I can make sure abusers don't fly in a TOD again. I would rather not. Of course if after 4 months some of you don't know the TOD's are a one life event, you now know.

Received an e-mail from ice who explained why he had a reup. He understands quite well what went wrong and will not make that mistake again. Thanks for the e-mail ice. :) Hope to hear from the others as well.

In all fairness to these guys, looking at their times and at the 332 roster, you are probably talking about a single event at the beginning of the frame, and one that involved most of their squadron. More than anything, I'm curious to hear the story now:
clouds is credited with EasyKill, Rompa and ManeTMP, before dying himself.
Iceydee and Selector die three seconds after ManeTMP, who was the last one of the three kills scored by clouds.
In fact hte only people in that squadron not to get a mysterious "shot down" the first sortie were:
Duvel (unknown), GA, Sarge1 (Crash lands). That's out of a squad of 12.
What happened? Did they get airborne and then furball? Did clouds take off with a bomb and hit them all on the field?
Later on, Bozon is crediting with killing iceydee, but isn't docked points; that looks like icedee might have gotten in the way while fighting.
So guys, what happened?
As someone else commented elsewhere: I don't want to be flying heavy and see clouds on close escort.

Bozon shot down a Spitfire in the same sortie and the 2 cancelled each other out.

this is what happens when you put a bunch of drunken vikings tards together on the runway.
we were loaded with bombs and rockets we were supposed to loose them after take off for A2A mission, then rearm and go jabo.
but some joker fired a rocket on the runway thus blowing up the entire viking squad :p
then we reupped and droped the ordenance after taking off, but some of us (me...) forgot to make sure that, although high enough, do not have someone flying right below them.... :p
that accounts for iceydee's death.
check the time of those respawns. you'll see they are within the first minute or so of the frame...
Duvel was discoed right after take-off and reupped.
please forgive our clumsiness, there were no reups ofter we managed to get ourselves airborne without killing each other :D
next time, no beer before AH events.
Bozon,
XO 332nd Viking squad

Thanks for the explanation! :)As one of the CMs on Saturday, and being new to the job, this has caused me a great deal of concern. I think, really, everyone who was affected should have let us know what happened and asked for permission to reup, which would have prevented this confusion! Unfortunately, though, the fields were still open and we were completely unaware of this happening. Thanks for taking the time to respond with what actually happened - it is greatly appreciated! :)

(trying to hold a straight face)
What I wouldn't give for a screenshot of the squad text buffer....

The best way to control this is :
A) At the source, while online.
B) Strip them of their points.

Any of the Vikings have the film recorder on????
Can be posted of what not to do in a TOD! :)
IMHO, if there is a mistake like that soooooo close to ROLL, I believe the squad should be able to take off again, with no deduction. After all, we do this to have fun. Some guys wait all week to fly the TOD and to get taken out in this fasion and not be able to re-up, would be discouraging.
Just a thought!!
Damn funny though!!!

S!
I have to say I find this whole event hilarious... :D
But I am also a little disappointed.
The CM`s will do all they can to help players who are disconnected, or who have other legitimate reasons for restarting.
However, the fact that Squad members made the mistake of firing off rockets or dropping bombs is not the fault of the server or the situation.
Especially since they made the mistake TWICE!!??....
It`s the player`s responsibility to fly and operate their aircraft in such a manner that they don`t kill themselves or their teammates.
If they make a mistake, I say tough. :p
The Squad C/O should have informed the CM of the circumstances of the losses, when asking for re-ups. Then the CM`s could have made an informed decision.
I killed myself in the first frame of BIG WEEK by running into a refueling shack when my view was blocked by another plane during refueling after a first mission.
I wasn`t allowed to re-up, neither did I expect to be able too. I think the same applies here. ;)

Your a good man bozan. :) I did not feel it was my place to explain, but once ice e-mailed me and explained what happened I left it at that.
Poony, I hear you. I would like to be able to do that, but where would the cut off be. Five, ten, 20 minutes for screw up's. TOD's for the most part have experienced players. We all blow it once and a while. I remember once a nasty crosswind took out most of my squad when rolling off a CV. We lost about 8 of 11 I think. We did not roll again. As much as many of us enjoy this if we pork it early on we are stuck.
Buzz is right, if a mistake is made call it a night and wait till next week.
-
or you can be like me, and do something on the runway, and not have it bite you in the bellybutton until 30 minutes later, and not know about it until the logs show you shot down your own squadmate with a single MG round at the start of the frame!

I sincerly apologize for this insident:o
Im the CO for the 332nd Viking Squad and have ben on almoust every US and euro TOD last year, so i should know that one life is one life!.
We had a trigger happy Guest among us that evening;), and he fired a rocket when all the Vikings were on the Runway:D, but I did not get that it was a second time that someone in my squad was reuping for a second time!.
I should have informed the CM of what happend, but i was so eeger and being the CO for the LW and command my squad at the same time , was making that i did not think that we were scrued for this event after the rocked insident:D!.
This wil never happen again, and i applogise again for this.

Sorry we didn't inform you on real time DD.
we figured that since the bases are not closed less then 1 min into the frame there would be no problem to respawn again.
this is not like crashing during take-off or in the middle of the frame re-arming. It's a game problem where you have a pile of 11 planes on the runway and they are loaded with ord they need to jettison. I do not recall this in WWII stories :)

Sorry to disapoint you, but recorder was not on yet...
Most of us couldn't type anyhow since we were busy tring not to soil our pants laughing... all you could hear were snores and wild clicks on RW of people trying to speak.. :D
I still laugh just remembering it.

Bozon;)

It should be TOD mandatory that the first thing the Vikings do when OTR is turn on their recorders!!!
That is your punishment!! :)
Yea daddog! I hear ya! When to draw the line? In this case it was on initial roll. The bomb drop was just too bad, no re-up there. But the rocket? Now there is another story. This is, without a doubt a CM call. They should of contacted the CMs, but in the heat of the accident and wanting to get airborne, ah, oh well.

Sorry:(

Just so long none of you lose sleep over it. :) It has brought to light an issue we need to deal with. For that I thank you. ;)
