Something outdoors.

Working to rebuild the National Park infrastructure?

You know... helping improve the trout habitat in the streams.  :D

That's where I'm headed, soon as I retire.

Does being in the Army for 12 years count toward my 4,000 hours? :)

Neil Young is a pretty good person on top of his musical talents. He works a bunch with mentally handicapped kids.

Yes,  I think his daughter was born with Down's syndrome. He walks the walk to the talk he talks.  Gotta respect that.

You are right about Neil Young and supporting the Disabled. I did my time as an Educator for the Mentally Handicapped in the early 80's. I was very involved in Special Olympics and he was one of the many celebrities who went the extra mile.

Someday I will relate my Special Olympic story about Muhammad Ali, Hank Aaron, and Dick Sargent.:D

LET'S ROLL
By Neil Young, with Booker T and the MGs

I know I said I love you,
I know you know it's true,
I got to put the phone down,
And do what we gotta do.

One's standing in the aisle way,
Two more at the door,
We got to get inside there,
Before they kill some more.

Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.

No time for indecision,
We got to make a move,
I hope that we're forgiven,
For what we gotta do.

How this all got started,
I'll never understand,
I hope someone can fly this thing,
Get us back to land.

Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.

No one has the answers,
But one thing is true,
You got to turn on evil,
When it's comin' after you.

You got to face it down,
And when it tries to hide,
You got to go in after it,
And never be denied.

Time is runnin' out, let's roll.

Let's roll for freedom,
Let's roll for love,
Goin' after Satan,
On the wings of a dove.

Let's roll for justice,
Let's roll for truth,
Let's not let our children,
Grow up fearful in their youth.

Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.

roadkill.  This time he knows what he knew the last time. Where the money is.  If the mood of the industry shifts.  He will be back writeing anti war songs.  The fact that this gives aid and comfort to the enemy wont bother him one bit.

Many Americans of good conscience protested the War in Viet Nam. They did not do it to aid the enemy, they did it to express their opinion. What could be more American?

Its not the same. Bush did not invent the attack on the WTC, like Johnson invented the Gulf of Tonkin attack.

Actually it was Kennedy that was sending over small regiments of Green Berets or some sort of "tactical advisors" going back to I believe 1962, and one of the reasons was the fear of Communism moving into Asia.  It just escalated from there..

No argument there Rip. But the escalation was all about the Tonkin resolution and Johnson manufacturing a scuffle between US shipss and North VN gunboats, that never happened.

If Neil Young's movie which IIRC was called "Heavy Horses" ever comes to your town.........avoid it like the plague! It was bad even back in the 70's while high on lord knows what. One scene I remember is this slow motion shot of horses running on a beach that seemed to last about 3 weeks. Horrible!

New Light On Gulf of Tonkin Incident (http://www.militaryhistory.com/Vietnam/articles/1997/08972_text.htm)

One of the better articles I have read on the subject.

You have to read it all and carefully.. there's a lot of twists and turns in THAT plot line.

Seemingly like everything else about VietNam, this incident is hallmarked by confusion... to this day.

I just thought before we put ol' neil up for sainthood we might consider the past.

The biggest lie the left wing ever told, was that the did not support the war in Vietnam. Of course they did. They just supported the north Vietnamese.  It was impossible, in those days, to not take comfort in what was being said. Either for one side or the other. An obvious example would be the use, by the NVA, of anti war news, from back in the USA. To try to dispirit and break American POW's.  Even the silence, of the silent majority, had a huge impact.  There are no bystanders in America.

Surely you are not suggesting that Amercans of conscience cannot disagree with their government and or its actions?

Saying you were against American involvement in VN was nowhere near saying you were all for NVN. Unless the South was an obvious loser without the huge involvement of American troops. In that case the moral imperitive to assist goes away because they become a puppet state.

Where antiwar protesters failed miserably is in separating the cause from the people. The soldiers who fought in VN should have been, and should always be, revered for their sacrifice and courage.

I love the Southern Man, Sweet Home Alabama battle.
Both songs are awsome in their own rights. But together they just keep generating revenues for the two performers and keeping us all thinking...
Im happy to live in a country(and live beside another) that can play both songs one after the other on the radio....
music with purpose has long legs...

Still looking. I'll find it (30years is a long time ). In the mean time here are some other things Neil wrote
 Artist Neil Young
Song Long Walk Home

If liberty was a little girl
Watching all the flags unfurl
Standing at the big parade
How would she like us now?

We balance the power
From hour to hour
Giant guns rage
It's such a long walk home
It's such a long walk home
It's such a long walk home

From Vietnam to old Beirut
If we are searching for the truth
Why do we feel that double-edged blade
Cutting through our hand

America, America
Where have we gone?
It's such a long walk home
It's such a long walk home
It's such a long walk home

With balance of power
From hour to hour
Giant guns rage
It's such a long walk home
It's such a long walk home
It's such a long walk home

 te. Long Walk Home.
