Title: CH F16 Combat stick and only 4 buttons working?
Post by: Spatula on January 23, 2002, 05:35:22 AM
I just have bought a CH F16 Combat stick and have installed the latest drivers for it form CHproducts.com and it calibrates fine and it all work in the test applet. Except i cant seem to get 2 fire button lights on simultaneously, only one at a time.

Anyhow, in AH, it only seems to see the first 4 buttons, the rest dont get seen by AH. And again i cant seem to hold 2 fire buttons down - like pri and sec fire! Only one of the hats is recognised in AH.

I read in the instructions that there is a mini-port driver for direct-x for this very problem and it says to refer to the installation instructions that make no mention of anything like that.

Does anyone know of such a mini-port driver? and where i might get it?

OK, spec time:
AMD Athlon 650 OC'd to 711 MHZ (Slot-A)
K7V Mobo with rev 5 bios.
256 Meg RAM
Asus 7100 gforce 2 MX 32 meg (OC'd)
Diamond monster II sound (vortex 2 drivers)
Direct X 8.1
CH Pedals (not pros)
CH F16 Combat Stick (with latest drivers installed).

All controllers using the monster sound II gameport. I have tried with the standard port driver (with and without poll with interupts) and the vortex one, but to no change.

Anyone got any ideas???????

U have the USB or analog stick?

I have the analog CH Combat stick and it works fine, all buttons work.

In case of DX8, did you reintall it after you installed the stick drivers?
If not try it. As far as i now DX8 installs only the DX drivers for installed hardware, so with your new stick you need to reinstall it.

Yes its an analog stick (gameport).

I tried reinstalling direct-x 8.1 and it didnt fix anything.

Any other ideas?

Unless you have the 568 model ( the one with the LARGE base only one button will work at one time .

Download "speedkeys" program to map the other buttons . Also are u using this driver ? it's for win9x
http://ftp://ftp.chproducts.com/pub/F16-CS.exe

That should map the directx buttons on your stick without using "speedkeys" .

What OS? If you use win2k set stick up as a generic six-button joystick with two hats and throttle.  That option is available by default in the "Game controller" control panel applet.  Installing a (win 9x) combatstick driver in win2k caused me all kinds of problems.  Removed it and used the generick setup - viola! it works with all buttons/hat enabled.

Spro: i am using that very file from CH products - dl it yesterday. Also, how do you tell its the 568 model? mine has a large sqaure base. Mine has one the base "Product No. FSP863D0"

Still no joy either... I aint tried the speedkeys thing yet.

Speedkeys is the programming utility that allows you to do what you want (Macro's and multiple "keypresses" on a single button).

The only problem is that Speedkeys does not work in Win2k or WinXP, and they are not going to update it.  They suggest updating to their new USB equipment (except they dont' tell you where to obtain a spare $300 and up for the replacements)

The only work around for this that I know of, is to maintain a dual boot system with a very small Win98 partition.

I installed the speedkeys program but when i run it, it says it cant find the joystick. Is it for USB only?

CH recommend i buy a gamecard cause my port is too slow. IS that likely to cause this fault? Im mean the JS works fine in the cntrl panel JS applet and works smoothly in AH, except i only get 4 buttons working.

I used speedkeys with a analog stick , not usb .

About the 568 model if you don't know if you have it or not most likly you don't . It has the same base at the "FIGHTER" stick , more elect. stuff I guess to let more than one button work at a time .

Don't know why speedkeys don't work for you . What do you use for a throttle ?? I used CH Pro Throttle , analog . I had to use the speedkeys program to set the buttons up on it . I know on the CH website they list one soundcard that doesn't have enough "stuff" to work right with their products , don't remember if yours was the one or not . Maybe you have that sound card ? Hate to tell you to get the throttle and still have problems :( The throttle is damn nice though .

OK CH guys , I am out of ideas . Kieran is a CH guy , Ammo , Popeye also . I was but am using Saitek with USB Ch Pro Pedals with Bob Church's rudder driver .

PS: I know one time I had all the button working with that driver , but the second hat was only four more buttons I think . I still have it , I checked but ain't using the stick anymore , got to spiking when I pulled back .

edit , look at my pic on my sig . That's the regular CH combat stick , hehe , little "Denise" she's helping me kill the bad guys :D

I got my old stick out and put it on my backup pc .

Win98se , directx 8.1 , soundblaster live value

I used the same driver from the link , F16-CS . Only this time just used the joystick not the throtte or speedkeys .

This should work for you , must be the sound card ? Have you looked on the CH website to see if that's the one ?

FSP86300 is the product number on the back of my stick .

I took some pic , we will see if I can get both link on here .

The 568 is a USB stick so Spat doesn't have that one. have you checked your gaming options in control panel to make sure everything is recognized and enabled?

Speed keys is the program for analog equip., Control Manager is the program for USB equip.

Spat go to Ch Products web site and read the review on the 565 analog combat stick, it states there that if AH doesn't support Micrsoft direct input that it reverts to a fighter stick setup with some buttons inactivated, but I know for a fact that the analog combat stick is used in AH by many people with all butons recognized, Hajo and Vati use the analog CH setup maybe if ya see them on-line you can quiz them on how they set it up !

The stick 'ive got looks the same as your one spro. It even has the same number on it.

Also, tyro, I have installed the driver from CH, calibrated it and checked it in the control panel and it all works fine. IE i get FULL functionality from all the buttons. The only thing of concern was i cant press 2 buttons simulaneously.

It is only when i try to set the stick up in AH do i loose the functionality in all but 4 (first four) of the buttons.

I have talked to tech support at CH and they recon its cause my ports aint fast enough, but im not convinced with that explantion cause i get full functionality in the control panel applet - ie all the buttons work fine.

tyro, can you forward me that link on the CH site you mentioned??

Spat it's http://www.intelligamer.com/hardware/chf16/chf16.asp

also seems to me you should be able to make the multiple commands you want within speedkeys, such as fire primary and secondary guns all at once which would be f & b or n to fire both, I use control manager for the USB stuff I have and you would just enter f b in the normal function panel, you might want to try removing all ch software and start over just using the speed keys

by-the-by you get your pedals up and runnin?
Title: ok we getting closer
Post by: airspro on January 25, 2002, 07:03:36 AM
Spatula : Ok first now we know that you have the same stick , it will not fire the guns and cannons at the same time using two buttons . Oh yes you can set it up in the game to fire both but to have the trigger fire say mg and the the 2 thumb button to fire cannon "together" WON'T work . Been down that road , won't work . Thats why they sell the 568 stick for people that want a combat stick that will do that , not a Fighter stick .

Ok I checked in Ace's High , it sees all the buttons on my combat stick just like in the control applet .

I got another pic of setting up the buttons in the > settings > joystick > select joystick , in AH program . I know a pic says a thousand words .

Do you see what I am seeing when you go there on your pc ? I sure hope it's just this .

Just assign the joystick buttons to the AH button that you want etc . You probably know this already but just to make damn sure ,

Thnx spro. I never even checked that screen, i just assumed AH would pick up the extra button presses in the stick mapping screen.

Ok, so it all works fine and dandy now. Except, like you, i cant press 2 simultaneously, but thats ok as i can assigned the combined fire to another button.

ANd yes tyro, i got my pedals going again. So im airborne again.

Thanks all for your help :)
