Title: Daytona coming up, Little E gonna wear the #3?

Did I see somethin on the news the other day about Earnhardt Jr.  is gonna wear the #3 on his car this year? Are you guys getting pumped up about Daytona this year? Wish I was down there for speedweeks. The weeks leading up to the Daytona 500 are something I've enjoyed since I was yea high (holds hand 3 feet off the floor).

But the bigger question looms, "Who's gonna cause the 'Big One' this year"?

hblair: Enjoyment of car racing has always baffled me also.  What do you like about it?

I'm not a nut, I don't watch every race. But I do enjoy watching the big races. I go to an occasional race at Talladega, which is near where I live. I think you have to experience a Winston cup Superspeedway race in person to appreciate it, Watching it on television doesn't do it justice. The competition is very close in nascar. The cars aren't as high-tech as F1, Cart, etc. but the racing is much more exciting. Lead changes, trading paint, etc. You can see the whole racetrack (all 2.66 miles) in prolly 50% of the seats at Talladega, something you can't say for most other types of racing. You just haven't lived til ya see the green drop and the cars make the first couple of laps, steadily increasing in speed, til they reach 195+ mph, door to door, whole field within 1.5 secs of each other. :)

But anyway, whos gonna cause the pile-up at Daytona? Surely we have some real race fans here. I know funked is a big winston cup buff. Funked?

Not a real NASCAR nut here but I keep up with it. I like the road courses better but I went and "worked" at Talladega a couple of years ago when they had put in the aerodynamic package they use now. It was nice to see so many cars trying to get a piece of the big money payout there at the end with the wreck AFTER the finish line in turn one......:D

My brother goes once in awhile.  He says the hottest thing there are the chicks!!!  :)

I guess chicks dig the loud noises.  Kinda cool if ya think about it!  The loud noises will drown out their voices.   :)

to each his own, never saw the attraction myself but to me a car is a means to get me from point A to point B without walking :)

I live quite close to the new NASCAR track in Fontana, Ca. All it has meant for me is long waits on the freeway on race weekends, and jobs for the kids in concession booths.  

Lots of people like it though, if they would only freakin carpool!
