As everyone knows now I think.. The 38 is my baby.. and was wondering can I use differential throttle in AH with the 38??
That would be cool if I could.. Would aid in rolling the lightning and maybe help the 38 turn a but tighter as well.

yes you can suncom makeas a duel throttle tho you might check it out unless you already have 2 throttles.........
-
Or you can make your own :D

I've checked into this. I think that IF you decide to use a duel throttle you lose your rudder pedals if you use them. This is because you only have 4 axis availiable to map your device to.
TAC has used one before...you might want to ask him

tshred that throttle looks like a science project. :) Do all the buttons work?? Do the throttle levers work? How do you make??
Would like to tinker with something like that.. It would be a nice change of pace from workin on my bronco. :) And I do have two throttles but one is a wheel on my stick and the other is the throttle i use..

That would be cool to have, especially if there where 4 throttle controls... Lancs, B17s...
Do you have plans that show how to make that?
-
I'm definitely all for adding more axis to the control setup... and letting me map trim to a pair of 'em.
-
batdog, your reply must be in reference to the Suncom Throttle which I do believe you lose rudder control from using the duel throttle setup, but who cares you probably would have USB pedals plugged in seperately and it wouldn't matter :D Hopefully. If not then you are correct.
This is real easy to make.....
Take one CH Pro Throttle and cut in half with a rough cut tool box hand saw! Then I just super glued(r/c hobby stuff whick I believe is the best kind of super glue) the halfs to a couple of pieces of scrap plastic I had laying around the garage cut to the profile of the 'chopped' throttle handle. On the other side of the plastic peice, I added a 1/8 peice of plywood to the top 1/3 of the handle, with the bottom of it rounded and matched to the top of the lever which buts up against it. I do this so I can attach it to the lever the following way without worrying about it twisting on the lever. I countersunk the opposite side of the lever and put a big flush machine screw through it and the plastic peice and secured with a plastic locknut.
I would select a different angle next time as my throttle sits sideways for comfort and I push it at a 45 degree angle instead of fwd/back. You have to be careful when selecting the angle to cut, being careful not to cut through the attaching posts that the screws go through to keep the upper and lower halfs of the throttle together(you have 4 peices when you cut it in half). Mines a serial version but a USB Pro Throttle would work and I think I'll be able to just drop in the elecs from the USB when I get it because I'm betting the shell molds are the same.
It's plugged into my gameport on the PC and the other half is nothing more than the guts from a spare 3 axis joystick(my old CH Combat Stick) installed with the extra 2 axis pots mounted and sticking out the back for callibration. The 'other half(3 axis joystick)' is plugged into the Pro Throttle joystick port which sticks out the back of the base. It is callibrated in Windows as a generic 3 axis 4 botton joystick. I wired it per diagrams I found searching the web, lot's of them out there. The buttons do work on the base, but I don't use them, just a matter of windows recognizing everything and then mapping in AH.
The base is just made out of wood, 2 side panels, one center panel the same size as the side panels, back panel, and bottom panel of 1/4 ply. The top curvy lid is 1/8 plywood from my r/c hobby I put under hot water to get it to bend then I screwed it down and let it dry and take a set.
The levers are 1/8 X 1 1/4 steel scrap from work, with a nut welded on it where it rides/turns on a shaft made from all thread (I forget the size). The all thread in turn is just attached to the center panel with nuts and washers. On the shaft outboard of the levers I have springs and plastic lock nuts to tighten against the levers(springs on both sides of each lever actually) to give it adjustable tension. I didn't use the stock pots from my CH joysticks as they are of low quality and bought military spec pots from Newark Electronics(if you use USB gear this is unecessary as USB takes care of the 'jitters' that plague low quality pots). For the linkages I made some levers out of aluminum that attach to the pots with set screws and ball links and rod from my r/c hobby stuff to connect the levers to the pots. Then adjusted settings with an ohm meter to match the movement between the two levers, 0-100 ohms is the target range with both levers moving in unison.
It would be easy to make a 4 engine control, all that matters is that windows recognizes enough axis to allow you to map them in AH. I could make the base bigger and add two more levers and hook them up to the 2 extra pots I have sticking out the back, then it's just a matter of mapping them in AH. Right now my duel throttle works great with twin engines, but with 4 engines 1 half controls one engine while the other half controls the other 3, but I don't care, don't fly the 4 engine one's much :D
I suggest making them out of all USB Gear. I'm gonna buy a cheap USB stick next time I'm in the big city for the one half of the throttle, and eventually put the USB Pro Throttle in the other half and get rid of this spikey gameport stuff. I use the CH Fighterstick USB and USB Pro Pedals for the rest of my setup.
Email me if you need more details, or I can possibly dissasemble it enough to take more pics and send them.

