from college.
That and it was a big waste of money...
Tie Fighter is THE game that got me hooked.
-
hmm... Reschke likes the Empire better than the Alliance, and he likes the LW better than the Allies... makes ya wonder... :D
-
Ha! XCOM - UFO caused me to break up with girlfriend back in '95. Thank God I had my degree by then. :D
-
hehe, Mickey, Ultima Online did the opposite for me. Met a girl through there and had a few NICE encounters with her in the flesh. ;)
-
It is only because Tie Fighter came out after X-Wing, and was a much, much better game.
-
Well let me interject here Nifty. I liked X-Wing when it was out and then I liked X-Wing Alliance more than the others. However there is something to be said for getting those neat looking forearm tattoos from that guy on the podium.......:D
So having made it to the 3rd step of the food chain I hope to be getting to the Emperor soon.....;)
X-Com was probably the best game I have ever played PERIOD.
-
Those games you sent showed up today, Reschke, so I'll be trying out X-Wing Alliance in about 5 minutes.
-
Cool have fun man.
-
I missed TIE-fighter, but X-Wing Alliance is definitely an excellent game. It's not on par with TIE-fighter, but it's probably the closest LucasArts has come since then.
-
ispar if you want a copy to "evaluate" let me know and I will see what I can gather up for you.
-
hehe, I just couldn't resist, Reschke! ;)
I played X-Com2 a lot myself. I have the X-Com collection that has 1, 2, and 3. I like 2 the best, even tho underwater physics are off. ;) there's just something cool about the LobsterMan. ;)
I had the original X-Wing, but none of the others. It was a blast to play. Especially with the cheat proggie I found. Nothing like having a suped up X-Wing with 32 proton torpedoes on board (I don't think it let you do more than that, could be mistaken though). Take out Star Destroyers easy in that one! ;)
Other PC games that ate into my study time at college were the two Aces games from Dynamix/Sierra, the Wing Commander series and Civilization. :)
Of course, NCAA football was the biggest hit when it came out on the Sega Genesis. I remember going to a huge party at FSU, and there were about 20 guys and girls crammed into someone's bedroom watching people play NCAA '96. I continue the tradition today with NCAA2002 on the PS2. Sorry Reschke, but I beat your Blazers something like 45-17 in dynasty mode on All-American difficulty. I can win games on Heisman, but it's almost impossible to run the ball, and you have to pass all the time which isn't fun for me. ;)
-
X-Com series ROCKED, I think it's the game I played most
(errr I 'd have to check with Harpoon1 ... 27 hours in a row, 4 bottles of coke & 3Packs Marlboro... hehe... wish I still had that much time :) )
I still have the 3X-Com CD's but haven't been able to launch 1 or 2 on WIn*** :( (USB mouse)

X-Com Apocalypse was the greatest game for me even though the original X-Com left the biggest mark in my heart.
You could pause the combat, set up the troops and then just sit back and just watch the firefight develop - sometimes 10-15 seconds before you would want to intervene.
Suckering the bad guys into your ambushes (motion-detecting mines, etc) - it was such a fun. At least until you saw a cultist aiming a rocket launcher at a bunch of your troops...
Your tactics quickly developed into the exact ones used in real combat - no bunching together, leapfrog movement and liberal use of hand grenades to clear all suspisious places.

Yep those college days of tournaments with Bill Walsh College Football (now known as NCAA College Football) playing in a round robin elimination was fun.
It all started for us at UAB in 1991 (our first year as a college football team) playing Madden in those tournaments. When Bill Walsh came out we had a blast and played for 12 hours straight. The first tournament was for a case of beer and in the time it took to play the tournament with 8 guys we consumed many more than that case.

Everything I know about air combat I learned from X-Wing and Tie Fighter. :)

Just curious how I can "hijack" my own thread I started when I was responding to Nifty.
Dead Man; The only Star Wars game I have not flown is X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. But I have had it for a long time and I think

bah, it's your thread, you can do what you want with it. ;)

Well, I was actually referring to the games X-Wing AND TIE Fighter, both of which I wasted tons of time playing. I do own X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter as well, but it made the HO jousting you see in AH look like child's play. Those damn X-Wing weenies would always joust and run. :)

I played the TIE Fighter demo about 100 times before the game was actually releases here. Since that day I've finished the game 4 times. The other similar releases didnt even come close. X-Wing was cool and alliance was a bit dated. Boy oh boy do i remember some fun times in TIE Fighter.
Once you know what happens in that mission where other pilots try assassinate you its perfectly possible to line up the first coupla pilots and waste em even before they can move to attack. Hilarious.
I saw mention of X-Com. What great games. Except terror from the deep, that was a bit crap.
XvT was also a bit crap.
Thanks for the great memories :). Looking forward to Jedi Knight 2!
-
Yep gavor I am looking forward to it also. I just hope it does not go the way of the last few Star Wars games and get crappy.
-
gavor, I know you didn't just dis da Lobsta Man and his Tasoth homies! :D
The cargo ships and cruise liners were frickin' intense! Open the door and one of those damned flying saucer things would be right there waiting on you... ;)
-
I have to agree, terror from the deep was my favorite of the x-com series . I didn't care much for Apocalypse .
Off topic here Super Metroid is still my fav non pc game, even the sound track is awsome . I've been playing lately on emulator .
-
Lobster man! Gaaaaa. How impossible was it to kill him when he first turns up. No I wasnt a great terror fan, i enjoyed it to begin with but it got boring quickly.
Now apocalypse, there was some hard core destruction. Arm a few guys with heavy explosive stuff and let em rip. Why go looking for the aliens in the building when you can level the building :D!
Jedi Knight 2 is looking good cant wait for some more lightsabre action!
