Is asking for billions of dollars to increase border security. The number of border patrol agents will double. Most of these people will be used to guard us from CANADA.
Apparently, the threat of being trampled to death by the crowd, will keep terrorist from crossing our southern border.
-
They will be used to guard against your own crap border guards..BTW..All the terrorists from Sept11 resided in USA..Not Canada.
-
The Canada US border is the longest open border in the world. If the US is worried about how canada keeps people out of our country(low population and small military and largest coastline in the world..) then they should look at manning their border (not check points necessarily) alot more aggressivly.
-
You boys seemed to have missed the point. Our real problem is to the south, not the north.
The fellow in the white house seems to have an agenda that has nothing to do with border security
-
I didn't know land mines cost so much ...
-
easymo, which border was it that we last caught people sneaking explosives into the Country? Nope, not Mexico, try again.
If you were to take your blinders off you would realize that the Southern border is already heavily patrolled. The Northern border has never been.
-
According to the Tyson chicken people, you just cant get unskilled Americans to work for 15 bucks an hour.
So we would never be able to produce the mines.
"Southern border is already heavily patrolled."
LOL. I live here pal. i have seen with my own eyes how "heavily" we patrol the border.

Or maybe you just did not bother to read articles on the internet and in the major newspapers and in the media about massive plans for re-equipping the US-Mexican border with hi-tech security devices that would be able to detect a human, beefing up the forces protecting it (including personnel), cooperation with mexican authorities, etc. - to the tune of billions of dollars.
May be not as much money is going to be spent/people used in the south as in the north anyway - there is some protection already in place in the south (because of past drug-trafficking, immigration) while none exists up north, also landscape down south may be more suitable for automation.
Try going to http://www.economist.com or any other publication and enter "mexican border security" into the search field.

What agenda? We are at war; when would anyone suggest we beef up security on our borders? Seems natural to me, but maybe I don't see something you do, Easymo.

I also live in the Southwest. Right now I go to a community college (A&P program) less than 5 miles from the fence. Damn straight that border is patrolled. I see the convoys of BP vehicles leaving at shift change as well as the road smoothing they do to show the tracks of the illegals when they cross. I have even met some of the BP folks when I was hunting over 20 miles north of the fence. The Eastern side of the state is really heavily patrolled and quite a few of the illegals are picked up daily.
I speak to several Agents including the air unit in Tucson and they are out there the majority of the hours of the day and not just in the day time either. They are stretched thin and need the reinforcements.
Mav
PS I collected my share of the illegals in my municipal patrol area over my career and I wasn't looking for them.

Let me tell you a story about border security.
A couple of years ago, a friend and I rode our harleys out to west Texas, to a place called The Devils Frying Pan. We decided to pop across the Rio Grande, and have a few cervasas at a cantina there. Just a small bridge, no guards on either side. We got to drinking with a couple of the boys there. Well, a gunfight broke out in the cantina. I hate loud noises when im drinking, so we invited these fellows to grab a case of cold ones and head back across the river. So we could visit in peace. Nobody paid the slightest attention to our returning with these fellows. And we had a good time singing, and getting drunk.

Well that proves it beyond the shadow of a doubt. easymo is assisting in illegal immigration!
Terrorists... easymo..terrorists..are what we want to catch. Not Mexicans trying to make a living. And BTW I live a lot closer to the border than you seem to, based on your "location".
-
Well, hell. They SAID they was going to go back.
Miko. the links from the site did'nt work. The cocain useing monkeys was interesting though.

Kieran. Who do you think it is that wants this cheap sorce of labor? Poor folks? I don't mind the rich getting richer. As long as they do it by the rules. Take away the cheap labor (read indentured servitude)and these business owners would, by law, be forced to pay a reasonable wage. Plus benefits. Instead these businessmen have found a way to force taxpayers to foot the bill for "benefits", for health care ect. through welfare programs. The bush agenda is to get reelected. It is a win ,win for him. Picks up some hipanic votes, and keeps some rich Rep's happy. We just take it up the bellybutton as usual.

Dude...I dunno whether it's $15 an hour but I'll tell you this, if Tyson say's they couldn't find cheap labor among the local population (Tyson is a big deal back home) they weren't kidding. My home town may have had 10 hispanic families back in the early 80's (town of 35,000). The place is roughly 45,000 now and I'd venture 90% of that growth was folks from south of the border. Who's legal and who aint is beyond me, but...hey, I'd just as soon pay people a reasonable wage than let some union driven jackballs force the price of a fryer up from around $5 to $20. Ever notice how cheap chicken is? Ever wonder why? Do ya really think the CEO of Tyson is going to let Tyson absorb the cost of paying stupid money for menial jobs?? lol. Nope...he's gonna fire as many people as he can get away with and keep his buisness running. Then he's gonna take the difference and pass it right along to you and me. No, I'm not a communist...but I do NOT agree with the typical union's idea of "everybody should be well off if not rich".

A federal grand jury in Tennessee yesterday indicted the nation's largest meat producer, Tyson Foods Inc., and six current or former executives on charges of conspiring to smuggle illegal immigrants into the United States to work in poultry plants

Many Americans can recall the hoopla over Hillary Clinton having made more than $100,000 virtually overnight in the swine futures market in 1998. The tip came from James Blair, chief counselor at Tyson Foods. The Springdale, Arkansas-based company showered gifts for favors upon Clinton administration officials including former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy. Don Tyson was one of Bill Clinton's "closest friends and biggest supporters," according to grand jury testimony concerning Tyson political misconduct. Don Tyson was Bill Clinton's top fundraiser during his gubernatorial and presidential elections.
