VMF

From 1937-1975
V stands for "heavier than air aircraft"
M was designed to differentiate Marine squadrons from Naval squadrons.
F I stands for Fighter or fighting.
VMFA is Marine Fighter Attack Squadron(1963 to preset)
VMAAW is Marine All-Weather attack squadron (1965 to present)
And let me throw you some back at 'cha..
