To all you having KT266A motherboards
http://www.naggelgames.de/vcool/VCool.html
Absolutely awesome patch to relieve you from PCI related problems. I had no stability problems but this patch also solved crackling sound when using the built in AC97 audio.
From [H]ard OCP
[snip]
I use George Breese 0.19 patch and I know this alters some of his settings, but only after his installs..
here are my settings
priority rotation: off
master read caching: on
Delay transaction: on
CPU to PCI write buff: enabled
0 Bus timeout
Using idle loop and Kool bit
with smart idle and HALT enabled..
Overclocked XP 149fsb 1640 mhz
30cel idle
45cel full
ROCK SOLID...I do lots of gaming, encoding, and moving of gigabyte size files, while listen to music, or as today ...as I was using burnproof to burn a divx collection...multitasking heaven
[/snip]
I have to add that this patch also droped my system temperature down because of more efficient idling of the processor.
Went from 44C to 40 in 2 minutes!

I'm running a 1400 mhz XP on a Shuttle board with the KT266A chipset under Win 2k.
The information notes:
"This little utility will cool your Athlon/Duron processor on Via KT133 or KX133(A) (VT8363, VT8361, VT82C691/693A/694 or VT8371 +VT82C686x) chipsets during idle"
It isn't written for KT266A???
Also, could you explain what "PCI related problems" this proggy will remedy?
I'm running a Philips sound card with no problems.
Don't have heat problems.
Seems the only benefit for me might be lower idling temps.
I have to ask myself, is the potential for problems worth whatever benefit I might get?
(I'm a recovering compulsive tweaker)
What do you think MrSid2?

You have a point there Gunthr.. The fix was advertised wrongly on HardOCP page as being for KT266A.
However as I'm now using it, it did work also on KT266A board. My system temperature went down and the scratchy noise from AC97 is gone.. What can I say..

Hey, if it works, it works! I'm keeping the link on hand... thanks.

I just took a look at the bulletin boards there and it seems I joined the betatesting team on KT266A without realising it :)
So it can work, just haven't been tested thoroughly yet.
So far so good.