"batdog, your reply must be in reference to the Suncom Throttle which I do believe you lose rudder control from using the duel throttle setup, but who cares you probably would have USB pedals plugged in seperately and it wouldn't matter Hopefully. If not then you are correct. "
No, I have my dual throttle and my CH Pro pedals working perfectly together.
I lost my dual throttle ability because of win2k (incompatible drivers). I use my throttle as a regular non-dual throttle now. If I use win98 it works fine, I get dual throttle. Im just wayy too lazy to reformat and reinstall all this crap to make a dual boot.
Im using an MS Sidewinder FF2 (USB), CH Pro Pedals (USB) and the Suncom Dual Throttle (Serial). The suncom throttle plugs to the keyboard PS2 port on the pc, the keyboard is plugged into the dual throttle and I have a "DEAD" joystick (TM TOP GUN) plugged to the throttle (otherwise the throttle doesnt work). And since I have the MS throttle in ID #1 and the TM Top Gun as ID #4 (last) , no game has problems with it, as they all use the MS stick and ignore the TM stick.

Okay...so IF I bought myself a set of USB rudders along w/my USB stick and say also bought a SUNCOM duel throttle I'd be set?
Hummm... I thought the main problem was that Windows only had 4 axis for use. This would be the X, and Y for Horizonal/vertical movement; the Z for rudder and R for throttle?
I'd need anthor for the additional throttle add on?
IF I could use a duel throttle AND keep my rudders I'd go like ape sh*& w/joy :)

Xbat, if I wanted to I could use my FF2's slider for trip tab and the twisty stick to trim aleirons. I dont know what you mean by windows not recognizing more axis... my win98 (not se) could.. and AH , with stick mapping, did.
I love my suncom throttle. Not only does the dual throttle help you, but it also has 2 8-pnt view hats.. add that to the FF2's own hat switch.. and you can get up to 24 views mappable.
On my FF2 hat switch I have: Trim elev Up, Trim elev Down, Front up, Rear up views mapped.
On the throttle I have : foward right, right, left, foward left, up, down, rear, rear left, rear right, ZOOM and 6-call mapped.
By combining the front/ rear up views in FF2 with the left and right views of the throttle, I can get right-up and left-up views.
The throttle does have an elev trim wheelie, but after excessive pain to my pinkie finger, I put it on the FF2 hat switch (much smoother and easier).
it has 5 2-position switch buttons and 1 button (1 position..*click*) you can use for flaps up/down, radio, combat trim on/off, dive flaps, gear, etc.
The throttle also allows you to program the j-stick attached to it. So if u using a serial jstick, you can map your buttons via the throttle. Also, the throttle itself has switchable set-ups. It can save up to 3 programmed stick sets.. in the middle of a fight you can just push a switch on the switch and use a whole new set of programmed buttons. When I play GVs I switch to my GV program set, when im in a CV manning the BB guns, I can switch to its own programmed button set.
And for $60 bucks.. its a steal :)

I just ordered a USB CH pro rudder pedal setup and a suncom throttle. I'm insane.

Batdog, your USB rudders will show in Windoz as it's own seperate controller. Sounds like Tac know's how to get you going.
I have 3 different controllers showing in my Windoz game controller window. To put it basically the # of axis' available for mapping in AH is only limited by the amount of controllers and their respective axis' showing up in Windoz.
Good luck and let us know how it works out batdog!

