Great! My error says: The AcesHigh.exe file is linked to missing export dsound.dll:11
Dead in the water.

Same thing here says aceshigh.exe could not be opened

Maniac, that message means that the updater is seeing something different in your current installation than what it is expecting. This is usually caused by either a disk error or a virus. I'd recommend doing a disk scan followed by a virus scan. After that, you'll need to reinstall AH. Hopefully, you still have the downloads on your box.
Horn, did you just start getting that message after the update or have you been doing anything with DirectX or sound drivers?

Heres the context of the install.log file :

Horn Try reinstalling Direct X 8.0 or higher.

"....you'll need to reinstall AH"
If you do SAVE your SETTINGS and SOUNDS directories so you won't need to re-do your sounds and views.
Just don't over write the new, default folders after re-install in case you need them after wards if putting back your settings/sounds causes problems. Just rename them "OLD..."
FWIW, I just had an error free update on this box. But there are no custom sounds or saved views. All files are AH defaults from the initial install a couple of months ago.

No, it was only after the update. I uninstalled, went back to ver 1084, reinstalled, re-updated. It works, I can log on. As soon as I re-get the patch tho, boom, there are errors after the new patch install.
I only use this box for AH, so I don't mess w/ it much :)
I have
p3-500
256 RAM
13 gig hd
TNT ultra 2 64 mb
soundblaster live
Thanks

Great advice, Westy. Wish I had caught this post earlier :(

Patch 7 is now available for download. This latest patch changes our minimum requirements to DirectX 8 instead of DirectX 7. If you receive a sound error trying to start Aces High after the patch, that means that you had DX7 installed and will have to upgrade to 8 or 8.1.
We are extremely sorry that those of you affected were not forewarned of this change. It was a miscommunication on our end and we sincerely hope that it doesn't cause much inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding.

Read under the News forum on BBS - directx 8.0 or 8.1 must be installed. this might be a source of problems.

Had that as well, Lol tried to DL 3 times before i realised what an idjut i was.
Until now the auto update at least on my comp has automtically found and installed into the existing AH folder, for some reason this update never found it and was trying to install into the default C:\program files\Aces high etc etc.
Obviously mine is not there, smacked meself about the head told it where to look and no more problem.
Hope your cure is as easy.

Maniac, I think Cav has your answer:
<<D:\GAMES\ACESHI~2 >>>
Could there be an GAMES\ACESHIGH1? I had the same problem as you, it turned out the updater was trying to update a 2nd AcesHigh directory I had setup but wasn't using. Check if you have two versions of AcesHigh installed and get rid of the old one.

Anyone else get a "Could not initalize installation. (CRC)" error upon trying to run the patch? Same thing for the autoupdater or the downloaded patch.
