Title: Spitfire Sound Files
Post by: airmess on January 30, 2002, 05:40:23 PM
Hi all

Lately i've spent some time on working on engine sound-files, starting with the spitfire. I've tried to make each a engine sound-file for a Merlin and Griffon engine as i've heard them on a airshow in Duxford UK.

Well, it's nearly impossible to get a file sounding 100% like a engine like that. Exept maybe if you remove your soundcard and fit such a engine in your PC :-)

It was my first try and concerning those files and i've got quiet positive feedback ... so why not share those files with those who are interrested on as well.

For Spit V i used the Merlin one and for the Spit IV ther Griffon one. Sound good hearing them from the tower as well.

Try them and when you like them i'm glad to be able to provide something to that community. Will continue that job, if the need for such files is there and i survive your critics :-)

They seem way too quiet to me.  They also seem to be way to low pitched.  The Merlin and Griffon engines I have heard recordings of were screaming.  They had power.  Those sounds seem to be at an idle even when WEP is engaged.  The almost sound like low RPM radials to me.  Another problem is that it is difficult to hear the difference when WEP is engaged.  The pitch should increase markedly.

Please keep working on it though.  The Griffon sound will be needed when the Spit XIV is added.

Thanks.