How effective is using a duel throttle with the P38?
-
I will let you gents in on the results :) I'd say TAC can tell you much more as he has used it before.
AkAk ... I have heard Bong used his throttle alot when fighting..not sure if true but I can see how it would allow one to make a tighter turn perhaps vie engine torque?
If nothing else its more "realistic",lol.
When I get them I'll prob have a set of CH rudder pedals for sale...I'll post it. They're the game port ones of course.

thanks, might have to check out the Suncom throttle but I'd really hate to give up my trusty Pro Throttle. Thing has been with me since my CH days and I rely on it not only in flight sims but the Pro Throttle with a trackball is the best first person shooter rig on the planet.

The only downside is that Suncom is a crappy company and has not released the win2k drivers *grumble*. Their website is down almost 300 days out of the year. :p
Using dual throttle helps a lot in the 38, you can turn much tighter by lowering throttle on 1 engine to half, when compressed you can actually ROLL by lowering 1 engine to 0 throttle, you can do some neat manouvers like a side-flop hammerhead by ruddering and lowering 1 engine's throttle while pushing the stick downward (to prevent the nose-up flip).. and when they blow your wingtip off you have UNREAL control over the plane by using the throttle's to compensate.. and 1 or 2 flaps and you can fly it like a stalling lanc until you land.
You ordered it batdog? You will LOVE it. Its an awesome stick. Just be sure to keep it clean or the spiking will give you a headache (having 1 engine go up and down in throttle can be a problem hehe). Also, if you dont have a serial joystick, go buy yourself the cheapest you can find, you DO need to have a serial joystick plugged to it or the throttle wont work at all.

Should arrive Monday. :)

TS I need your e mail address.. I tried to send you a email thru the UBB. But I don'tthink that works..
Hmmmm will the suncom throttle work with CH stuff?

An option you might consider is to select the engine using a voice command like MS GameVoice or Game Commander 2. Then your one throttle can control all or just the selected engine. This should work for our four engine buff fans as well. Just an easier option, but actually having a throttle for each engine would be more realistic.

damn, this must be one of the 300 days. Tried ordering one and the friggin' site is down. Maybe better luck through Pricewatch or eBay :(

Man I was happy with my CH HOTAS set up but now... I bought this for the emmersion factor of it but now you got my curiousity up.
I'll stick with this for awhile but that's sounds really cool.

I mapped the buttons on my throttle.. To select all engines to 1 and 2.. Was flying offline cause i can't fly online till wensday :(.
Anyway was messing around with it.. And man I could wrap the 38 around tight! Tho when I tried to roll at a speed of like 300mph or so it didn't help much but when your slow like 150mph
put one engine at 0 and man that 38 will roll over like no other.
and when turning the 38 at speeds like 150mph with full flaps
down the plane wants to roll over on its back.. So you have to
use your rudder to balance everything out. but man the 38 can turn on a dime like that! When TS posts the other pics of his throttle I'm gonna start right way on building my own. I have found that I can build better stuff that what you can buy at the store :)..

Hell I saw one of these over the weekend for like 40 bucks.
Thought about getting it but didna know what kinda nightmare it would be with my TM FLCS

"And man I could wrap the 38 around tight! Tho when I tried to roll at a speed of like 300mph or so it didn't help much but when your slow like 150mph put one engine at 0 and man that 38 will roll over like no other."
At speed below 200 mph , lowering throttle helps you roll much better because Torque hits you.
At 400mph or higher, lowering thrust on 1 engine will slowly roll your plane.. a lifesaver if you are in a nose down compressed dive with 1 of your wings pointing skyward and the other earthward... and you *really* dont want to slow down because that $#@$@# con will catch you. So instead of lawndarting, cutting back 1 engine rolls your wing slowly till its level with horizon..and you're still diving at 500mph.
Oh, and just try to do a barrel roll at 450mph cutting the throttle on the engine on who'se side you're rolling and apply full rudder to that side. It makes a neato high speed stall/stumble.. and also may save your bellybutton because the other guy will not expect you to stall at 450mph *G*.

Hehehehe will try that when I get my throttle.. I ordered a the suncom throttle fer 35 bucks alittle while ago. i will still make my own throttle tho will be a cool project to undertake! I dunno about all those buttons on the throttle tho.. I stll have buttons on my stick and throttle I don't use. Using this throttle will make flyign the 38 alot more fun! Dunno if will help me flying any.. I still have a long way to go before I get to where I was when i flew AW... and reading fighter combat while I can't play helps to.:)
