Title: AH on laptop?

hi.

i have a laptop in the mail

256MB SDRAM
intel celeron 1.06 MHZ
and i dunno the vid card.....its from 8mb to 32mb vid memory

so i was wondering if i could play AH on it? :confused: :confused:

Most laptops do not have a 3d card of any merit.  Some of the newer ones do though, and they would play AH.  But your run of the mill, sub $1500 laptop..nope

i got a HP customizable one......its not an omnibook. could i upgrade the computer to have a vid card? or does it have to be a certan kind?

That's the pain with laptops - you get what you get and apart from changing CD drives and batteries you're stuck with what's inside the case. If you selected a game enabled laptop to begin with - you're OK. If not - tough.

The only decent (well, half or maybe even quarter decent;)) graphics setup available right now is nVidia's GF2Go 32MB DDR which is a castrated version of GF2 MX. The only laptops sporting it are Dell Inspiron and Toshiba (don't know which one). There is apparently mobile Radeon out there - don't know anything about that. nVidia is by far superior where support issues are concerned. My PIII 1GHz Dell delivers ~2100 3DMarks which is nothing to be excited about but it is serviceable for all I've tried it with: AH, WB (both 2.77 and 3.0) and IL-2.

I'm not an expert but I think that most modern graphics setups have some 3D capabilities albeit software driven. You might still be flying but it won't look as good or the frame rate might force you to use low resolution.

I have a toshiba 2805-s402. its got a geforce go 16meg, 384megs ram, p3 850. It was highend a few months ago when I got it.

Anyhow, it runs AH really well at 10x7. I havn't played online, but watching films with it works great. It even runs fs2k2 at a decent clip, along with other games.

Its a great lan party comp (wich is the reason I got it). No more lugging around monitors and full towers for me. :)
