Title: Critical joystick mapping issue

I'm slowly getting back into the flight simming hobby and trying out Aces High again.

One very important feature I want to implement with my HOTAS.

I want to be able to use snap views (e.g. look left which will be keypad 4) by only pressing that button ONCE and not having to hold the button down.

For example, I want to snap view to right view, so I press keypad 6 and release it, but my view still remains on right view, so I don't have to keep pressing the button in order to maintain that view.

I think that will make it far easier for newbies (or returning folks) to control views etc while maneuvering the kite cuz you don't have to keep pressing down on your view keys to keep that view.

How do I implement this in Aces High? Or another question is , does Aces High support this feature?

I am not sure the answer to your question (whether AH supports that feature).  However, take my word for it when I say that "sticky views" are a good way to get yourself killed.

You got the term I was looking for "sticky views", thanks :)

I can see how "sticky views" can create it's own problems too, just that for *me* I think they'll help me a lot for my SA and I don't have to make my fingers do strange gymnastics in order to hold down keys while I'm twisting my joystick/throttle around.

I hope Aces High has it, esp. for us newbies :)

Why is your joystick/throttle devoid of a view hat which can be manipulated while you're twisting it around? :)  My thumb never really leaves mine while I'm in combat.  

I can understand not having a throttle.  Even rudder pedals can be squeeked by without (though you lose a ton of ability when you don't have these).  But I don't see how anyone could possibly be anything more than a target in this game without a stick w/ a view hat.   Bomber work sure.  Maybe a little high speed BnZing.  But beyond that, working the keyboard amongst all the other stuff is just a losing cause.

And don't even get me started on the mouse guys. :)

I'd also think that if a bad guy's in one view (other than your 12) long enough that you'd need sticky keys, either you or he is doing something wrong. ;)

I am currently upgrading my ch HOTAS (non USB) to a USB ch HOTAS. So far, I've just got the USB fighterstick and will get the USB pro throttle soon.

On the warbirds messageboard, some nice folks have replied to my message there, and it sounds like warbirds III has a "sticky keys" option, which is great. Although I've never tried out Warbirds III, I think I'll try it out offline for a bit.

So far though, it seems like Aces High doesn't have this option. I know that this option may not seem important for the pros, but I think it helps out newbies a lot.

I spilled a big Jack and Coke on my old keyboard and it got sticky views. Maybe you can try that.

Use SpeedKeys to program the view so they "stick", just make sure you program them as a macro with Hold Keys Until Released unchecked.

FYI-  These other guys are right, sticky view is just gonna get you killed.

Thanks for the info akak, I appreciate your practical, to-the-point and friendly reply :)

Since I'm now using the USB fighterstick, I'm using the CH "control manager" software, which may have a "sticky keys" capability of it's own, I'll check that out.

Although I admit I'm a newbie, I don't see in principle how "sticky keys" by itself could be a dangerous thing in flight, cuz it seems anything that you can do with a "non stickey keys" setup, you can do those exact same things with a "sticky keys" setup as well. So for example you can switch views pretty much just as fast with or without a "sticky keys" setup.

So the only difference is that you don't have to keep pressing something to keep a view. Sticky keys does not necessarily mean that I'd like to keep using one view for a longer time than necessary (which WILL get me killed :)  ), it just gives me a different method of control input.

You might like the pad-lock feature AH has.  Check it out and see if that is what you are talking about.  Locks on nme.  Prolly better then being stuck on one view.
